After doing a favor for some family, I pretty much had to lend my head to them. Though I did not mind as I needed a new head anyways and I know just the place to get what I want. Despite lacking eyes, I mostly relied on my sixth sense that most headless bodies have to get by.

I managed to reach a store called “AniHeads” or a store that sells anime heads. The store had all kinds of anime heads either imported, domesticated, or fanmade. For the type of anime head I wanted, it’s the ones based on the Bang Dream series. The girls look so cute and the quality tends to be surprising. No need to worry about language barriers as this shop does allow the heads to be bilingual.

Despite being a nerdy male with a thick body, just having a cute anime girl head would be funny to have. And it's just an aesthetic. Of course, I’ll borrow back my old head if I need to be in a very professional situation but the point still stands. I want to have a cute head.

I stood by the counter as they got some suggestions ready for me just so I could try some of them out. The person at the counter, from what I could sense, was some lady with a work apron as she recognized who I was based on what I presented with my phone.

“We have been expecting you and have the heads you want ready. Based on the questionnaire you filled out, we will pull out a set of heads and see if you like them. If not, we got more.” the lady said.

The lady went to the back and managed to carry four heads before me. I could sense them looking at me and being a little nervous. Especially since I bet they expected to have a female body taking them. I can’t really blame them though guys with female heads are a thing.

“Come on now, be sure to introduce yourselves.” the lady said.

“Ran Mitake’s head. Vocalist and guitarist of Afterglow.” one of the heads said. Said head had short black hair with one of her bangs dyed red and dark pink eyes. “I’m uh… not sure what to make of this.”

“Um… My name is Tsugumi Hazawa’s head. I play keyboard for Afterglow. While there is a chance that our looks will clash, I hope we get along.” Tsugumi’s head said. The head had brown eyes and a brunette bob cut. While she looked more normal than Ran, there had to be some allure to her.

“I’m Sayo Hikawa’s head, guitarist of Roselia. I had practiced for this introduction for any potential customers and will recite it now.” Sayo’s head said.

“There’s no need for a big intro unless the customer wants it.” the lady from earlier said.

With her limited movement, Sayo’s head looked towards the lady and was surprised. Her light teal hair covered bits of her face in her attempt to turn before facing back at me. The lady did brush it off for Sayo.

“I don’t?” Sayo’s head asked.

“Don’t worry, Sayo. You’ll have your chance if you get bought. You could have a long chat with your new owner.” the head next to Sayo said. The head also had brown hair but it was long and wavy but tied up to a ponytail.

“Oh! It’s my turn! I’m Lisa Imai! Well her head! I play the bass for Roselia! I hope you pick me or any of my friends here!” Lisa’s head said.

I wanted to speak up but I lacked a head. So I decided to pick a random head to put on to be able to talk at all. The first head I had on was Tsugumi’s head. I just need something I can be comfortable with first and get a better look at the others. From what I could sense, she seemed average enough for me to wear for now.

“Wow! Is today my day?” Tsugumi’s head asked as she was lifted up.

After turning her around, I placed her on my neck. The moment we made contact, I felt a strange jolt onto my neck that tickled a bit. In an instant, my ability to see, hear, and talk was immediately restored as I had full control over her head. In this world, our main consciousness is in our bodies and heads tend to act automatically when detached. To the point where they might be different people and for the most part were okay with being taken over. Though we do share memories upon connection so… it’s a bit weird.

“Man, it’s been a while since I have a head.” I said with Tsugumi’s mouth and voice. “I’m only trying her on to have a better look over you three.”

“Here’s a mirror if you like.” The lady on the counter said as she provided a mirror.

From the look of things, Tsugumi looked pretty cute but average. Seemed fitting for my head and people won’t have many complaints over the gender of my head if they pay any attention. Tsugumi’s hair is short enough for people to think that I am male overall. Though I do want to spice things up so maybe not yet. Through careful observation, one could tell that her head was too cute for my body.

“Hmm… who should I try next?” I asked.

“How about me? I know you’d take me over but I do wonder what it's like to have a male body.” Lisa’s head said.

“Sure!” I said as I took Tsugumi’s head off and placed her back on her spot.

“Tsugumi’s head. Are you alright?” Ran’s head asked.

“I’m fine.” Tsugumi’s head. “I saw everything and kind of just relaxed. If he tries something, I’ll take back control.”

Heads could do that if there was enough dissonance or unbalance. At worst, the head can take over if the body does not have enough will or let their guard down. I’ll try to stay on their good side if I know what’s good for me. Especially since some of them are known for their strong wills.

I then picked up Lisa’s head as her neck stump connected to my neck. I felt the jolt of having a head again and having long hair felt odder than I thought. I brushed Lisa’s head to get it out of the way but it felt so good. The hair was so smooth and silky like it was cared for to perfection. I then noticed the coating of makeup on her face or my face. It felt like a lot was sitting there but now I am curious about my looks when looking at the mirror. 

Lisa’s head clearly clashed with my body yet she looked like she was rocking with the look. Her beauty had this charisma that allowed her to make everything she wears look hot. Even with a nerdy and sweaty body like mine. It’s like she was the perfect head!

“Wow! Lisa is amazing!” I said as I looked at the remaining heads. “No offense but I felt like picking her! Sorry for not giving you two a chance.”

“Hmph…” Ran’s head as she tried to hide her disappointment.

“Don’t worry, Ran-chan’s head. We’ll have a chance. I know you got fans!” Tsugumi said.

“That’s great for Imai-san.” Sayo’s head said.

It was clear the two heads felt pointless but I felt a bit bad for them. The Lisa side of my current head wanted to do something about it, trying to influence what I should do. However, I got an idea as I heard her voice in my head.

“Maybe… uh… is there a Roselia deal?” I asked.

“Of course there is bias… but I concede.” Ran’s head said.

“Sorry Ran’s head.” I said.

“Hey, it happens. Maybe you’ll come back for me or I’ll be bought. I just know that I’m not the type to falter.” Ran’s head said.

“That’s my Ran-chan!” Tsugumi’s head said.

“If you cannot afford the Roselia deal, I still have no desire to give up as well.” Sayo’s head said. “And I assume that Imai-san’s head gave you the idea.”

“Yeah.” I said.

“Back in the day when we were new, it’s a deal that lets you get five heads based on bands. While we are all here, that deal tends to not really be a thing anymore.” Tsugumi’s head said.

“At least I tried.” I said.

“Don’t worry for us.” Ran’s head said. “This store takes good care of us and we’re not gonna give up that easily.”

“I’m glad you understand.” I said.

“Thanks to some future Bushiroad events, there might be some steam for people wanting us.” Tsugumi’s head said. “After all, our heads always get popular during those times.”

“Exactly.” Sayo’s head said. “If you want to do us a favor, don’t pity us. We are fighting the big fight everyday to get a new home.”

“Very well… I’ll purchase Lisa’s head and maybe someday I’ll return to give her a companion. Maybe after my next paycheck.” I said.

“I’m looking forward to that.” Ran’s head said.

“Hope you enjoy Lisa’s head.” Tsugumi’s head said.

“Farewell.” Sayo’s head said. “Perhaps we will meet each other again.”

I removed Lisa’s head and went to the other counter to make the purchase. As I carried my new head, Lisa’s head seemed to be in good spirits as she gave me a smirk.

“It would be nice to have Sayo to come along but… I totally get it.” Lisa’s head said. “Money and all.”

I could not talk back since I lacked lips. So I just sort of nodded with my neck stump. I could sense that Lisa’s head got the idea. Sensing that positive energy from her.

“After I’m purchased, you and I are officially partners. I know you are the muscle with some brains but I wanna be the brains too sometimes. Like places we can hang out and all. I know gender differences but I have a keen sense of fashion.” Lisa’s head said.

My new head seemed very cheery and excited to not only be bought but has a to-do list prepared. Granted, being a head in a store means you just sit on a shelf all day. Us bodies are like the only means of them experiencing things or moving around. At the very least, I felt assured that Lisa will be one of the better heads I got in my life. I’ll definitely grab more of her friends to prevent her from being lonely during detach times.

As I placed Lisa’s head next to the cashier, she gave a cute “wow” response as I grabbed my wallet. The lady from before picked Lisa up and scanned the barcode below her neck before removing it. All before handing the head to me as I gave them my debit card. As the purchase was finalized, I placed Lisa’s head on my neck and smiled.
