In the 1979 graphic novel Champakou by Jeronaton, set in the time of the ancient Mayan empire, one of the principal characters was an alien woman who didn’t wear clothes. Instead, she could change the colour and pattern of her skin and hair to whatever she wished, for decorative or camouflage purposes. Her usual state seemed to be blue skin and blonde hair.
She is never given a name; instead, Champakou simply refers to her as “Woman of Heaven”, since she came in a craft from the heavens.
In the climactic scene, illustrated here, she claims to be Ixchel, the wife of the sun god Kimichkakno, to try to dissuade the people of the city of Sayatal from attacking her. Not that she has anything to fear from them; that contraption in her hand is a “trigam”, a beam weapon with power way beyond anything a stone-age culture might be able to muster.
