Alyssa woke up covered up to her head by a warm, snug cocoon of starry energy. Attached to it was Kat's head, made of the same, which lay on the bed next to Alyssa's, faces touching.
"Mmm..." Alyssa smiled. "That was the coziest night I've ever had...morning Kat."
"Hey Lyss."
"Mind covering me for a bit longer? You're so warm."
There was a knock at the door.
Before Kat or Alyssa could react, the blue part of Alyssa's hair shot out in the shape of a hand and opened the door, then waved to Tara, Rachel, and Kaly.
"Well that's convenient," Kat smiled.
"Tara, Rachel, wow, love the new look," complimented Alyssa.
"That's not all that's new," Tara winked. She held out her hand toward Kat's energy double, and blasted her with a sudden torrent of water.
"What the?" Kat unwrapped herself from Alyssa and dried herself off by swirling into a tornado of energy.
Tara gently tossed out her hand, throwing sparkles in front of the bed which formed a familiar-looking chair.
"Hey, that's Stacy's chair, isn't it?" said Kat. "She'll be glad to hear you could—"
Tara snapped her fingers, and a second chair fell on top of it, appearing in an explosion of glitter.
"Whoa, how are you—"
"I can recreate the things I've sparklified now!" she said eagerly.
Tara tossed out her hand toward the chairs, sending sparkles toward them and turning it to a powder with the consistency of sand.
"I can throw their properties around too," Tara continued. "Pretty cool, huh?"
"What do you mean?" asked Alyssa.
Tara placed her hand on the lavender-colored bedding and breathed in, absorbing its color through her hand and leaving it colorless. Playfully twirling her finger, Tara pointed at the carpet, the broken TV, and once again the bed, turning each of them the same color. She blew some lavender-colored sparkles off her finger like smoke from a gun.
"No way!" exclaimed Kat. "Rachel, what about you?"
"I can't do that, but..." Rachel closed her eyes and held out her hands. Magical sparkles flew from what looked like everything in the room into her hands.
"What are you doing?" asked Alyssa, intrigued.
Rachel spun around in a tornado and came out as an exact duplicate of the table beside the bed. Then she turned into a copy of the broken TV, then went back to her normal form. "I don't have to destroy something to sparklify it! So I can sparklify everything!"
"Whoa whoa whoa, wait a sec," Tara interrupted. "Why's your TV broken?"
"She did it," said Kat, pointing to Alyssa. "I tried to stop her, but you know how she gets when she doesn't like the news." Kat threw an exaggerated punch toward an energy copy of the TV that appeared on the bed, and exploded into pink light. Kat snickered.
"Very funny, Kat," Alyssa smiled. She looked at Tara. "I was just trying to turn it on with my mind but I don't think I did it right."
"Ours is broken too though, now they're gonna think—"
"Repair," Kaly calmly ordered, pointing to the broken TV. Pieces floated over from across the room, and the TV warped and changed until it was good as new. Kaly twitched one of her cat ears toward the TV and it turned on. She stood there, looking smug.
"Well that solves that," Alyssa smiled.
"Grow," said Kaly, holding her hand toward the TV with her fingers closed, and then spreading them. The TV grew to twice its size in time with Kaly's gesture. Smirking, Kaly closed and opened her fingers several more times, and as she did, the size of the TV continued to change.
"Wow, that's amazing!" said Alyssa.
Of course, Kaly wasn't done showing off. She twirled her tail toward the glass window and beckoned with it, and out stepped a copy of herself made of glass, who waved to everyone. Kaly waved back, pointed at her glass copy, and said one word: "Chair." In an instant, her copy turned into a glass chair. Kaly's eyes glowed green, as did the chair, which lost its legs and instead floated over to Kaly who sat down inside.
"I think this room could use a few adjustments," Kaly smirked. She held out her hand toward the bathroom door and slid it open from across the room without touching it, just a casual wave of her hand. "Hmm," she said pensively. "Ah, I know." Kaly made a motion with her hand like she was turning on the sink, and the sink turned on. "How about an invisible water slide?" The water coming from the sink suddenly changed course, flowing at an angle out of the sink, around loops and curls, even out of the bathroom and around the bed, before finally ending inside the shower.
"What if we need to use the sink?" asked energy-Kat.
"You still can." Kaly stretched her arms to the sink like they were elastic, and washed her hands in the stream of water. Returning her arms to their normal length, Kaly twirled a finger and turned off the faucet, before lifting off her chair and relaxing in the air. Holding out her hand, she called for her glass chair, which obediently shrank and floated above her hand. Then she simply blew it away like dust, which dissipated into the air.
Snickering, Kaly pointed to a glass pipe leading to the shower head, and drew a path in the air with her finger. With a pink and green glow, a new path formed from the pipe as she drew it. She then cut the original pipe with two fingers in a little slicing motion, leaving sealed ends instead of a leak.
"So...I'm guessing you're at full power together?" Alyssa asked excitedly. "Like before we came here? I mean I guess Lily never was, and Kat only with my help, but—"
"Actually that was me," came a voice from Alyssa's hair.
"Right," Alyssa giggled.
"Not quite," Kaly answered, knowing what they meant. "But I can do quite a bit," she winked.
"Hey you," said Kaly, pointing at the wall. "Polka dots. Now." Black spots appeared all over the wall. "In different colors please?" she added in pretend impatience. The spots were now in every color of the rainbow. "This is so much fun," Kaly giggled.
Rachel smiled, having thought of an idea. Like in her dream, she inhaled as if through a straw. The spots flew off the wall and into her, where they appeared on her skin. "Heehee," she giggled.
Tara pointed at a vent on the ceiling, and dragged her finger over to the glass wall leading outside. The vent was now a solid metal panel, and the holes were on the window instead. "Hmm..." In a sparkly blue glow, Tara hovered over to the window and began twirling her finger in circles. The vortex of her calm finger motion formed a thin water spout in the ocean outside, about a mile away. It bent and turned around the complex Facetian architecture, until it got to her finger, where she absorbed it. "Ha, I think I caught a fish!" she laughed. Concentrating a bit, she turned her legs into a scaly blue fish tail. "Yep...look, I'm a mermaid!"
"Let's get you in a tank," said Kaly. A blob of glass came off the window and formed a box shape around Tara, with an open top. Tara sprayed some salt water from her hand and filled it up.
"Hmm, what else could use a change?" Kaly playfully paced around. "Aww!" Kaly walked over to a painting of a black Labrador Retriever hanging on the wall. "Aren't you cute? Who's a good boy?" Kaly stroked the picture with her finger like it was a real animal, as it started panting.
"Woof! Woof!" The painting barked just like a real dog.
Kaly dashed to the opposite side of room in a streak of pink light. "Come here!" Kaly beckoned to the dog, which jumped out of the picture and came into being in starry black energy, with a more neutral, white glow rather than the usual violet-pink tint of Kat's constructs. The dog ran around the room and pounced on Kaly, who pet it briefly. It then ran over to Alyssa and started licking her face.
Kaly placed her hands on her hips and smirked. "Well now we need a new painting, don't we? Let's see..." Kaly hovered over to the painting. "Fruit," she said, speaking the image of a bowl of fruit into the frame. "Nah, too boring. How about...Pizza," she teased. The image rippled and was replaced with that of an open pizza box, inside of which was a cheese pizza with one missing slice. She looked at it and nodded in appreciation, but then she got a better idea. "How about a selfie? Kaly," she intoned, replacing the picture with an image of herself. She gave a peace sign, and the picture of Kaly did the same, freezing in place. "Perfect!"
As if to finish the piece, the black lab ran over and jumped into the painting, landing in Kaly's arms. "Hahaha!" the real Kaly laughed. "Now it's perfect!"
"You all have fun; I'm gonna go take a shower," said Alyssa.
As Alyssa stepped into the bathroom, Kaly started snickering.
"What's so funny?" asked Tara.
"Oh, nothing," Kaly lied, a lie that only got harder to keep up as she heard the squeaking of the shower handle, as Alyssa tried to turn it on. "Wait a second, why isn't—"
The metal ceiling panel that used to be a vent gave way, and water started pouring from the ceiling.
"...Whoops," said Kaly.
Everyone else facepalmed, except for Kat.
The water stopped, and just in time, Alyssa walked out of the bathroom. "The shower isn't working."
Everyone pointed to Kaly.
Alyssa sighed and shook her head, smiling a bit.
"I guess I'll fix it," said Kaly. With a twirl of her index finger in its direction, she lifted the fallen metal cover into the air, then pointed at the hole in the ceiling, directing the cover back into place. She walked over to the bathroom, and redid the plumbing how it was, using her finger like before.
Tara moved the holes back to the vent cover from the window.
"So what kind of animal are you, Lyss?" asked Kat.
"Huh?"
"You were using the pet shower, weren't you?" asked Kaly.
"Is that why it was so cramped in there?" Alyssa laughed. "Where's the human shower?"
Kat stepped out of Kaly and dispelled her energy copy, leaving herself and Lily once more. She smiled, always amused when Alyssa didn't pick up on something that would be obvious to anyone from her own dimension. "Here's how we do it here," said Kat, leading Alyssa into the bathroom. She turned on the sink and picked up the bar of soap. Then, suddenly, the bar of soap fell into the sink as Kat was pulled inside. Black and pink suds formed as the water fell onto the soap. Kat's face appeared in the bubbles, saying "hi!"
Alyssa was quite impressed.
Less than a minute later, Kat came back out, perfectly clean. "I can't imagine taking a shower like a dog," she laughed.
"Yeah, you've always preferred to do it like a Kat, haven't you?" Lily called in from the other room as Alyssa proceeded to imprint on a bar of soap herself.
Kat giggled. Her kind of humor often rubbed off on Lily after spending a lot of time together as one person.
"Hey Kat, look!" Tara pointed at the TV, which was showing a news report. They were interviewing the owner of a store, discussing a recent drop in business.
"...perfectly honest, I'm hardly concerned at all, well not about business—" said the woman on TV.
Kat looked at the TV, and did a double-take.
"Isn't that the store where we met?" asked Tara. "Remember? In the fitting room?" she added, noting Kat's confusion.
Kat just stared, slack-jawed.
"Is that Alyssa?" asked Rachel, pointing out the lone customer in the background. "Oh wait, no, it says it's live."
"Where is that? Some kind of weird body shop or something? Looks awfully boring," Lily snorted.
"It's just that these—well at this point it's pretty hard to call them rumors—" the interviewee elaborated. "But doesn't it seem like none of this is going to matter soon? I mean, whether it's used for good or bad, such power—" The TV cut to static and resumed showing run-of-the-mill local programming.
"Wait..." Tara looked at Rachel, then back at Kat, then back at Rachel.
"That store...that store's back in our world..." Rachel sputtered. "What's going on?"
The telephone rang. "Call from Sandra, Upper South Facet Hospital," said a computerized voice.
Kat answered her cell phone, to which the room phone had automatically connected. "How's Stacy?" she answered.
"Same as before?" asked Kat.
"Again? Aww...any idea what it means at least?" Kat replied to the nurse now known as Sandra.
"Okay...yeah, let's hope. Thanks for letting me know."
Alyssa walked back out of the bathroom and noticed everyone's expression. "What happened?"
