Some initial results from an investigation into the properties of alternative configurations of extremities for the legs. Here we see four alternatives:
“Normal” — a conventional foot configuration, for reference
“Toethumbs” — a relatively minor modification, consisting of re-orientation of the big toe to give it some of the opposability of an actual thumb, but with minimal impact on standing/walking ability
“Fingertoes” — going a bit further, lengthening and reorienting the toes to give them more of the characteristics of fingers
“Leghands” — complete replacement of the feet with full-function hands.
This particular demonstration shows the ability to form a fist (or approximations thereof), as a first step towards determining holding/manipulation capability.
