You hear "build" in association with a magician, there's an obvious thing they could be building. I wanted to write a story about a magician building an assistant out of parts of several people. After sitting on the idea for two or three days, I couldn't find a story pretense that satisfied me, so I turned to the group. The winning suggestion was the build, i.e. proportions of a person. So, Phian played with that.
