I previously discussed the issue of what it might be like to experience having extra body parts, along with the relevant voluntary muscles to control them, and associated sensory experience, like having extra fully-functional fingers on the hands.
Here, I talk about the flipside of this particular situation, namely the structural compromises that seem to go with full-function polydactyly. Let’s just say it’s not the unalloyed advantage it may appear at first sight.
