Island of Change

Episode Two: Sudden Changes

"I guess we should probably introduce you to the rest of the survivors," Lost said. Soon after Megan had disappeared into the tent, they had given the three survivors some water, which they had greedily drank. Now refreshed to a point where their bodies wouldn't simply collapse, they had time to talk.  "A few days after the crash, we were assigned roles, jobs to do while we were here." Lost continued. "Keegan and I, we're the scavengers, the scouts. We explore, we look for fresh water sources, we set traps, and avoid them, etc."

"Wait, avoid traps?" Ryan asked. Neither Lost nor Keegan answered the question.

"Megan is the leader now, she used to be in control of the signal fire," Keegan continued.

"What happened?" Phoenix asked.

"We burned the plane," Keegan said, pointing to the scorched interior. "Once we had scavenged every last bit from the plane that we could, we burned it. All the dead bodies had to go somewhere. We thought that the blaze and the smoke would be big enough to attract some attention… it wasn't. When no one came, we gave up on the fire, and Megan stepped up to be the leader."

"Who was the leader before then?" Mikol asked. Again, neither of them answered.

"Guys! Meeting! We found new people!" Lost shouted. There was a few seconds of silence, then a rush of activity as… creatures rushed out of the tents and swarmed around them.

"Are we rescued?"

"Who are they?"

It took a few minutes for everyone to calm down and for the boat survivors stories to be told. The news that they had not been rescued quieted them.

"Okay, well, until we do get rescued, these three are sticking with us," keegan said. "So, we need to do some intros, okay?"

"All right," A jaguar anthro said. "I'm Andrew, I…"

"She's also Megan's boyfriend," Lost whispered to them.

"I'm right here!" Megan exclaimed, frowning.

"Alex and Grill," Keegan said, pointing to a strange canine anthro and a caracal anthro as they gave a small wave. "They make stuff. Our bows and arrows, tents, stuff like that, they made it."

"I helped," A golden vixen added.

"Right," Lost agreed. "Callum has been helping out pretty much full time now."

"I'm Tobias," A wolf centaur… thing spoke up. "And I help prepare the food, skin it, cut it… it was kinda hard to learn how, but it worked out."

"We don't know what she is," Keegan whispered to the boat survivors. "Sort of a wolf thing. Don't stare, you'll make her feel awkward."

"Question," Ryan said. "Why are most of you naked?"

"Well, clothes don't really fit us anymore," Grill said. "None of us know how to weave, and we couldn't get to most of the luggage on the plane."

"Why not?"

"There is a hatch inside the plane," Andrew admitted. "It goes straight into the cargo area, but it's located in the front of the plane, which was sealed off from the rest in the crash. And most of the doors on the bottom of the plane are either too high or buried."

"You said that eleven people survived the crash," Phoenix said. "We heard about one, and rumours of another. What happened to the third?" There was a tense silence.

"I'm sure you're hungry," Tobias said quickly. She walked forward and took a large chunk of meat, wrapped in tin foil (presumably from the airplane meals) and carried it off. The others followed her and Megan nodded.

"It's getting late," She said. "We'll explain while we eat."

Once the meat had been cooked, the eleven of them sat down around the fire, eating.

"Okay, so the plane crashed, "Keegan started. "We all woke up in different places, some in the plane, some on the beach, some in the jungle. There was this… guy… well, he was a guy. Most of us were guys…"

"Her name was Andrew Von Leland," lost continued. "Leland was a doctor in… what did she call it?"

"Biochemical physics," Keegan said.

"That doesn't exist," Mikol said, confused.

"Yet," Keegan said. "The point is, she experimented. She was a mad scientist. She had created this… giant fire breathing mouse to counteract the stray cat population. I'm not kidding," Keegan said, seeing their reactions. "It nearly killed me on the first day. On the first night, it was an unanimous decision to make Leland the leader, which she was for three months."

"What happened?" Mikol asked. Again, a tense silence. This time, Callum spoke up.

"One of the survivors was Milo. She… he… was no more than ten. When we first crashed, we all thought he was this kid, right? Just a worried kid. Arrogant, yeah, but a kid. I took care of him for the first few months, and… I felt close to him. Trusted him. So, when it happened…"

"We had scavenged most of the supplies out of the parts of the plane we could access," Megan continued. "Except for the front part of the plane and the cockpit, which as Andrew said, was sealed off in the crash. So we all decided it would be a good idea to find a way in. Only two people survived the front section of the plane: Ben and Tobias, and Ben  had been sucked out of the plane in mid-flight."

"I don't remember the crash," Tobias admitted. "It was a normal flight, then next thing I knew, everyone around me is already dead, and I'm alone. I crawled out of a hole in the cockpit window and started changing into this. As far as everyone knew, the cockpit window was the only entrance."

"Ben wanted to get into the front end," Alex said. "His girlfriend had died in the crash, but she figured that if Tobias survived, there might be a chance that she would have as well. Ben fought to get inside the front section of the plane from the start."

"Milo was against the idea, though," Grill explained. "We all thought he just didn't want to lose any of us in there. But we were determined. Callum, Alex, and I built steps and ladders, platforms, to get up to the nose of the plane and into the cockpit. It took the better part of three weeks, but we got in. the night we did, Milo escaped."

"Escaped?" Ryan asked.

"At first, we thought he ran away," Andrew said, producing a pile of papers, brown with wear and water stains. "We found this in the cockpit." Mikol took the papers and shuffled through them.

They were details, a description of what seemed to be a ten year old boy with dark hair… and a list of crimes that the boy had done. Another page delivered instructions to the pilots to surrender the boy to American authorities in L.A. The name of the boy: Milo…

Mikol passed the papers to the others, noting a bolded statement: Passenger is highly unstable, unsafe.</b>

"He fooled all of us," Callum said quietly, once all of them had read the documents. "Every step of the way. And once he knew we would discover who he was, he ran off."

"What happened to him then?" Phoenix asked. At this point, they all stopped.

"Louis had escaped in the crash," Keegan said. "So he was just running around in the jungle. He only seemed to hunt people who were cat-types: me, Grill, Leland…. Most of us here. But Milo… Milo was a lizard-type, Milo was safe. So, he found Louis, and trained him."

"No," Ryan said, shocked.

"Three days after his disappearance, Milo comes riding in on Louis' back like it was a freakin' horse," Alex said bitterly. "Basically gave everyone an ultimatum: either join Milo, or die here. We all refused, 'cause we knew what he had done and what he was capable of, and to prove a point, he let Louis go." The boat survivors looked at each other. They could only imagine the battle…

"Louis cornered Ben against the plane," Grill said. "Bashed her against it several times… then fired a jet of fire at her." A pause. "She had been turned into a cat-girl."

"After Ben's death, Milo called Louis back and said that it was the beginning of the end," Lost said. "Then he disappeared into the jungle. We haven't seen him or Louis since, though we see signs of them sometimes."

"Leland was crushed," Megan said. "Seeing her own creation kill one of her friends like that… it tore her apart." She sighed. "As we burned the plane, Leland took her stuff and left."

"Did she kill herself?" Ryan asked, eyes wide.

"No," Tobias said. "She exiled herself. We've seens signs of her around, too… but we've never been able to find her."

Mitch, Yuma, and Milo sat around the fire, eating some of the fish Milo had caught earlier. Mitch found out rather quickly that he could no longer digest the meat, and so had to resort to eating plants.

"So, how did you get here?" Yuma asked.

"I was born," Milo said sarcastically.

"No, I meant, how did you get to this island?" Yuma rephrased.

"I know that's what you meant, I was trying to be a smartass," Milo replied. "I crashed here on a plane, Oceanic Flight 199." The other two stiffened.

"You survived that?" Mitch whispered. "Everyone thinks you're dead!"

"I'm not surprised," Milo shrugged. "It's been four months."

"Did anyone else survive?" Yuma asked. Milo paused before answering.

"Well… a few others survived the initial crash, yeah," Milo said. "But eventually… they gave up hope. Changed, not just physically, like the three of us, but mentally. It was like… they bacem hopeless, and something happened to them. Something snapped. They became savage. Crazy, even… I fought for my life…" Milo hugged herself, breathing slowly. "I just wanted to go home." There was an uncomfortable silence, broken every so often by a sniffle from Milo. Yuma and Mitch looked at each other and nodded, moving closly to her, slowly on either side.

"It's okay," Mitch said. "You made it out of there, you're safe."

"We'll protect you," Yuma agreed. "We'll get you home."

"Th-thanks," Milo said. "I'm glad I found you…"

Something watched in the trees nearby. Milo looked up silently and stared at where she thought it was. The figure moved, leaving the three alone. Milo continued staring at the trees, a cold, calculating look in her eyes. Neither Mitch nor Yuma noticed this.

Mitch woke up with a start in the middle of the night. Confused, he sat up quietly, not wanting to disturb the others. What was going on? Why had he woken up? Suddenly, he stifled a gasp as he felt like he was being kicked in the stomach. Something was wrong, very, very wrong. He got up, stumbling a bit. He fleetingly noticed that Milo was missing, but that took a backseat as he felt a sharp twist in his spine. Mitch walked into the forest, trying to find somewhere in private to examine himself; something was happening and it didn't feel good.

There was a tightening feeling around his waist, and he felt himself shrink a bit, and he felt the horns shrink back into his head. His throat tightened and he let out a feminine shriek as his abdomen began to expand, four teats forming as an udder grew, sloshing as milk filled the sac. Mitch gripped a nearby tree as he felt his groin stir, his manhood pulling up and disappearing inside him, turning him into a her. Mitch gasped, feeling herself urinate slightly; she wasn't used to this kind of situation, and she wasn't used to the muscles of her body quite yet. Mitch fell to her knees, exhausted from the physical changes.

A few minutes later, she heard a snapping sound in the jungle, and froze. Something gripped her arm and shook her lightly.

"Come on, we've got to go," A female voice said. "I'll help you, but you've got to follow right behind me, okay?" The voice asked. She felt herself being helped up. Mitch turned to face her saviour, but couldn't get a good look in the poor light of the jungle. All she could see was a vague figure in front of her. Mitch followed the figure as she walked away; worried that she would be left behind in the dark jungle. She followed the person for what seemed like hours, eventually stopping in a bamboo forest.

"We're here," The person replied, pushing aside a few broken plants, revealing a hidden entrance. Mitch gasped: inside was a camp, with a small fire, some food, a few water bottles… who was this person? The person stepped into the camp, and Mitch hesitantly followed. What if this was one of the crazy people Milo was talking about earlier? She wondered.

The person turned, and Mitch could see her clearly in the light of the fire now. She was fairly tall, and had fur on her breasts and groin, a cat's tail extending out of her spine. Two cat ears sat atop her head, and her hands and feet had the same characteristics.

"Are you okay?" The cat girl asked, taking a bottle of water and handing it to Mitch. "The first transformation is usually the hardest."

"Y-yeah, I'm fine," Mitch said. "…What's your name?"

"My name is Doctor Andrew von Leland," The woman replied. "I'm one of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 199."
