Chapter Thirteen: Rise of EvilJake looked down at the body before him, but he didn't really see it. His thoughts spun and smashed together as he tried to decipher Cassandra's last, cryptic message. Most of it seemed clear, there were more of her kind out there, but well-hidden and difficult to track down. The rest seemed less clear.
"What did she mean by that?" Tom asked.
"It seems straightforward." Rachel replied softly. "There's something worse out there. And that something is nearly ready to reveal itself."
"Worse than Cassandra?" Stacey asked in horror.
"Apparently she thought so." Brian gestured at the girl. "She also mentioned that there were others of her kind out there, and indicated that something else not of her kind had helped her this time around. Those mudmen are clearly not of her doing."
"Agreed. Although I find it strange that they would all die when she died." Jake commented.

Chapter 11 Part 2 A Desperate CourseThe rest of the kidnappings went much the same as Stacey’s family. Jake would fly to where they were, and stoop down on them when they came out. Brian’s parents he nabbed while they walked to their car from a movie. Rachel’s he found at a cabin in the woods where Rachel said they used to go fishing. Her father had been down at the end of the dock, not fishing but crying instead when Jake picked him up. Her mother he’d had to trick out of the house with his impersonation of Rachel, but he snatched her too. Rachel’s brother proved easier because he’d been at work for a construction company on the highway overpass. His fellow coworkers had tried to save him, despite not knowing what was happening. Jake also managed to secure his family as well, though he’d been much more careful with them, as the son was only three and the daughter an infant in her mother’s arms.
