Too much of science fiction is about advances in starships and such traditional forms of space travel. But biology is a science, too, and already in our time some applications to our own bodies are giving a certain pause for thought. What if this is carried through to the next level? What if our natural unaugmented bodies are just too frail to withstand the rigours of extended time in deep space, so we have no choice about modifying ourselves if we want to strike forth into the wild, starry black yonder?
Partly inspired by this little strip.
By the way, some explicit anatomical details may not be to everyone’s taste.
