The magician met me at the door before leading me to the stage.
"Nice to meet you," he said. "Lena has told me so much about you."
I just smiled and nodded. I didn't know anything about him. Lena and I had only been dating for a couple of weeks.
As we climbed the stage, I spotted Lena. She looked up at me with those sultry eyes, but it was hard not to stare at her legs leading to the rest of her.
"She has lost her voice," he explained. "The blades go right thru the vocal chords, which kind of silence them this way. Just between us, it is probably better this way."
"Excuse me?" I stuttered.
"We were rehearsing when she suggested we remove her head and have you come pick her up. I'm the one who texted you using her phone. She wanted to spend the weekend with you this way."
"OK", I was at a loss for words. I knew Lena was a magician's assistant but I never imagined magic was real.
He continued, "While she can't talk, she can eat and do all sorts of things. Bring her back Monday morning and I'll restore her."
"What am I to do with her?", I asked.
"You'll figure it out," he winked as he tossed me her head to carry to the car.
