Next: Chapter 3: Exploring the Deep
Mary Volgelson felt the first tingling of conscious thought rousing her from slumber. Her internal alarm clock was going off again, and the thirty-five year old sighed to herself; the bed seemed so warm and inviting, it didn’t seem possible that it could be six-o’clock.
Despite her stubborn efforts to deny it, her body continued its normal routine of getting alert and ready for the day. At last she sighed and got up from the surprisingly comfortable bed she’d been sleeping in and walked to the boudoir. Pulling out a fresh uniform, she dressed automatically, her mind already turning over the information she’d received yesterday.
Waking up to the sight of an enormous golden reptile while utterly naked had been...an unusual experience, one she would rather not go through again if she could help it. Learning about being asleep for three million years, well, she wasn’t sure if that fact had completely sunk in yet or not. But the new people, the Brissons...that


Prev: Chapter 1: First MeetingsJake stared down at the three intruders as they gaped up at him in awe. One, obviously female, kept shaking her head slightly as if trying to deny her senses; the other two just stood stock still, like deer caught in headlights.
“I believe I asked a question.” Jake grumbled. He felt a little cranky after such a long sleep—just how long he couldn’t tell, his sense of time was quite fouled up.
They opened their mouths as if to speak, though no noise came out. They looked so comical that Jake actually laughed; a deep rolling sound that shook the hall and made the gold bounce and rattle together. The three aliens threw themselves on the floor and covered their ears, whimpering. Evidently they thought he’d lost his patience and was going to eat them!
As one they began to speak, the words rushed and overlapping to the point where any individual sentence was impossible to pick out.
