This story is hopefully the first of a series, and I hope you enjoy it. There is some violence and dramatic stuff. Enjoy.
Prologue
At the edges of the solar system, the first signs of life emerge within an ark class deep space vessel. A stasis pod bulged slightly, then sighed as the wispy white ice vapor escaped. The man within, wearing his hair short and trimmed, and his face showing early wrinkles unusual for someone his age. As the rest of the ice vapors escaped, a console nearby broke the derelict silence, in an automated female voice which would startle anyone had they been awake. "Vitality check, complete. Blood flow restoration, complete. Reanimation, complete."
The man opened his eyes wide, veins slightly bulging around them as he gasped for breath. He kneeled forward, his five-foot-five body completely naked, and gasped long and deep for much needed air. He stepped down into the cold floor, and took a few steps before regaining his composure and opening his closet. "Good morning, Commander," said the computer voice as he calmly got dressed. "We have detected a suitable planet in the system Sol. Our estimated time to arrive is three months, twenty days, five hours…"
"Override," he said hoarsely, his vocal cords unused for a long time. "Remain cloaked, keep your current distance. Are the teleporters functional?"
"Positive, Commander."
"Excellent. Give me the analysis report on this world."
"Yes, Commander. Processing request."
He put on his coat and looked at the holographic display.
"Processing complete. Planet is 73% ocean, 27% land. Civilization: multiple; Religions: multiple; factions: unknown, multiple; overall technology level: unreadable, possible weapons of world-destroying capacity present; overall magical level: unreadable, possible magical cloak and multiple entities present; possibility of self-destruction: inevitable."
He straightened his coat, which had a tidy Supreme Commander Seth engraved on the breast pocket. "Reanimate all troops, and have them ready in ten days."
"Processing request now."
His lips twisted into an amused smile, almost friendly. "Reactivate my nanomachines at maximum power, and transfer full control to me."
"Request complete."
"Are the teleporters ready?" he said as he walked out and down the hall.
"Positive. Teleporters are on standby."
"Excellent!" he said and hit a big button, opening a hatch to reveal what seems to be a thick blue sheet of suspended fluid. "If anyone decides to follow me, don't allow them."
"Yes, Commander." The response came right before he went through the teleporter.
Chapter 1
In the middle of a busy shopping mall, a sudden breeze started up, and slowly intensified as countless trinkets, neglected shopping bags and litter got carried by the wind toward the center of the mall, right on top of a water fountain with a unicorn fountainhead. A soft crackle of electricity shot from the heart of the phenomenon, followed by a series of intensifying crackles and zaps of electricity that started several small fires. The water in the fountain started to evaporate, while the entire fountain melted and lost its form. A blinding burst of energy shot through the mall, shattering all windows and knocking close-by shoppers off their feet. As the flash subsided, a man dressed in an unusual black uniform hovered momentarily, arms partially and lazily stretched from his sides, then gently touched down on the ruined fountain.
Seth looked around, calm and detached, then took a step forward, examining his surroundings. "Well, this is a nice place," he said, a friendly smile forming on his face when his eyes fell on a teenage girl, who was crawling backward to her family, a balding man and a woman who seemed to age well. He moved toward them and offered his hand to the girl, with a warm smile. "Here, let me help."
Her face turned white, but realizing she had nowhere to go, she gave him her hand. He took it and gently pulled her up, and let her go. She ran to her parents, who embraced her and looked quizzingly at the stranger who appeared out of nowhere, then at the mess that used to be a fountain. Following their cue, he turned to look at the fountain that he ruined, and turned back. "Sorry about that," he said cheekily. "What is it you say? Oh yes, I come in peace."
Chapter 2
Seth sat down at the head of a long meeting table, surrounded by generals and high military officials. He took a sip of the coffee they provided him, and frowned, "What do you call this drink?" he spat in disgust.
"It's coffee," replied one of the generals impatiently. "Now where did you say you're from again?"
"Oh, I've come from a world not unlike your own, just probably a century or two ahead of you technologically," he said, slowly moving the cup of coffee away with his fingertips. "Unfortunately, an inevitable war ended up with the total destruction of my home world, and I took command and wish to settle down and prevent the possible destruction of another world."
"You're talking about forces that have comparable military strength. I assure you, we are the strongest nation in the world! Nobody can take us down!" the oldest general, a seasoned veteran of multiple wars, shouted gruffly.
Seth's smile and friendliness melted away, as he pulled his hand back from the now distant coffee cup, and closed his eyes. "This kind of arrogance will make you a lot of enemies, and will be your downfall." He said softly, coldly.
He opened his eyes, which seemed to now be burning with rage, "This kind of arrogance is what brings forward the downfall of worlds!" he stood up with incredible speed and force, sending his chair backward into the wall with a violent skid and thud. He pointed his finger at the offending general. "You should learn to hold your tongue, old man!"
The general stood up, and in turn the rest of the officials on the table stood up. "How dare you—" he was interrupted as Seth blinked out of his position at the other end of the table and appeared behind him, blaster in hand with the barrel at the back of the general's head. He narrowed his eyes. "Don't make an enemy out of me," he whispered, then closed his eyes. "We'll meet again, when you decide to talk again. Don't bring coffee."
He blinked out again, this time with a gust of wind that sent documents and notes flying all over the room.
Chapter 3
Seth arrived at a park, and sat under a tree. He sighed and observed people doing various things. He found a man, following a woman. "Baby, please listen to me!"
"I said, go away!" she said and quickened her pace, but he was faster and grabbed hold of her arm. She turned around and attempted to hit him, but he caught her and chuckled. "Why won't you listen to me?"
She struggled to fight, and managed to connect a kick to his crotch. He doubled over and shouted, "You bitch!" he shouted, and started after her as she turned around to leave. She ran off the paved path into the bushes, and Seth watched as he limped toward her. He sighed and stood up, then heard a scream coming from their direction.
He zoomed at them and stood between the man and the woman, who obviously to him, didn't want this guy on her tail. He stopped a slap halfway down to connection and roughly shoved his palm on the attacker's gut, where a glow started. He looked at him, "The fuck?" he said, confused as he couldn't move. He turned around to the woman. "It's alright. He won't hurt you anymore."
He turned back at the man, who started to melt into grey goo. "Goodbye, troublemaker," he said, then turned around and zoomed away, right before the woman screamed and said, "I'm sorry baby! I'll find some help!"
Seth arrived at a cliff overlooking the city, looking down at the night time city lights, in all their liveliness and intensity. "Well, then. I guess there's a lot for me to do here."
He sighed and zoomed away.
