"You know what?" said Kat. "I'm in another dimension, right?"

"Seems that way," responded Alyssa.

"It would be a real missed opportunity if I didn't look around, see how things are different here," said Kat. "Well, other than what we already know." She smiled to Alyssa.

"Ooh, yeah, definitely!" Alyssa agreed. She placed her hand on Kat's shoulder. "Want to go for a walk together? I'll show you around."

-----

Kat and Alyssa held hands as they walked together. "So, Kat," Alyssa said. "Remember you showed me before how you can change your clothes and your hair and stuff like magic?"

"Well to me it isn't at all magic," laughed Kat. "But yeah, I can see how it would look that way to you. What about it?"

"What else can you change?" asked Alyssa. "People here can't really change anything like that with just their thoughts; they have to do it manually somehow."

"You saw I could change my eye color, right?" Kat blinked a few times, her eyes turning blue, then green, then all the colors of the rainbow at once, before turning back to their usual pink.

"Yeah, I noticed that before," Alyssa said, amazed regardless. "Pretty cool."

"Okay, well I can obviously do that," Kat said. "Let's see...I can also change my skin tone." she said. She closed her eyes and her skin darkened, fading to brown before she opened her eyes. "I can even do more exotic colors," she said, closing her eyes again, as her skin cycled through different colors you wouldn't normally see on human skin, like blue, pink, white, and even shimmering silver, before turning back to her normal color.

Alyssa was impressed. "Ooh, cool," she said.

"Yeah, those other colors took a bit of practice," said Kat. "But it's fun sometimes. Certainly brings attention at a party!"

"Didn't you make your hair longer before?" asked Alyssa. "How long can you make it?"

"That's another thing that takes practice, cause the longer it gets, the farther it has to go from my body," explained Kat. "But me? I can make it pretty long." She closed her eyes and put her hands on her temples, deep in concentration. Before Alyssa's eyes, her hair grew down to her knees, then her feet.

"Can you make it even longer?" asked Alyssa.

"Yeah, a lot," said Kat. She concentrated again, and made her hair grow until it went on for several yards on the ground behind her. "When it's this long generally I like to put it up so I don't accidentally step on it." Concentrating some more, she made her hair lift itself off the ground, and willed it into a massive ponytail, arching behind her back, with two pink stripes running its length. She posed for Alyssa for a few seconds, before she closed her eyes once more and brought her hair back to normal.

"Okay, so you can change your clothes, jewelry, eyes, hair...anything else?" asked Alyssa.

"Yeah, watch this." Kat took on her look of concentration once again. Alyssa didn't notice anything happening for five or six seconds, until suddenly purple and pink cat ears sprouted from her head. Kat bent forward a little and a purple and pink striped cat tail appeared on her body just as suddenly.

"How do I look?" asked Kat, opening her eyes.

"Now I know where you got your name," Alyssa joked.

"Ha ha," Kat laughed. "You know, they say people's preferences are subtly affected by their name, some kind of subconscious ego thing. Maybe that does have something to do with it."

"Maybe!" Alyssa agreed. "So can you make anything you want like that?"

"Depends on what you mean by 'anything'," explained Kat, as she made her extra appendages vanish back into her body. "Can't make anything that does something, it's all just for show. But as far as simple aesthetics go, yeah. Actually some people have been able to but it requires so much practice it's not really worth it."

"What can they do?" asked Alyssa, interested.

"There's this one girl who's pretty famous," started Kat. "She can do all kinds of amazing stuff, like grow extra arms, and she has these beautiful wings that burst from her back that she can glide around on. She can even change her size with enough concentration."

"Ooh, sounds cool!" said Alyssa. "So is that what she's famous for, like putting on shows of what she can do?"

"Yeah," said Kat. "Here, I'll show you." She pulled out her phone.

"Uhh, Kat?" said Alyssa. "I'd be impressed if you could find her on my world's Internet. Besides, I thought you don't have service here."

"Oh, I just need the screen," explained Kat. "I've seen her shows a lot, I know what they're like." Kat handed her phone to Alyssa, then placed a finger on the side and willed herself into it. Kat already had a case on her phone with a design matching her personality, so nothing really changed there. "Watch," came her voice from the speakers, as a video appeared on the screen from Kat's mind.

The video showed a beautiful woman about their age, in a long, flowing, sparkling hot pink and gold dress. Her pink hair was in two large twin tails, curving down to her ankles, her bangs long and parted in the middle, framing her face with gold highlights. Alyssa sat down under a nearby tree as she watched the video. "She's beautiful," she said. "What's her name?"

"Her stage name is Anistasia Lynn," responded Kat's voice, as if she was on speakerphone. "But her fans call her Stacy for short."

In the video, or more accurately the projection from Kat's memory, Anistasia moved elegantly, clearly having a lot of skill as a dancer. She held her hands above her head, smiling and winking at the audience. Arching her elbows to her sides, she pressed her hands together above her head. Slowly bringing her fingers away from each other at first, wiggling her fingers, she threw her arms apart in a flourish, as almost a dozen additional arms fanned out from where her original two were, her dress gaining additional sleeves to accommodate. As the audience applauded, she leapt in the air and did a cartwheel on all of her arms. Holding out two of her hands to her sides, she closed her eyes briefly and concentrated deeply, the tips of her other hands' fingers touching her temples. In each of her hands, a pink ball with a gold star appeared, quickly growing to about the size of a baseball. Lifting an eyebrow, she tossed each ball in the air once, bending her other hands away from her head. She tossed each ball from one hand to another several times, sometimes throwing or reaching across to her other side. With both balls in her backmost hands, she gave them a final toss much higher in the air, and caught them in the same hands. A few seconds later, she gave a twirl, then seductively half-closed her eyes toward the audience, throwing the balls to them. Being a mere projection of her mind, however, the balls quickly faded away in mid-air the same way they appeared. When they did, Stacy made all but two of her arms disappear back into her body and clasped her remaining hands together, as she bowed to her audience.

It wasn't over yet. Anistasia crouched down with her eyes closed, morphing her legs into a large spring. In one instant, she opened her eyes, threw her arms above her head, and released the spring, launching herself high into the air above the stage, the spring quickly turning back into legs.. As she flew backwards, she did a backflip, sitting on a high-up platform when she landed. Smiling to her audience, she held out her arms to her sides, hands straight up with her palms pointing away from her body, and gently jumped off. At the same time, she sprouted the beautiful wings Kat had mentioned before. They were giant pink butterfly-like wings, with the corners spiraling out. Glitter covered the wings, which were decorated with a gold-colored outline, and shimmering gold spiral patterns throughout. Gliding over her audience, Stacy closed her eyes and held her hand out in front of her mouth, blowing what looked like fairy dust over her audience. When she got to the end of the room, she did a 180-degree turn, gliding back to the stage and landing gently on her feet. She bowed once more to her audience, her wings vanishing back into her back as she came back up. As the audience applauded, the video faded out, and Kat jumped out of her phone, which Alyssa handed back to her.

"I love her!" exclaimed Alyssa. "She's amazing!"

"Well of course you'd say that," laughed Kat. "Where you're from nothing remotely like that is even possible." She paused, then added "...not yet at least," smiling.

"Well yeah, it's obviously amazing because of that," said Alyssa. "But even if not, she'd still be amazing. And besides, there's just something about her I really like. I wish I could be a performer who does stuff like her."

"Yeah, I'm not saying I disagree," said Kat. "I've seen a bunch of her shows live, it's great. Actually, come to think of it, that's where I was on my way home from yesterday when I found myself in your world."

"How famous is she?" asked Alyssa.

"Pretty famous," said Kat. "She performs on national TV a lot, at really big events and stuff. She's one of the best." She continued, "Most of the time she just does shows near where she lives though, and those are televised too."

"You say you see her shows a lot, does she live near you?"

"Yeah, actually," said Kat. "When I moved there I didn't even know she lived in the area; I'd say I'm pretty lucky. And she sometimes invites fans who live nearby to her house, which is awesome."

"Really?" said Alyssa, intrigued. She'd never known any celebrities to do anything like that, but it was certainly nice of her. Maybe if she became famous someday she'd do it too, she thought. "You ever been to her house?"

"Yeah, several times," replied Kat. "I've gotten to know her pretty well, she's nice. Now that I think about her she actually kind of reminds me of you a bit."

"Really? How so?"

"I don't know, just something about her general demeanor."

"Hey, wait, I thought you said that stuff took too much practice to be worthwhile," said Alyssa. "Are you sure about that? Being able to grow extra arms and glide like that sounds really useful."

"Why glide when you can fly?" asked Kat with a smile, as she reached into her fanny-pack and pulled out a small, clear box with a propeller that looked like a miniature drone. As she held it in the air, her body vanished into it, the propeller spinning as it hovered where she had previously been holding it. At the same time, its clear casing gained a dark tint, and pink lights lit up on the ends of the propellers, forming a glowing ring in the air. With perfect control, Kat shot high into the air and flew around buildings, impressing Alyssa with her speed. Soon after, Kat's drone returned to its place next to Alyssa, as her human body emerged from the drone, which fell neatly into her extended hand as its color returned to normal. Kat gave it a quick toss and caught it before putting it away.

"Oh wow, that must be so useful," said Alyssa. "I take it you carry that around with you everywhere?"

"Yeah, it's a really useful thing to have," said Kat. Alyssa thought about how the ability to imprint could make the most random object suddenly incredibly useful.

"Wait, if you have that, then why drive?" asked Alyssa.

"Too much wind," said Kat. "Didn't bring it with me yesterday."

"What about extra arms?" asked Alyssa. "That sounds pretty useful."

"I guess it could be if you need to carry a lot of stuff, but it takes so much practice that you're better off just having someone else help you," explained Kat. "Besides, people in my dimension don't use our arms nearly as much as I figure you do. There's tons of stuff that's so much easier with imprinting; you can do so much with it."

As they came to a street corner with a stop sign, Alyssa paused for a second and closed her eyes, placing her hand on the sign.

"What are you doing?" asked Kat.

"What do you think?" answered Alyssa. "Trying to imprint again."

As Alyssa concentrated, Kat got her phone back out. It still didn't have service, but at least the camera didn't need that in order to work. She started recording a video of the sign with Alyssa's hand on it in case anything interesting happened. And sure enough, the stop sign started to ripple, not much but more than before with the couch. Kat continued recording, hopeful something more would happen, but she didn't notice anything else. At least now she had something to show her though!

Alyssa looked somewhat disappointed as she removed her hand from the sign. "Notice anything this time?" asked Alyssa.

Kat didn't say anything, simply showing her the video. "Cool!" Alyssa exclaimed in excitement. "Yeah, you're right, I definitely have potential!"

"Hold on a second," said Kat, thinking she had noticed something in the video she hadn't noticed while she was recording it. It wasn't much, but a tiny spot of light blue appeared on the sign for a fraction of a second. Exactly the color Kat figured her personality would turn things. "Check this out, Lyssi!" said Kat excitedly.

Alyssa moved her head in closer to see the video. Kat put it back a second time, pausing it as the spot appeared.

"...Is that what I think it is??" asked Alyssa, beaming.

"What else would it be?" asked Kat. She was right, Alyssa couldn't really think of anything else that would cause the color to change, even just a tiny spot for a brief amount of time. "I told you you'd get better with practice."

"My turn," said Kat jokingly, as if she wasn't already sure of her ability herself. She placed her hand on the sign, which of course started to ripple instantly as Kat's body was effortlessly sucked in. The sign turned black with pink text, and a pink spiral appeared winding around the pole. "You know, I don't think I've ever been a sign before," said Kat's face as it appeared on the sign. "I feel very authoritative," she laughed.

Just then Alyssa heard a car coming around the corner. "Shh! Lose the face!" she said quietly but urgently.

"How come?" asked Kat. "Oh, I'll ask later," she said, her face fading from the sign.

As the car stopped at the odd-colored sign, the driver seemed to do a double-take, figuring it was the work of unusually-creative vandals. When the car stopped, Kat felt the intense satisfaction of her all-important order being obeyed, her purpose having been fulfilled. Once it was obvious it was safe, the car drove off.

"You can come out now if you want," said Alyssa. Kat exited the sign feet-first, her arms in the air as she landed facing away from it.

"What was the problem?" asked Kat.

"Someone almost saw you!" said Alyssa, as if it should have been obvious. "How do you think someone here would react if they saw a talking stop sign with a face?"

"Yeah, that would be pretty weird," admitted Kat as she laughed. "But what would be the problem? Don't we want to eventually share it with everyone?"

"Yeah, but you never know what'll happen," said Alyssa. "Something like that would draw a crowd; no one's ever seen it before."

"So what?" asked Kat.

"Well at some point you're gonna need to come back out, right?"

"Yeah, your point?"

"You'll never get a chance to do it without anyone seeing, someone will always be watching," explained Alyssa. "What do you think people will do if they see a girl jump out of a sign after she had somehow just been inhabiting it?"

"Well people should get used to it, soon everyone will be doing it."

"Yes, but I'm more concerned for your safety," said Alyssa. "People sometimes act crazy when they see things they think should be impossible. Someone might attack you or capture you demanding your 'secret', not realizing you don't intend on keeping it one. Maybe they'll demand you do keep it a secret from everyone but them." She continued, "There's even some crazy people who would call you a witch, and attack you simply because they're fanatics who think what you can do is somehow inherently evil. Some people think that even our own government would kidnap you to experiment on you or something," she said. "I don't follow those conspiracy theories myself; I don't think the government would do that to an innocent person. But with such a unique, impossible-seeming situation, I still wouldn't risk it."

"Oh," Kat looked a little scared, then grateful. "Well thanks a lot for warning me then!"

"No prob," said Alyssa, putting her arm around Kat's shoulder.

"Hey, Lys?" Kat said, pointing to a nearby building. "Is that one of those clothing stores you were telling me about?"

"Oh yeah, it is!" said Alyssa. "Good eye! Want to check it out?"

"Sure!" replied Kat, excited to see something completely new and unfamiliar to her.
