TF (melting, imprinting, twinning, evaporating)
They weren’t drunk, for once.
Not that they were entirely sober, of course. They’d had a couple of drinks at the neighbourhood bar to get up their courage the good old-fashioned way. (Oddly enough, Julian, the husband of their friend Lexi, had walked in with a couple of guys as they were walking out. It was so weird to see him without her that they almost stopped him to ask what was up.)
Now Karen and Tori were sitting rather nervously, and completely naked, in their living room, staring at the little bottles they’d bought earlier today from the Potion Place.
Some time went by. Then Karen sighed. “Okay, well, we could just sit here all night or …”
Or.
Tori nodded. “Or we could take the Ultimate Potion, the most powerful transformation serum in the world, and, uh transform.”
“Yeah. Well, when you put it like that …”
They continued to sit and stare at the bottles.
“So, the conversation we had last night,” Karen began again.
“Yeah.”
Another pause.
A few weeks ago, to commemorate Karen’s birthday, they’d treated themselves to a night of Ultimate Potion. They’d been drunk, of course. One of the things they’d done was for Tori to turn herself into black coffee, and Karen to turn herself into milk, to make a latte. It had been a silly notion, the kind of things two drunk girls would change themselves into, but it had had an unexpected side effect. Well, perhaps not unexpected. Maybe they should have expected it.
They’d merged.
Tori and Karen’s minds and molecules had mixed together and they found themselves as one combined personality. It had been a blast, surprisingly intimate, and both girls had found themselves wanting to do it again … although not necessarily as coffee.
They’d spoken to Mr Wintergreen, the proprietor of the Potion Place, and he’d suggested using the Ultimate Potion to in effect merge together.
They wanted to do it, but the idea of being so open to each other, to in effect lose their own personalities and become someone else … it was a little nerve-racking, to be honest.
Karen had a sudden burst of resolve. “Fuck it, let’s do it! C’mon my love, these potions aren’t gonna drink themselves!” She grabbed one of the bottles and drank its contents down, quickly followed by Tori.
“Okay, so what did Mr Wintergreen suggest?” Karen asked.
“Um, he said we should start like this,” Tori said. And suddenly she melted. It was like she’d been turned into a candle that burnt down in fast motion.
Karen stared at the pool of pink liquid on the floor. “Tori, is that you???”
A little face appeared in the puddle. “Uh, yeah! Wow, that was a blast! Being a liquid is amazing!”
“It looked pretty amazing. But Tori, we’ve been liquids before.”
“Not like this. Trust me. Oh, I wish we’d videoed it!”
“Oh hell yeah, we should totally do that!” Karen ran into their bedroom and returned with their video camera. She set it up on the table, making sure it had a good view of Tori’s puddle.
Karen waved at the lens. “Hey, folks! Welcome to the best show in town! Yes, just in case you were wondering, that puddle on the floor is my wife. Say hello to the people, Tori!”
“Hey, guys! I’d wave, but … I don’t have any hands …”
“We noticed. Okay then, Operation Merger is in motion. Uh …”
“Step into me.”
“Yeah, you sure it won’t hurt?”
“I’m a puddle, baby! I can’t be hurt!”
“Well, I meant hurt me, but that’s good to know. I guess the trick is to do it in one motion, right? Here goes …”
Karen began to put her foot down in the pink pool. As she did she mentally gave herself the instruction to melt. And she felt herself begin to dissolve.
It happened so quickly that it was over before she knew it. She was human and solid one second, the next liquifying, pouring down into the puddle already there.
As melted Karen met melted Tori, they once again merged, without form, until there was no Karen or Tori but a pool of both girls.
And as the camera recorded it, the pool began to harden, rising, forming a vaguely female shape, until …
“I’m me!” the woman gasped. “I mean, we’re us! I mean … oh … this is amazing! I’m Karen and Tori at once!”
She ran to look in a mirror. Wow, facially she was an almost perfect cross between the two women. Her hair was halfway between Karen’s dark brown and Tori’s dirty blonde. Her eyes were a light green. And her boobs … she guessed she’d gone down a cup size from Karen and a cup size up from Tori. Which seemed about right.
“I guess this is what my children will look like,” she said out loud.
Her mind whirled a bit. She didn’t feel like two people, she felt like one. One who liked both the Pretty Reckless (Karen’s favourite band) and Sara Bareilles (Tori’s fave). A person who liked both cheese dogs and cheesecake.
“I shall name myself … Karetorin,” she said softly.
But now she felt slightly lonely. One thing both Karen and Tori had in common was they loved hanging out together, just being with each other. And Karetorin … she was all alone.
“But wait a minute,” she said out loud. “What am I thinking? I’m full of Ultimate Potion! I can do anything I want … be anything I want! Watch this!”
She seemed to shimmer for a moment, and then burst into two. Two identical women.
“Well, hello there!” one grinned at the other. “Looking good, sister!”
“Hey! You’re not so bad yourself!”
“I’m Karetorin.”
“Oh? Well, I guess that makes me … Torekarin!”
The women grinned at each other, then burst into laughter.
“I like you! You’re crazy!”
“Just like you! Hey, wasn’t melting a gas?”
“Let’s do it again!”
“Sure! Just be sure not to melt in me, or we’ll probably merge again.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
First one, then the other melted, turning themselves into two pink puddles with faces. It felt amazing.
“We’re exact twins now!”
“When weren’t we?”
After a while the girls grew bored (like Karen, they had a short attention span). They reformed themselves and wandered around the house.
“Hey look, it’s us!” said Torekarin, picking up a photo of a laughing Karen and Tori.
“Us?” Karetorin said with a frown. “Not us. Them. While we’re around, Tori and Karen don’t exist.”
“I guess you’re right.” Torekarin put the photo down. “So, what do you want to do now?”
“How about some imprinting fun?” Karitorin walked over to the nearest wall and began to press against it. Slowly she flattened out until she was absorbed into the wall like a kitchen paper sopping up a spill. After a second she slowly pushed her face out.
“Hi! I’m a wall now! Don’t I look cute? Come and join me!”
“Ah, I know something even better!” Torekarin said. She turned and made for a full-length mirror. She pressed against it until she too was sucked up into the reflective surface. She too pushed her face out, marvelling at the way it was reflecting light.
“Get a load of me!” she said. “I’m a mirror! Can you see yourself in me?”
“Woah! That’s cool!” Karitorin stepped out of the wall. “Let me try.”
“Hey, get your own mirror! Don’t push me out!”
“Silly girl, there’s plenty of room for us both.” She pushed herself into the mirror’s surface, then her face appeared below her twin’s.
“See? Told you.”
“Oh, you know what would be really cool?” Torekarin disappeared, only to push her face up underneath her twin’s. The effect, since they had exactly the same features, was a bulked up face that spoke with two voices.
“We are Torekarinkaritorin! We are the mirror twins!”
Excitedly, they left the mirror and began to test themselves out on other objects. The kitchen was a favourite, with one of them becoming the fridge, while the other became the coffee machine.
“I always do like a caffeine hit!”
“And I’ve never been so stuffed with food!”
Then one of them had a bright idea. “Hey, remember how good it was to be soaked up in the garden last time?”
“Yeah! Let’s try it!”
Bursting out of their appliance bodies, they went to the garden. Standing in Tori’s flowerbed, they slowly sank into the soil. This time, they weren’t content to simply become dirt. Now the flowers began to move around the bed until they seemed to make two faces made up of flowers.
“Wahoo! I can’t believe we’ve never tried this before!”
They enjoyed the sun’s rays for a while, but inevitably the sun began to set. Reluctantly they pulled themselves out of the ground.
“Great, now we’re covered in dirt.”
“Time for a bath?”
“I like the way you think, sister!”
“You should.”
The girls went to the bathroom, spying the big tub.
“Should we fill it up?”
“Yes, definitely. With us!”
First one then the other girl stepped into the bath, melting quickly until the tub was full of liquid women.
Neither of the girls was content to simply be liquid. First one bubble broke to the surface as they heated, then another, until quickly the bath was boiling. And as it boiled, it created steam. Less and less of the girls was in the tub, and more and more of them was in the air. Then finally they were all steam and the bath was empty.
That wasn’t all, because the steam began to vanish too, as the girls turned themselves into … air. Just air.
Their molecules hung in the atmosphere.
“I guess the Ultimate Potion will wear off soon and Karen and Tori will be back,” Karitorin said, her voice echoing ghost-like, as if she was somewhere far away.
“Karen and Tori?” echoed her twin. “Who they? Who, in fact, are us?”
“Um, no one?”
“That’s right. There’s no one here at all.”
And as the room darkened the house grew still.
Well, until our heroines popped back into existence when the potion wore off. They broke open a bottle of wine to celebrate their merging.
And yes, they got drunk. But that’s another story.
