Here we are experimenting with a compound for body healing and growth. Once perfected, there is clearly potential for regrowing of body parts lost to amputation. But more than that, it could be used to enhance human function beyond the norm, by the addition of extra body parts. Here a normal, healthy volunteer subject from our research staff, born with the usual number of fingers and toes, acquires an extra, fully-functional finger on her left hand.

The operation took place a few days ago, and the subject so far shows no sign of ill effects. Dexterity tests show her still getting used to her extra body part, which continues to fascinate her (and the rest of our research staff). She has already expressed enthusiasm for further treatments, including remedying her current state of asymmetry by adding a corresponding extra finger on her right hand.

We stress that this result is very much preliminary, and longer-term side-effects of the treatment remain unknown. However, we expect this success will lead to more ambitious projects, such as growing of larger portions of body parts, like hands or feet, or even entire limbs.
