Having been malleable for all her life, incidents like this were prone to happen, but that didn’t make them any less surprising. Hell, even just getting flattened was always surprising, usually she never got a choice on whether she was to lose her third dimension. More often than not it was caused by an accident.
Whether that be by being squished by someone closing a door, or by precariously placed boxes. All in all, Gia had learned to be extra careful. Though, in doing so, it made events like this even more embarrassing. Having become a near expert at keeping her body in one shape, she figured it was about time to really test her body.
She did so in one of her town’s local factories. It was quite dangerous, especially for someone like her, but she reasoned that as long as she was careful nothing would happen. She was right, she never caused herself to lose a dimension, but that didn’t mean that the factory’s machinery followed the same rules.
The day was all going fine for Gia, it was pretty routine. Her job had her go all throughout the factory, so ending up by the printing presses was normal for her. Standing next to the ink vats, she was inspecting them, making sure they were adequately filled and not clogged up. As she was going over a checklist regarding them, the vat’s automatic filler was activated.
Barely having any time to react, she was surprised when the bucket of ink knocked her into the vat. Getting her bearings back together she tried to find a way to exit the vat, to which she found none. At least, not a normal one. The only way out was through the chute leading into the press.
With no better option, and with the chute’s suction working, she was sucked down into it. As she did so, she felt as her body suddenly flattened itself and seemingly started to melt. Her body and the ink became one. Submerged in darkness, she had no way to see what was happening, but she could feel it.
She felt as her liquidy body was soon imprinted onto a long sheet of paper, though weirdly, she still felt like a person. It soon became apparent to her as she was brought out of the press and into another machine. Looking up at the mirror above, Gia caught a quick glimpse of herself. Imprinted on the long roll of paper was herself, nothing but ink and with the appearance of having simply been flattened.
With her past experiences, she knew it was useless to try and do anything in this state, she just had to wait for someone to find her. The machine proceeded to cut the long roll into various pieces of paper, Gia though remained in one piece. A piece that was quickly made into the inner part of a newspaper.
A newspaper that was chucked into another pile of newspapers. A pile being checked over by one of her coworkers before it was given the clear to be sent out. Once again with no way to see what was happening, all Gia could do was feel as she loaded onto the news truck in her paper cocoon. All she hoped now was that someone would find her, but with how often people looked at newspapers anymore she knew that she was going to be stuck like this for a while.
