The butler was very worried about his mistress, Alisa. A week prior, his mistress had been acting quite normally, besides deciding to buy some rather raunchy merchandise of her magical girl comrades. But ever since Chiyoko and Hana had been reported missing, she’d locked herself in her room, not even coming out for food and instead asking for her staff to leave it at the door, along with strict instructions she be left alone except to deliver the strange packages she’d been receiving. While she wasn’t quite a social butterfly, she was far from a shut in, so this behavior was very strange indeed.
This was why, after some quiet discussion with the other butler and the family maid, they’d decided that it was fine to disobey their mistress just this once. Jonathan had volunteered, and now he was at the door. It went against most of what he’d learned as a butler to do this, but there was always an exception when the Mistress’ orders went against her own health - he was responsible for her ever since her parents died and he would not allow her to spiral downwards like this.
“Mistress Alisa,” he called, knocking on the door. Best be polite about it at least. “I do apologize for my rudeness, but we must speak. Marisa, Eugene and I are all quite worried about you, nevermind what concerns your friends must have…” As he spoke, he slid his master key into the lock and opened the door gently.
The room was nearly pitch black as Jonathan entered, but for the dim light of a computer screen outlining his boss at the other end. She didn’t notice his entrance, possibly due to the headphones she was wearing blasting music so loudly that he could hear it from where he stood through the headphones. It was a bubblegum-pop type, peppy number, at least from what he could glean.
He was… not enthused. “Mistress! How long has this been going on? You’ll go blind and deaf at this rate!” he said sternly. It was worse than he’d thought. Now was not the time for the friendly doddering butler, but the stern paternal figure. He stomped over to the light switch and flipped it on.
As the room burst into light, he was quite shocked. He’d been in this room thousands of times, but even in her bratty, “everything shall be mine” phase, Alisa’s room had never been quite so… stuffed. It was filled to bursting with magical girl promotional items. From action figures to posters to body pillows it was covered wall to wall in memorabilia and merchandise. Alisa herself looked… mostly normal, except for the fact she was clutching at a pair of her earlier purchases, the body pillow of her teammate Chiyoko and life-sized model of her teammate Hana, rather too closely to be for mere examination. With the lights on he could now see what had been on the screen - one of the licensed animated adaptations of the adventures of her own magical girl team, and a stack of DVD cases of other such shows told that she’d been at this for a while.
This, unlike his words, had been what had woken his mistress up. She suddenly hissed like a cat, as if the light had burnt her, and stumbled out of her bean-bag chair. “Gah! Too much light! Too much!” she groaned, clutching at her merchandise as if her life depended on it.
“Mistress, we have to talk. You can’t shut yourself in like this. I understand you’re worried about your friends, but...” Jonathan said carefully, inching closer. You had to be careful with Alisa - she was, in the end, a hormonal teenager with a lot of magical power.
“I’m not a shut in!” Alisa snapped, “I’ve just not wanted to go outside when I can stay in with my friends and watch anime!”
“Your friends?” Jonathan questioned.
“Yeah! Chiyoko and Hana, you know them.” She presented the bodypillow and the model as evidence. “Along with all the others here.” She nodded at her various memorabilia. “How can I be a shut in when I have so many friends?”
Jonathan took a deep breath. It was worse than he’d thought. He’d probably have to call in a specialist or something, since the girl might need actual psychological help. “I… I see…” Jonathan said slowly, “Well… you also have friends outside this room, and they are very worried about you…” he said, approaching slowly and crouching down to her level.
“Who needs them?” Alisa said, turning her nose up at him, “I have all the friends I need here. Magical girls are the only friends I want. Because magical girls are objectively the coolest and what the hell do you think you’re doing!?”
Jonathan had gently tried to pull the model and body pillow away from Alisa. This, it turned out, was a mistake. “You need help, mistress-”
“Liar! You want to steal my friends!” Alisa shouted, lunging at him and gripping his collar, “You want to take all the merch I’ve worked so hard to collect! You’re not a real fan if you have to do that so you can’t have them!” Her eyes had begun to glow a dangerous purple, distinct from the usual gold hues of her magic. This was not her normal self at all, something Jonathan had realized far too late as her magic pumped into him.
His body rapidly shifted and changed in hue, from his natural pale white skin to a bright purple. His suit had changed just as fast, seeming to merge into his skin as a neon pink color. He tried to speak but his vocal cords had ceased to exist, along with the rest of his face as it smoothed out into the fabric. Now a single sheet of purple and pink material, the former butler started to fold in the air - a corner here, down the middle there, a bit of magical needlework to keep it all together… it felt strange, but he was having trouble worrying about it. As a normal human, his resistance to magic was essentially nil. Even magical girls only had about enough to take a few hits, but a normal human would usually crumple so hard there wasn’t anything recognizable about them afterwards. That was the case with Jonathan, or rather, Cute Top, as it fluttered to the floor. Where there had been an aged, respectable butler, was now a cute purple top with adorable pink ruffles all over it, in the style of the archetypical magical girl garments. Being an enchanted inanimate object was a rough transition for any inanimate object, and the clothing’s mind, such as it was, was going a bit slowly as Alisa picked it up.
“What did I do…?” Alisa said in shock as she examined the former butler. Cute Top didn’t know either, not that it knew much besides the fact it wanted to be worn by Owner quite a lot. “It’s… it’s so cute!” Alisa said, hugging the top to herself. “This is really different magic! I… I think I can make other things. A lot of other things. Ha… hehehehehe…. Hehehehe!” Alisa tossed her other clothes to the ground, and quickly slipped the new top on, reveling in the feeling of knowing this had once been a merch thief and was now just some cute magical girl style clothes.
After perhaps a bit too much of such revelry, she calmed herself, and picked up her phone. She shot off a text to the two members of the team that weren’t missing, Aika and Momiji, asking them to come over to her house for tea - a pretty normal text from her, so they wouldn’t suspect her plans. She had two of five of the team collected, so it would only be right for a Magical Fangirl like her to get more… in the meantime, she had some nosey thieves to deal with, and she needed to refresh her wardrobe anyway - the problems solved each other!
----------------------------------------------
“I’m really glad Alisa’s feeling a bit better…” Aika said conversationally as they approached the girl’s mansion. “When was the last time she actually like, talked to us?”
Momiji shrugged. “Last week, I suppose. I suspect she was particularly upset by Chiyoko and Hana’s disappearance.
The mansion was pretty damn big - it could have fit several copies of Alisa and Momiji’s apartments in it, and neither lived in particularly small homes. Aika was always enthralled by the sheer scope, so she was content to keep walking without noticing anything strange until they were at the large double doors and Momiji grabbed her shoulder. “What is it? We’re gonna be late and I just can’t let any of her maid’s sweets go to waste…”
“You must have noticed.” Momiji said quietly, “Something is missing here. What always happens when we come and visit?”
Aika frowned. “...We get cupcakes and tea?”
Momiji sighed in a long-suffering way. “We are always greeted at the gate. This time, we are a couple steps from the door, and I have yet to hear a sound.”
“Maybe it was on short notice and they’re all busy.” Aika suggested with a shrug. “Nothing bad could have happened here without Aika letting it in. She’s a bit spoiled, not dumb.” She pulled away from Momiji’s hand, and opened the door. Nothing jumped out at them, no sudden magical traps, nothing. “See,” Aika said, “You’re just paranoid.”
Momiji didn’t reply, instead keeping a careful watch as they entered the manor. Despite Aika’s confidence, there was definitely something deeply wrong. The place was deathly quiet, without the usual sounds of staff moving to and fro or the greeting of the butler, or anything else that would usually show that the place was occupied.
The pair reached the dining room, and found that it was empty. The kitchen behind it was empty. Everything was empty. “Ok, maybe something is wrong… we should find Alisa…” she said. It wasn’t her or Momiji’s birthday, she was pretty sure, so a surprise party was pretty low odds…
“We should.” Momiji agreed. “I propose that we search slowly and thoroughly, going through each room in its turn-”
“I’ll just go check out her room, you search down here.” Aika said, and bolted off. Momiji followed, saying how stupid the idea was, but both girls trailed off as they returned to the dining room.
Alisa was waiting for them there. Or at least, her face looked like Alisa’s. Her golden-blonde hair was done up in two massive twintails instead of her usual ringlets, and she was wearing a hodgepodge of different magical girl uniforms. There was something… off, in her expression as well, a slightly psychotic glint in her eye that wasn’t usually there. “Hello, dear friends~!” she trilled, “I’m glad you could make it! Aren’t you glad to see me?”
“Yes!” Aika said cheerfully, “I’m glad you’re ok, I was getting a bit worried since there was nobody around and I was wondering if a bad guy had got you somehow-”
“That was a rhetorical question, Aika.” Momiji pointed out.
“Oh.”
“Well, there’s nobody around because they were all THIEVES trying to STEAL MY HARD EARNED MERCHANDISE.” Alisa shouted, “But I put them in their place. They’re much better the way are now. I always told Hilda she needed to support me now, and now she’s doing it in the best way she can~” She pointedly cupped her chest.
Aika blinked. “What.”
“She turned her maid into a bra, Aika. Presumably the outfit is composed of her staff. I think she turned evil.”
“Oh, that’s bad.”
“Yes it is.”
“No it’s not!” Alisa shouted. “They totally deserved it! Actually they didn’t, this is better than they’re worth, but my powers have a specific tilt to them and I couldn’t really do to them what I thought they really deserved, but at least they’re useful this way.”
The pair stared at her for a while. She stared back. Aika’s mind finally caught up with events, and she struck a heroic pose. “Alisa, you’ve gone too far! I don’t know what did this to you, but we’ll fix it even if we have to use blunt force therapy!”
“Hahaha! I’d like to see you try it~!” She taunted in return. As Aika raised her gem to transform, Alisa released the spell she’d been preparing as they verbally sparred. Unfortunately for Aika, once the sequence had started it could not be interrupted, and as a former magical girl, Alisa had a better understanding of how to screw with it than most villains.
The trick, it turned out, was not to try to stop it. The trick wasn’t even to make it turn them evil instead. The trick was to let them transform, and just to focus what came out of it. Alisa was fine letting Aika’s magical gear come into being, but she changed what was used to make it. Instead of drawing ambient magic, the girl’s regalia would now instead draw from her internal storage for its creation, with some… appropriate, effects.
As Aika's transformation began, she felt the usual rush of power and strength that accompanied it. Her perspective was in slow motion, which meant she could feel her transformation quite clearly even as it was nearly instant to the outside world. She felt how her clothes faded away, soon to be replaced. She felt her accessories come into being, her weapon (a spear) appear in her hand, her gem merge with her chest, her head pulling in- wait what?
Something was wrong. She felt her regalia forming, but instead of pulling magic from thin air, it was pulling magic from her, and the rest of her along with it. Her skin was already dyed blue as she felt… hollow, like there was nothing inside her body but air. Her head seemed to plunge downwards through the hollow that her chest had become, while her arms pulled inwards like collapsing telescopes. There was a feeling of intense vertigo as her upper and bottom halves just… disconnected, as if bisected. But she wasn’t feeling pain. Instead she was feeling… pleasure? She was rapidly transforming but she couldn’t even begin to think it was bad, because it felt so dang good.
Her legs hollowed and softened, losing their ability to support her weight as they turned from flesh and blood into stockings. Her hips flared out into a large skirt, while her feet hardened into classy shoes. If she could look at herself, she would see a pale blue top with lacy ruffles all around it, and a wide skirt with dark blue stockings and black shoes. She felt pinpricks across her whole surface as she was studded with gemstones, and a strange hollowness as more of her was emptied to make place for it’s eventual occupant.
Unlike normal humans, she did keep a mind capable of complex thought. Unfortunately for her, that mind was rapidly overwhelmed by the feeling of emptiness and the desire to be worn. She was a magical regalia, what was her purpose if she wasn’t worn? Wait, that wasn’t right. Aika tried to push against the desire, but it was an uphill battle and the hollowness of any thoughts that weren’t about being worn made it more and more attractive.
From the outside, where once Aika had stood, was now a faceless mannequin wearing her regalia with a wig that looked like her hair. All her humanity and identity had been sucked out of her body with the magic, and transferred into her clothes which looked livelier than ever. Alisa squealed with delight. “Ooooh, it’s perfect!” she said, making a pulling motion with her hand. The clothes, and the mannequin, flew over to her. “A perfect replica of Magical Girl Stellar Aika’s famous outfit! And in my size! Next cosplay convention, I’m going to make everyone soooo jealous~” she said to herself.
Aika’s mind froze at that. She would be worn. She’d be admired. She wanted that so much… so much… if she wanted that… she couldn’t have been human, right…?
Alisa had already apparently forgotten what the clothes had once been. They weren’t a person. They were a costume, and that was all. A perfect, slightly magical replica of a famous magical girl’s clothes.
Meanwhile, Momiji had gone through her own transformation unopposed, and was in magical girl attire ready for a fight. She looked at the set of clothes that had been her friend, then at Alisa. Then she drew her knives. “...That is… irritating, I must say.”
“You’re just jealous.” Alisa sing-songed back at her. “But as a Magical Fangirl, I can’t just not have merch of my favorite characters! I’d never be able to show my face at a convention again!”
“You’ve only been to one before.”
“An experience I plan to repeat!” Alisa shot back. The magical girl didn’t waste any more words; clearly, the only way her friend would come to her senses would be to beat them back into her. So she leapt over the table to charge at her. Alisa backstepped and ducked under the blow, taking the spear out of the mannequin’s hands and using it to fend off the attack. “I won’t make it that easy~”
The fight went on like this, with Alisa showing far more agility than she used to have in her evasion of Momiji’s attacks. She was being pushed back though, step by step. “You know… I got a lot of new powers…” she said between strikes. “They’re all merch themed, which is just great… but the problem with them is getting them to pose right.” Momiji didn’t respond, focusing instead on the fight. “Like with the models, it’s super easy, I can just move them a bit. It’s stuff like posters and prints that you’ve only got one try, and it’s really hard with the action poses especially to get it right.”
She said this quite casually, but it was that that got Momiji to worry. Unfortunately, she was mid-lunge, and couldn’t redirect herself. This time, instead of dodging, Alisa brought something in front of herself. A human-sized sheet of plastic, with which Momiji promptly collided… and then vanished.
Alisa giggled madly as she stumbled back from the impact. Momiji was gone, which meant… she spread the sheet of plastic over the table, and there she was. Momiji, rendered in a pretty nice anime style at a 1:1 scale, was in a cool action pose, a confident look on her face as she lunged at the viewer with knives out.
Momiji, for her part, was trying quite desperately to move - but she couldn’t. She had been completely flattened and merged with the poster, looking at Alisa gleefully examining her. She couldn’t even look around, just straight forward. “Ooooh, a perfect condition Momiji poster~” Alisa sing-songed, “This will go great on my wall! I bet you’ll like being on my wall, won’t you?”
Why yes, she would love to be - wait, no - Momiji tried to struggle against the mental change coming over her, to keep trying to fight. She was… a magical girl. Not a poster of one, she was one. She was a real girl, who had three dimensions and not two and…
Alisa rolled her up, and the world went pitch black, and her resistance melted away. No, no, open her up! Unroll her! She was a good poster, she had to be seen and admired! Her mental resistance rapidly crumbled, along with her usual composed self, until just like all the other merch, all she wanted to do was fulfill her purpose: Namely, to be admired and loved by Owner…
----------------------------------------------
A few minutes later, the new Magical Fangirl was humming cheerfully to herself as she carefully stuck her new poster to the wall, and put the mannequin wearing her new costume in a nice spot on the corner where the cosplay could be displayed. They were in a prized place next to her bed, with her Chiyoko body pillow on the bed itself and the Hana life-sized model on the other side. As she set them all up, she did feel that something was missing. She had four fifths of her favorite team, but she was missing one of them. She didn’t have any Alisa merch, and she was like, her second favorite on the team (Chiyoko was her first fave, that’s why she had a pillow of her)!
As she was pondering this conundrum, and how she had to order some Alisa merch, there was a sound at the door. She whirled around, ready to face another thief.
“Ooooh, you’ve turned out better than I hoped!” The girl she was faced with, who was a bit overly peppy and wearing a similar mishmash of magical girl outfits to herself, said. “I looove the outfit, you’ve got really good magical girl replica style. Did they used to be people? I bet they were, people make the best clothes since they have so much personality to them.”
“Who the heck are you?” the Magical Fangirl said, “How did you get in my house?”
“Oh, don’t you recognize me? I sold you your pillow and the life-sized model,” she twirled a bit in place, “Call me the Magical Fangirl!”
“But that’s me! Not you! You’re stealing my title!”
“I gave it to you, actually! I put a spell on the pillow and the model, so you turned into another Magical Fangirl! I’m going to call you Magical Fangirl B, ok?” said Magical Fangirl A to the girl who’d once been Alisa.
“Why should I let you call me anything?” Magical Fangirl B said, “Why are you here? And again, how’d you get in my house?”
“The door’s open.” M.F.A. said with a shrug. “Honestly? I’m here to see your progress, but I didn’t expect you to have changed completely already! You were showing signs when you left the convention already, but this is even faster than I hoped. You even went out of your way to transform your friends! Excellent taste, incidentally, Aika definitely has the best cosplay uniform of the bunch.”
“I know right? And I thought that Momiji would make the best poster since she has this kind of cool aesthetic to her, right? Right?” Magical Fangirl B gushed.
“Riiiight!” Magical Fangirl A agreed, nodding enthusiastically. “I’m glad to have someone who gets it! Your collection is almost as impressive as mine, but it needs a complete set… we need an Alisa, right?”
“Riiiiight…” Magical Fangirl B said, slowly… they did… and there was a girl right in front of her who had just talked about how she’d made some of her collection and admired it… was she planning to take it back? The same paranoia that had completed her initial transformation was coming back in force. “I do need an Alisa. Thanks for volunteering~”
Magical Fangirl A couldn’t react before Alisa’s hand was on her back and magic was pumping through her body. She found herself shrinking, at the same time that her short black hair was growing out and brightening considerably in shade. Her proportions shifted, so that her modest chest and bottom expanded while her waist contracted to fit her new self’s figure better. Although, the proportions were now rather exaggerated - especially her head, which remained rather large compared to the rest of her body, and her feet which flattened considerably so she could stand. She whirled around, ready to give her junior a tongue lashing, but her mouth froze mid sentence as she froze into just the kind of haughty, smug pose that Alisa would take. Her body hardened and became plastic. Her clothes morphed and changed on her body until they took the appropriate shape...
Magical Fangirl A struggled, trying to use her magic, but B had sucked it out of her - she had nothing left, and was at the girl’s whims as she picked up the new nendoroid. In some ways, it resembled herself, with it’s long gold hair and smug posture. It was wearing the outfit of the real and only Magical Fangirl’s second favorite magical girl, Alisa - because that’s what it was, a small bobble-headed model of Alisa.
Magical Fangirl, no longer B because there wasn’t an A anymore, carefully positioned the model on the bedside table, where it would overlook the rest of her collection. It didn’t make a sound as it was placed, although she was sure it would enjoy it’s position. Then, she snuggled into the bed with her Chiyoko body pillow (lewd side towards her of course), and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of all the merchandise she’d create the next day.
