After felling the dragon Hazel decides to throw caution to the wind and take the beasts treasure for herself. Too bad no one told her the loot was cursed. (This story is in early access on my Patreon and will come to DA on Nov 27th.)
She walked down the ancient steps and towards the nearest pile of gold. “Hmm, but I will need a cart at the very least.” She looked around. “Too bad there aren’t any in here. Ahh, well, there isn’t any use just leaving some of this gold lying around.” She bent over. “Might as well take some so I can buy myself some horses to ferry my goods to my new future home.”
Hazel picked up a handful of gold coins. “Why, just look at it. The possibilities are endless.” She stuffed the gold into her pockets. “Buying some more fancy armor.” Her hands grabbed another handful. “Getting some servants. I just. . .” She laughed as she fell onto the pile with a wicked smile. “There is just so much I don’t even know what to do with it all.” She tried to make a gold angle. “I could just live in here if I wanted.”
She felt a strange pressure in her chest. “But I need to pace myself.” She sat up onto her knees. “I don’t want to attract attention to myself. I mean, I don’t want anyone to try to steal my gold. My jewels. It is mine, after all. They can’t have it.” Her hands wrapped around the gold greedily. “I will protect it with my life.”
