Sophie and Marina landed on the scene in full magical girl regalia. If there was actually a villain, a Corrupt Being, or anything else like that around, then they wouldn’t have the time for subtlety. The police had already cordoned off the building, keeping any spectators from coming in and prepared to delay any monsters that pushed out of the zone. They wouldn’t be able to stop them, but they might be able to delay them long enough for surrounding blocks to evacuate.
The general powerlessness of police against magical creatures was illustrated by the location of the Corrupt Being; it was a police station that had been taken over today, with a group of female officers holding the barricade outside of the entrance. As soon as their feet touched the ground, the magical girls were approached by the leading officer on the scene.
“Hey, we’re here to help-” Sophie started, but the officer ignored her and started talking.
“There are still some officers held up inside - they haven’t been converted yet, and we need to get them out of there before anything.” The chief said quickly, “You girls can handle doing more than just smashing in the face of the first Corrupted Being you see, right?”
Sophie and Marina looked at each other; not all cops were all that enthused to give up authority to magical girls. They weren’t in their chain of command, and yet there wasn’t exactly another option when it came to dealing with magic, at least if the cops in question didn’t want to spend the next several hours transformed into minions. ...Also, magical girls were in fact prone to more collateral damage than cops. It’s difficult to hold back sometimes.
“Now, listen here you bit-” Marina was going to shout something, but Sophie held the redhead back.
“Yes, we can. I’ll head in first, nice and quiet.” Sophie said, throwing up a salute and turning to enter the building. “Marina, be good and don’t antagonize the chief, ok?”
Marina rolled her eyes. “I don’t have to take this-”
“Yes, you do.” Sophie hissed, pulling her away from the cop. “Magical girl - police relations are strained enough without us hurting them, remember?”
Marina pulled her arm away, but relented. “Yeaaaaah, fine.” she said, settling and leaning against a police cruiser to wait.
Sophie turned to the chief again. Admittedly, there was something… off, in her. She understood Marina’s reluctance to play well - the look in her eyes, the sheer contempt, was irritating to a rather high level. This was on a different level than the dislike that they usually saw. “...Are you alright, ma’am?”
The chief gave her a withering glare in response. “Yes. Don’t you have a job to do, vigilante? They’re in the second floor breakroom. Find them and bring them here.”
Sophie flinched back and Marina gave her a look of pure ‘Told you so’. Not wanting to work this mission for any longer than necessary, Sophie ran around the side of the building and leaped onto a fire escape, entering through a window.
As Sophie disappeared into the precinct, Marina sighed. She hated this kind of delicate section to jobs. It was much better when the Corrupt being was all out in the open and waiting for a fight. “So what kind of Corrupt Being is it, if you saw?” she asked idly. “So I can do my job.”
The chief scoffed. “You mean our job. You’re a vigilante, not a cop. It’s a wonder you and your sort aren’t in jail for running around with magical firepower. If you want to help out, wait until you’re 18 and sign up for the academy.”
“That’s real nice, but I do need to know.” Marina said sourly. “I don’t need a soapbox.”
“Dogs.” The chief said simply. “The Corrupt Being was in charge of this precinct’s K9 units.”
Marina nodded. “And I take it that means she turns the police into dog people.”
“That’d be right.” The chief said. “Dog-girls, specifically.”
“Because of course.” It could never be easy, could it. She settled to wait some more, idly observing the barricade, and the officers manning it. There was a disproportionate number of women, she noticed - the city’s police department prided itself on it’s number of female officers, but this was a little ridiculous. And… what was the weird bulge around the ass…
Oh.
She added two and two just about when she was slammed against the cruiser. The cops turned around all at once, tails popping from their pants and hats flying off as dog ears sprung up. It was a trap. She had to warn Sophie, she had a communicator-
“STAY!” A shrill whistle blew right in her ear, breaking up and scattering her thoughts. She blinked, disoriented, and looked up at the police chief - who had revealed herself to be a woman with German Shepherd ears and tail, elongated canine teeth, and a malicious grin. “Stay!” she said again, bringing the whistle back to her lips.
“What…” Marina stammered, before another blow of the whistle broke her thoughts again. Once, twice, thrice - she lost count, the blowing of the whistle and the accompanying command blasted away her mind and will to do anything but obey. No communicating. No getting help. No running. No fighting. Just stay.
As Marina was left staring straight ahead blankly, tongue lolling out and drooling a bit as she waited for a new command, the Chief grinned. “Good girl. Now, vigilante, before you can officially join the force, I’ve got one more job for you...”
The police station was oddly empty as Sophie stalked through it quietly. There was no sign of the Corrupt being, or even minions - it was like everyone, Corrupt being included, had picked up and left. This was of course impossible, since every entrance was being watched; even if the cops couldn’t stop the Corrupt Being from escaping, they’d be able to say where it went and when. Which meant that it was still somewhere in the building.
A few minutes later, she found the cops huddled in the second floor break room. The men, rather different than their chief outside, were quite happy to see a friendly face. “Let’s get you out of here!” she said after she convinced them she wasn’t the Corrupt Being in disguise.
“How’d you know we were here?” One of the cops asked.
“The chief outside said you were.” Sophie said simply, “Come on!”
As they snuck through the empty halls and down the stairs, one of them continued to talk. “I know we should be quiet… but did you say chief?”
“Yeah?” Sophie hissed.
“He was the first one nabbed, though…”
“What? But she was right outside… do you have any ranking female officers?”
“Nobody on duty - Yumeko’s on sick leave…”
There was a shout from outside, and Sophie stood. “We’ve got a problem then!”
She rushed down the stairs in time to see Marina frantically barge through the doors. “Sophie!” she called out when she saw her.
“Marina, what’s the situation-” she had run down the stairs and started to the door, when suddenly Marina tackled her to the ground.
“I got her chief! I did what you wanted!” She called over her shoulder, and the chief came in, animal features showing on both her and her two dog-cops. “Do I get to join for real now? Do I?”
“M-Marina, what are you doing!?” Sophie stammered, but looking at the spiraling in the other girl’s green eyes, it was abundantly clear that Marina wasn’t the one in charge anymore.
The chief grinned. “Good girl! You got the dastardly vigilante. Now listen closely…”
She brought a whistle to her mouth, and blew. Sophie didn’t hear anything, but Marina straightened sharply. Still holding Sophie down, she changed rapidly. Her magical girl outfit was the first to go, morphing from a fluffy and frilly dress, into denim and leather. The shape changed as well, separating into a top and pants, shading from red to bright blue. “A-Ah!” she gasped, as the new form fitting police costume settled on her body, “M-More chief, I’m not done yet!”
Another whistle, and more changes. Sophie watched Marina’s ears disappear into her hair, while new ones poked through on top of her head. Her grip grew stronger and slightly painful as she gained muscles and her nails lengthened into claws, while a long fluffy tail forced it’s way through a new hole in her pants. Her teeth sharpened into canine fangs, and the loopy eyes went away as she shifted from being merely hypnotized to a proper minion.
“Thaaaanks chieeef!” The new dog-girl sang as she stroked her new ears and tail. “What’re my next orders? I’m a good girl and I want orders!”
The chief tossed Marina her other whistle. “Make this civilian learn her place, won’t you?”
“Marina, no, whatever she’s telling you to do-” Sophie wasn’t able to finish her plea, as the shrill whistle sounded right in her ear. “...What?” she managed after a second. Marina took a deep breath and blew again, harder and longer.
By the time Marina was out of breath, Sophie was drooling and staring blankly upwards. “Whoops! I think I might’ve overcooked her a bit!” Marina said with dissonant cheer.
“That’s fine - she doesn’t need much of a mind with what her job is going to be!” The chief said cheerfully. “Now, Sophie… round up all those remaining men and bring them here. Then you get to join the force! Doesn’t that sound nice?”
Sophie staggered to her feet without a sound, and turned to the cops on the top of the stairs. They started to run. And the little bits of thought still functioning under the intense hypnosis giggled madly at the thought of a chase!
