Alyssa, still a blob of liquid, came to a stop as she wondered what else she could turn herself into. She was able to turn into liquid without much thought, in fact it felt so natural to her that it didn't even occur to her to wonder if she could do it; she just did. Could she turn into other things too, without just imprinting on something that was already there? She probably could; in fact she could probably turn into anything she wanted, considering she could turn anything else into anything she wanted without even a touch.
Alyssa took on a humanoid shape resembling her normal body, then returned to her normal human form. Concentrating, she imagined herself becoming a bird—she'd always wondered what that would be like, but she could never get close enough to imprint on one—and to her delight, she felt her body quickly changing shape and becoming smaller. Curious how she looked, she rubbed a webbed blue foot on the floor to make a large area reflective like a mirror, and looked down.
Staring back at Alyssa was a light blue birdlike creature, with wings made of clouds. She loved how she looked! It wasn't exactly what a bird looked like, but she did recognize this creature she now was. She had seen it once in an anime or something while flipping channels, and the design stuck with her. What made it just perfect was that the creature in question seemed to be the pet of a girl with a similar name to her own. As for why Alyssa now found herself in that form, she realized she hadn't thought to actually come up with a specific image of a bird and instead unconsciously latched on to this design she identified with, so that was what she became.
Meanwhile, Rachel and Kat had been having fun becoming weird shapes and showing each other. Kat, who already had plenty of experience being a liquid via imprinting, was doing most of the showing, turning into more and more intricate shapes she had previously practiced and challenging Rachel to duplicate them, which she did without much effort.
As for Tara, she was content just sitting and watching her other self have fun. Then she noticed Alyssa, who was flying around the room in an exotic form that looked quite solid. "Alyssa? Is that you?" she asked.
As Rachel and Kat moved their faces to different sides of their bodies to look, Alyssa morphed back into her usual self and landed on her feet. "Yeah, it was...wow, this is amazing, it's like I can turn into whatever I think of. Try it, you probably can too..." She turned to Kat. "Kat, wanna merge with me again? The right way this time, so you can try with me?"
Rachel went back to her normal human form and sat down next to Tara to watch.
"Ooh, yes!" said Kat excitedly, as her liquid form flowed back into the shape of her normal body, though still remaining liquid. "Turn me back to normal first though."
Alyssa waved a hand at Kat to change her back as she walked toward her. She was still amazed at how effortlessly she could transform matter now. The two of them held hands and were about to merge, but when Alyssa saw Tara and Rachel sitting together, she thought of something else. "Actually, I've got a better idea."
Alyssa closed her eyes, and without much effort split into two identical copies of herself. "Whoa, this is weird..." said both of them in unison. "Here, imprint on me," continued only one of them, holding out her hand.
Curious as to what Alyssa's idea was, Kat did as instructed, and the other Alyssa found herself standing next to the person she remembered seeing in the mirror the first time they merged, the one known as Aly-Kat. But then Kat felt Alyssa's personality fading away. "Lyss?"
"And there you go," said Alyssa, the one who didn't have Kat inside her. "Now you can enjoy it all you want!"
"Ooh, nice!" cheered Rachel. "Great idea, Alyssa! Kat, you should thank her!"
"But where did you...I can hardly feel you."
"That body's yours now, Kat!" explained Alyssa. "I'll keep myself to this one."
Noticing the area of the floor Alyssa had previously made reflective, Kat looked at herself. She looked almost entirely like she did normally; the only difference was a tiny streak of light blue next to the top of the pink part of her hair. "But why do I need...wait..." Kat lit up as she realized the purpose that should have been obvious. She knelt down and touched the reflective part of the floor...and with hardly any effort the floor went back to normal. "Wait, so I can—no way, this is awesome! Thank you!"
Alyssa just cutely smiled at Kat, as if to say "you're welcome."
"Now you can do it too," said Rachel. "How do you feel? It's so great being able to just change anything you see." Rachel held her hand in the air and wiggled her fingers to illustrate, sending a wave of rainbow colors over the whole room starting from the couch she was sitting on, changing everything as the wave passes over it but not actually leaving any changes behind. "The world is your canvas," said Rachel, pointing her index finger at the opposite wall and twirling it around a little to create intricate abstract patterns from her mind.
"This is gonna be awesome...you mind if I mess around with your house a bit? Now I wanna see what I can do."
"Sure! I can always put it back." Rachel snapped her fingers, undoing all the changes that had been made to the house since Kat and Alyssa arrived. "Just like that," she added with a smile. "And so can you, of course!"
Just then, Alyssa noticed Tara was gone, and in her place on the couch was a puppy. A royal blue puppy, with beautiful sparkling fur. Its actual identity was obvious.
"Awww, Tara, you're so cute!" exclaimed Alyssa as she pet Tara. "I've never seen fur like this before!"
"Isn't she pretty?" said Rachel as she leaned over to pet her transformed double as well. "I was wondering when you'd notice her! Actually the fur was my idea; at first it was just brown like our hair."
"Kat, come here," said Alyssa. "Come look at Tara."
"Whoa, what...is that you, Tara?" asked Kat as she walked over. Tara barked and nodded her head.
"And I can do that too now, can't I?" Not wasting any time, Kat closed her eyes and imagined herself as a puppy just like Tara, and made her imagined transformation real. Now there was a second puppy in the room, sitting on the floor in place of Kat, with black, pink-streaked fur. Kat's tail was wagging vigorously, as she excitedly barked several times before jumping on the couch next to Tara and sniffing her. "This is so cool, I can't see as well but I can smell everything now!" exclaimed Kat, after giving herself the ability to speak in human language, somehow without moving her mouth. "And let me try something..." Kat blinked, and her dog eyes turned into her human eyes. "Yep, now I can see just as well too!"
"Looks kinda creepy though, with your human eyes there," laughed Rachel.
Tara morphed back into a human and picked up Kat in her arms, holding her close to her face. "Sorry, I'm not gonna lick you," joked Kat.
"So is no one going to mention how we now have a dog named Kat?" asked Alyssa after a pause.
Tara and Rachel laughed.
"Oh yeah, good point!" said Kat. She leapt into the air and did a flip, and when she landed she was a kitten instead. "This is so awesome! I can turn into anything I want! It's the best gift ever—thank you so much, Lyss!"
"My pleasure!" replied Alyssa. "Couldn't stand to see you miss out on it!"
"Hmm, I wonder how big I can make myself." Kat wondered aloud as she made herself gradually increase in size. As she grew to fill most of the room, accidentally crushing Tara's glass table in the process, Tara, Rachel, and Alyssa made for the edges of the room to avoid getting crushed themselves by the increasingly-large Cat in the room—not that getting their bodies crushed was likely a concern for them anymore.
"Kat, I think that's big enough," suggested Tara.
"Wow, I don't feel like there's any limit." Kat stopped growing regardless, on her own accord. Owing to her size, her voice was significantly louder than it was before. "I bet I could become as big as the planet if I wanted...I'm afraid to try though." Kat fluidly morphed back into a human while keeping her large size. Now there was a giant woman in the room, on all fours, who dwarfed the three regular-sized (but no less powerful) other women.
"Alright, now I'm pretty scared," admitted Rachel.
"How come?" boomed Kat.
"It seems like these...abilities will eventually be in the hands of everyone," explained Tara. "People could do some pretty terrible things." Tara looked at Rachel. "That what you meant, Rach?"
Rachel nodded to Tara. "Well I mean it'll also be really great for everyone, of course...but if even just one person grows that big, or even...does any number of other things, there's so much that could be destroyed."
"Yeah, I know..." sighed Alyssa. "And you know someone will, at some point."
Kat shrank down a bit until her body was confined to a corner of the room, but still about two or three times the size of a normal human. "Couldn't you just fix it though? Like this?" Kat twirled a giant finger and pointed it at the table she broke, which magically went back together and restored itself perfectly. Kat squealed a little, still understandably excited about what she could do.
"Yeah, but...I mean it'll be chaos," said Alyssa. "Right, Rachel?"
Rachel nodded.
"And what Kat said is true. It wouldn't be right to just...forbid people from reaching their own natural potential. If that's even possible."
"Whoa, check this out!" Kat, finally normal-sized again, had been playing with her newfound powers some more. In mid-air in front of Kat, there were what looked like a pair of holes in the fabric of space. Kat put her finger through one to demonstrate how it came out the other. "I'm like...bending space or something, it's weird!"
"No way!" exclaimed Tara. Rachel and Alyssa were visibly impressed as well, running over to Kat to see for themselves.
Suddenly Kat looked excited. "Hey...could I?" Kat brought both her hands together and made a pinching motion with her thumbs and index fingers, before spreading her hands apart and opening a circular hole, through which a different environment was visible. A place Kat and Alyssa instantly recognized, but which was unfamiliar to Tara and Rachel.
Kat's apartment.
Kat gasped in excitement. "Oh my god! No way!" Kat threw the edges of the hole outwards, making the circle grow until it filled the height of the room, and at the same time throwing it onto a wall. "This is my home dimension! Come on, I'd love to introduce you to my friends!" Kat gestured to Tara, Rachel, and Alyssa as she ran towards the portal. Tara and Rachel quickly followed.
"Wait!" called Alyssa. "We have to at least warn—" Alyssa grumbled as she realized no one was listening.
"I'll keep an eye on the news," she groaned, pointing at Tara's TV to turn it on before walking through the portal herself.
