Lara groggily opened one eye when she felt something against her leg. It was the middle of the night, and she and Trina were asleep. At least, she had been asleep, and as far as she knew, Trina still was. The two of them had had a long day, trying out Trina's new duplicates and seeing what they could do with them. That kind of thing would wear anyone out.

Lara was sure that she had sorted herself out when they were done. She and Trina's dupes had all their parts back in the right places, and Trina had left her dupes in recharge mode. She couldn't switch into either of them while they were charging, or so Lara thought. It didn't make sense for Trina's blue dupe to be standing by her side of the bed, reaching down to her.

"Wha - whassis?" said Lara, trying to decide whether to wake up the rest of the way or not.

The blue dupe bent over and took hold of Lara's leg by the ankle. She tried to pull loose, but the blue dupe had a pretty strong grip. When she started to struggle a little, the dupe put its other hand on Lara's thigh and detached her leg entirely.

Lara looked at the dupe's face. It didn't look like Trina when she was being playful. It didn't really have an expression at all. The eyes were open, but the rest of the face looked just like it did when it was charging.

"Trina?" said Lara. "Are you awake?" She was starting to clear the cobwebs out of her head now. "Something's up."

The dupe turned to face Lara, and then it reached down toward her head. Lara thought it was going to try to muffle her, but it reached for her neck and separated her head instead. It palmed her neck stump in one hand as it carried her leg in the other, and it walked out of the bedroom with Lara's head dangling upside down beside it.

"Trina?" said Lara. "Trina! Wake up!"

The dupe swung her leg and tossed it onto something hard, and then it tossed her head along with it. With Lara's upgrades, the landing didn't actually hurt her, but the rough impact still wasn't comfortable. She tried to get an idea of what was going on, but there wasn't much light, and she had landed face down on among some vaguely round things. Lara worked her jaw back and forth to try to reposition her head until she could get a view of the room. She ended up with everything at a weird angle, but at least she could see.

The blue dupe was wandering around their living room, poking at random things like it didn't know what they were. The pile of round things her head and leg were sitting on were the detached pieces of Trina's metallic pink dupe, still apparently in recharge mode. Whatever was affecting the blue one hadn't spread to it, but even if it did, Lara wasn't sure if it could do anything while it was in a pile like that.

"What is going on here?" said Lara to herself, softly in case the dupe heard her. "Did it get a virus or something?"

Whatever was happening, she needed to wake Trina up and get her to deal with her toy. Her body was still lying in bed next to Trina, so she felt around until her hand found Trina's shoulder and just started shaking it. Nothing happened for a few seconds, so she felt around for Trina's face and started poking at her nose and tugging at her cheeks until she could Trina waking up.

"What the - what are you doing?" said Trina. Lara could just barely hear her.

"Trina, I need you to come in here right away!" said Lara. Maybe the dupe would hear her and try something, but she had to risk it. "I think one of your dupes is haunted or something."

"Why is your head in there?" said Trina from the bedroom. "And where's your leg?"

"Come in here and see for yourself!" said Lara. "And give me a shoulder to lean on, will you?"

Lara heard footsteps from the bedroom, and then she felt Trina pick her up and cradle her in her arms. Her footsteps got louder until Lara could see Trina enter the living room out of the corner of her eye.

"My hero," said Lara, stroking Trina's face with her free hand. Now that she could see where Trina was, she used her point of view to grab Trina's chin and aim her at the pile of parts in the corner of the room, and then toward the runaway dupe wandering around. By now, the haunted dupe had noticed the commotion and was moving toward Trina with its arms outstretched. There was no telling what it wanted to do.

"Well, that's not supposed to happen," said Trina.

"No kidding," said Lara. "What do you want to do about it?"

"Well, I'm definitely going to message the company in the morning," said Trina, "but right now I want to get it apart so it doesn't try anything funny. You go in from the front and I'll come around behind."

"What do you mean, I go in from the front?" said Lara. "What do you expect me to do from down here?"

Trina set Lara's body down on her one leg and pointed her at the dupe. The dupe came for her, and Lara left blindly forward on one leg to go for some kind of tackle. She staggered the dupe for a moment, but it quickly recovered as it wrapped its arms around Lara's midsection and peeled her apart at the waist.

"Oh, come on," said Lara as her remaining leg and top half hit the floor. "Well, Trina, I think I've done all I can. Your turn."

Trina came up on the dupe from behind and grabbed its shoulders, separating them both. She then spun the dupe's arms around and held them under her own arms, freeing her hands to grab the dupe's wrists and separate the hands. As the armless dupe turned to face her, Trina quickly removed its head, then its chest, then its belly, popping apart each joint with a smooth motion and rolling each part into a different corner of the room. She then tipped over the dupe's lower half and lowered it gently to the floor so she could separate its feet and legs from its hips, leaving the entire thing in blue rubbery pieces around the whole living room.

"Wow," said Lara. "You managed to make an even bigger mess."

"Well, at least now it can't carry away any more parts of you," said Trina. "Maybe this was because of all that time we spent swapping parts around yesterday."

"Or maybe it's because you spent so much time in three places at once," said Lara. "Either way, can you help me get back together so we can go back to bed? I've got work in the morning."

"Yeah, I got you," said Trina, picking up her head from the pile and kissing her on the cheek. "After all this, how could I get back to sleep without my cuddly teddy head?"

"Wait a minute," said Lara, rolling her torso over and crawling back toward the bedroom. "You are going to put me back together, right?"

Trina giggled and picked up Lara's leg.

"Oh, fine," said Lara. "Just make sure you help me get ready in the morning, then."
