It has been a few days since Diane decided to reduce herself to a head. A head with a vagina hidden underneath, no neck.
I had hoped that she'd only last this long for a little less than a day, but it has been... Well... A few days.
Since then, I'd gotten the computer set up so she'd be able to do everything through the microphone. It's rather slow, but it's the only way she can be independent. l also did some simple programming to get it to work with her cellphone. We've also been sleeping together, as opposed to leaving her in a small basket. She told me to have a bit more confidence, and that I always remain in the same position once I fall asleep. To be honest, I like the feeling of her cheek on my chest as I doze off.
"Achoo!" She sneezed all over the table she was sitting on. "Sorry, I have no sleeve to sneeze into"
"Don't worry about such things. Have you been feeling like this for a while?"
She sniffed. "Yeah. I was hoping I'd be whole again before I got more cold symptoms."
"Maybe we should just see the merchant."
"We shouldn't! Look at me! I'm a sex toy. All I've got is a mouth and a vagina."
"C'mon, don't put it negatively like that. Lets give you a wash and bring you over."
"Bloody hell" She complained before sniffling again.
I filled the large sink with warm water, washed her hair, rinsed it, carefully cleansed her face, dried her hair. I'd gotten a bit better at it. I then braided her hair and folded it up, pinning it.
"You'll be fine, yeah?" I asked as I held her over the bag, properly sized for an SLR camera.
"Yeah, *sniff. I'll be alright" I helped her with her nose once more before sliding her in and zipping it.
As I walked the 6 or 7 blocks to the shop, I pondered a bit. I'd reduced Diane from companion, to pet. As much as I still loved her for who she was, it was getting harder for me to think of her as a person, especially when she was so small. She didn't need to eat much, nor did she even need air, though, if that were so, how could she sniff if she hadn't any lungs? Bloody mystery I say.
The bell above the door rung as I walked in. No one was at the counter.
"Hello? Are you here Steve?" It was an odd looking shop, it looked like it hadn't changed since it's first opening in the early 20th century. The whole building was made of brick and shelves and tables made of wood. Almost nothing on the shelves appeared to be imported, as such, there were a lot of vials, jars and bottles. Lots of weird do-dads that didn't look remotely magical, but I knew that wasn't the case.
"Steve?"
"Fookin 'ell Steve, there's a bloody punter out there!" A female voice shouted from... Somewhere. It was likely his wife.
"It's always like 'at with you innit?" Steve shouted. "Oh, hey man, how ya been?" He had a funny sort of Cockney accent.
"Alright, alright. The girlfriend though, not so well."
After looking about, making sure no other punters were around, I unzipped the bag and took Diane out, making sure to set her upright.
"Oh, 'ello there!" Steve said, crouching down slightly to her eye level.
"Hi" Diane said after I helped her with her nose.
"Yeah, she's god a cold of some sort, and this shape of hers is lasting way too long"
"Wow, you went the whole nine yards with 'at. Just a head! Don't see 'at too much. How'd you manage?"
"Well," *sniff "I did the peanut butter trick. I took all six pills with peanut butter."
"That's a bit risky, did you just take the peanut butter with one? Or all six times?"
"All six times."
"Fucking 'ell"
"What? That's bad?" I asked.
"Well," He began. "If you did it once, like with the leg types, you'd 'ave no legs for a day or so. You've done it 6 times, so taking into account some exponent nonsense, this could go on for a month!"
"Uh, shit."
*Sniff. It wasn't because of mucus. Diane was crying a bit.
"Jesus, we'll make it through the month somehow" I held her to my chest, a few tears went through my shirt.
"Aye, no need to get all teary like. I can 'elp you nick two birds with one stone!"
He went into some back room and came out with a bin full of oddly coloured water.
"Now. This is a nice little remedy, detoxifies you all the way through."
"But there's other stuff that does the same thing" I mentioned.
"Ah! Not quite like this. Since Diane is so small, the detox has a MUCH greater effect on 'er. Stick 'er in 'ere for a 4 hours or so two days in a row, and you'll fix everything!"
"So, what happens to me?" Diane asked.
"Well, in the one or two times when I did it with me wife, she'd gotten rid of a flu completely in two days! No symptoms! It should also work for the shape changing stuff I sold you. The pills work on some kind of similar principle."
"Does she have to be a head for this to work?"
"Well, when we did it me wife hadn't any legs or chest for 'at matter. So, no lungs. 'ad to do it with the bathtub though, uses a lot of water. This would be great for you!" He said, slapping the bin, sloshing some water about. "Don't need much water, and you can keep her near no matter where in the house you are!"
"So, there's nothing I have to worry about." Diane asked without inflection.
"Nah, you might get a little tired though. Immune system and the like. You'll probably sleep through most of it."
"Sounds a bit sci-fi, being in a tube like that. Whatever, I'll take it."
He rung us up. We got a reasonably sized vial full of orange powder, meant to be mixed in water.
"Oh! By the way, if you like doing the head-fanny thing you can just get these, makes things simpler." He pulled out a familiar-looking pill bottle labelled "body"
"Hm, might as well. Might want to give it a go myself" I said.
He added in the new pills and gave us our bag. I then helped Diane with her nose and packed her up and headed back to the apartment.
"So, are you okay with this?" I asked Diane as I poured water into a cleaned out fishbowl, the liquid quickly becoming orange coloured as I poured it over the powder.
"Well, it's really the best thing at the moment. Let's do it." *sniff.
"You know, if you have no lungs, how is it that you're sniffling?"
"I'm just kinda trying to push the mucus out. It's really irritating having it present in your nose."
"Whatever you say love. Blink or make some weird facial expressions if you want me to take you out."
She did her equivalent of a nod, moving her eyes down, then doing a slow blink. I picked her up and set her on the bottom of the bowl, her hair splaying outwards, floating on the surface of the water. Her eyes became drowsy, then they closed slowly. She must have fallen asleep already.
I moved the bowl over to my computer, and set it under my desk lamp. They way the light pierced the opaque orange liquid was very dreamlike, and the expression on Diane's face was mesmerizing. Her eyes were closed, her brows completely relaxed, and her lips were open just slightly. It looked like a scene from a bleak sci-fi film.
She looked so peaceful, but at this point, she really was an object. No different from an art installation on my desk.
Four hours passed faster than I expected. I tried to work, but it was impossible. I was thinking way too much.
I brought the bowl over to the kitchen sink, and carefully pulled Diane out.
"Ohhh..." she exhaled.
"Are you alright?"
"I... I feel quite a bit clearer." She shifted her jaw around. "But still a little achy"
"Well, how about we have something to eat?"
I set her on the counter after I brushed her hair back, which flowed into the unused sink. As I made broccoli, avocado and kale, we didn't feel like having anything too heavy. Or at least I did, everything is heavy to Diane at the moment.
Only a few mouthfuls later, she was done; she drank as much water as she could, but could only handle half of a glass.
"I'm rather tired." She told me.
"But you just slept for four hours."
"I know, maybe the immune stuff keeps cycling. May you bring me to bed?"
"Of course."
I tired her hair up and laid her on the pillow, bringing the covers up to her nose.
It wasn't that late yet, so I went back to my computer to finish some work. However, I kept looking over to Diane. The covers were flat where the rest of her should have been, and the face that she made had me sensing that she wasn't very hopeful about her situation. I wasn't either.
The next morning, I woke next to Diane, who hadn't moved at all from the place I left her, and still had no body. I caressed her cheek.
"Mmmmm, morning"
"How are you feeling?"
"A little better. Sigh."
"No body still?"
"Yeah, seems that way."
"Are you hungry?"
"No, not at the moment."
Diane indicated that she wanted to try sleeping in the detox again. I simply left her in the tank for an uneventful 4 hours.
"So, how do you feel?" I took her out, drying her off. She made some motions with her nose.
"Quite a bit better, I think. My sinuses seem to be clearer."
"How about… Your body? Do you feel it coming back at all?"
She let out a sigh. "No, I don't think so."
"Alright. Should we head to the shop?"
"I guess so." I got the impression that Diane was getting very worried.
"Here, I'll make you more comfortable this time."
I found a sturdy backpack that we last used for camping. I took everything out of it, and layered the bottom on it with two scrunched up towels. I set Diane down in it, and pushed some of the towel fabric to the sides so she'd have a little bowl shaped indentation to rest in.
"This is actually very nice," She told me, starting to smile a bit. "Thanks"
"Shall put another towel on top?"
"Why not? I don't exactly breathe."
With that we headed to the shop.
"Steve? Steve are you here?" I knew that he was, the shop was never open otherwise.
"'Ere! I'm 'ere mate." He almost tripped coming out of the back room, who knew?
I took Diane out of the bag, setting her on the counter on top of one of the towels, then readjusting her pony tail.
"I reckon you're here because she hasn't changed back like?"
"Yeah."
"Shit."
He went into the back room, made some noises and came back out with a reasonably large book. He set it down on the counter and started going through a few pages. He finally settled on one and read for a moment.
"So, Diane. Have you any allergies?"
"Um, no."
"Are you sure? At any point in your life?"
She pondered for a moment.
"I… I used to be a little allergic to peanuts…"
"Ah, shit."
"What is it?" I asked.
Steve slumped back in a chair.
"The notes I have from the company said that… Interactions with allergens can cause unpredictable results… I'm sorry, but this might last a long time."
Diane started to sniffle and cry.
"I'll contact the company. I'll see if there's anything that they can do."
Diane started to wail. I felt some pressure building in my tear ducts.
I went into the back room and crouched on the sofa, bringing my knees to my chest, holding Diane close.
"Diane.."
She just cried. I let her at it.
After some time, she calmed now a little bit.
"Jesus, what the fuck am I going to do?" I wiped her tears away. "I can't fucking type or move. I can't show up to work like this. Fuck, why did I do something so stupid."
"We didn't know this could happen, Diane."
"Gahhh," She sobbed. "I'm just a fucking head. I don't even have a fucking neck! I feel like an goddamn object."
"You know that isn't true."
Just then, Steve walked in.
"I just gave them a ring, they'll have a rep over later today. He'll head over to your apartment."
"Thanks Steve."
"It's the best I can do mate."
Once Diane had dehydrated herself, I put her back in the pack and we headed over to our place. Diane predictably didn't want to do anything, feeling completely deflated, she wanted me to set her down on her side on the bed in the other room.
I tried to do some work myself, but I simply couldn't. The reality of the situation started to hit me, I would now have to take care of Diane for a very long time. I was prepared for that, since I love her more than anyone on Earth. Would I have to quit my job? What about Diane? I suppose she might be able to work from home in some capacity, but what could she say to her boss? Actually, I'm good friends with the human resources guy, who also got us into these wired pill things. Only, that just reduced one of the smaller problems. Diane can't even act on her own.
There was soon a knock at the door.
"Hello. I'm with Sapien Dynamics. I heard you've had a major issue with one of our products. May I come in?" The man was somewhat tall, wearing a slim fitting black suit. His posture was unnaturally perfect.
I asked Diane if she'd like to come to the coffee table, and thankfully she'd gathered herself as much as she could. She also didn't care if her vagina was visible. I kept her privates out of the rep's view as much as I could. I set her down on the coffee table.
"Are these the bottles that the product came in?"
"Yes."
He inspected them, rolling them around and checking every dot of ink on the packages.
"It appears that there is no adequate warning regarding peanut butter and its interaction as an allergen. We had tested the product repeatedly, and found that there was no interaction."
He looked over to the fishbowl, still full of the orange liquid.
"It would seem that you have used our detox formula. If you used it even once, then there is no way you could be like this, unless we made a massive error."
Diane sighed.
"As a result of this, we will do everything in our power to help you. There is actually a small device that we're currently prototyping, but we can make an exception and send it to you free of charge. It should enable you to be more independent for the duration of your reduction."
The rep opened his suitcase and took out a card.
"This is mostly symbolic, but you now have unlimited free access to our products and anything we make in the future. We will be sending you the prototype, if there is anything you may need, give us a call. My number is on that card."
With that, he left.
"He just doesn't want us to sue." Diane said flatly.
"You're probably right." I brought Diane to the kitchen counter, after which I paused for a moment. "Wait, do you want to sue?"
"I… I don't know. Maybe?" She sighed. "By the sounds of things, no amount of money in the world will get me my body back."
"It's okay, we can think about it."
I made some soup, which I fed Diane. As expected, she couldn't handle more than a few sips. I set her down at the TV as I phoned my friend, Ralph, in HR. He was sympathetic, and understood our situation, especially as him and his wife use the pills themselves. He cooked up an excuse to put Diane on temporary leave, and allowed me to spend some time alone with Diane until we figured something out.
A week passed. Diane hadn't been speaking much, not doing anything other than watch TV, and sometimes had be turn pages for he so she could read. She clearly depressed, and spent long periods on her side, staring out the window.
Then, the package arrived carrying the prototype device.
"What is it?" Diane asked from the other room.
"Special delivery, it seems."
"Let me see."
I brought her over to the coffee table and set down in front of it. We opened the toaster sized box and were initially confused by what was inside.
"What… Is that?" Diane asked.
"I think… I think it might be walker."
It was a strange looking spider thing. There were several legs on each side, and on top was a… Dialator?
"I'm calling that guy."
I punched the number into our phone, he answered instantly and I put the thing on speakerphone.
"Hello. It seems that the prototype arrived."
"Yeah… Is it what we think it is?"
"Yes indeed, it's a walker."
"Hold on," Diane interjected. "Is that think in the middle supposed to go into my vagina?"
"That would be correct." He assured. "But in the few tests that we've done, it's not exactly built to pleasure. The control rod is malleable, and will conform to you, it shouldn't be too large to cause pain or unintended pleasure, but not so small that you're unstable."
"So, does it let me… Walk?"
"Try and see. I doubt that you'll be disappointed." He hung up. Ass.
"So, you want to try it?"
"I don't think I have any other choice. Put me on it."
I applied the conductive lubricant to the rod before slowly slipping Diane onto the device.
"Ah!!" She yelped.
"Are you okay?"
"I, I'm fine. I'm just not used to it, I mean, the shape, the coldness."
I slipped her down the last inch, after which-
"Ah!" Diane yelped as the legs on the machine bent and extended seemingly uncontrollably.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm, it's…" The right-front most leg moved a bit, extending in and out slowly. Then the left, the back legs, the middle legs.
"I think…" The walker moved a few careful steps, then a few more.
"I can move! I can move I can move I can move I can move!!"
She walked in a few circles. At first she was bouncy, going along with the device, but it started to get more controlled. Soon, Diane was moving the walker at an even pace, and keeping the platform level so that she didn't go up and down. She started to cry.
"I can move again!"
I was happy too.
Before I knew it, Diane was able to type on the computer with some success. We also got some ramps set up around the apartment so she could get around easily. It was going to be a while until the rest of her body grew back, but at least now, the wait would be bearable.
