TF invisibility
I was complaining about my love life.
Okay, I was complaining about my lack of love life.
“Where,” I asked, and not for the first time, “do you meet a nice girl?”
Moira nodded sympathetically, which was nice of her, since she’d heard this all before. We were sitting having coffee in the break room, as we usually did, and I was raving at her, as I usually did.
“Yeah, Nat, I know, it’s a jungle out there,” she said. “I’ve been with Jilly for three years now and I’m still thankful every day I’m not on the hunt. Lee was telling me about her latest dating disaster the other day, and she said …”
“Lee?” I said, my curiosity piqued. “Who’s Lee?”
“This woman who lives upstairs from me. About your age. Oh, hey! You know what? I should totally introduce you two.”
“She’s gay, though, right?” No point in me pining after more straight girls.
“Oh yeah, she befriended Jilly and I as soon as she moved in. Seeking out the fellow lesbians. But I warn you, she’s a nerd.”
Now I was really intrigued. “Nerdy girls are my favourite. So, what’s she into?”
Moira thought. “Uh, well, she’s always watching Japanese cartoons.”
“Anime, Moira. It’s called anime.”
“And I know she likes that TV show about dragons.”
“Game of Thrones or Real Housewives?”
“Not sure … but I know she reads a lot of comics.”
I took a deep breath. “Okay, Moira, listen up because this is crucial … Marvel or DC?”
“You know what, why don’t you give me your email and I’ll pass it on to her tonight. I mean, you might as well get the info straight from the horses’ mouth.”
I wasn’t sure the fact that Moira was comparing her to a horse was a good sign, but I wrote down my home email and passed it on.
“She doesn’t look like she might be crazy, though?” I said as I handed the sheet of paper over to Moira.
“Nah, she seems pretty normal to me,” she replied.
Which turned out to be totally wrong.
*
I swear I was not sitting at my computer hitting refresh every 30 seconds. I’m not that desperate. It was more like every minute. But eventually something pinged into my inbox.
“Hey! Lee here. Moira, my downstairs neighbour, wants to set us up on a blind date. LOL! Well, I’m game. You couldn’t be worse than some of the folks I’ve dated. Wanna have dinner on Friday? Ruby’s at seven? Just to tell you something about myself, I’m a graphic designer, I like punk (like Against Me! and Gaslight Anthem), I’m a total DC Comics head (Catwoman rules!), and I enjoy vanishing. Let me know!”
She’d sent a pic, a cute redhead with glasses and a cheeky grin that sent thrills through me. Just the way I like ‘em. Plus, Ruby’s was a perfect place for dinner — a couple of blocks from my house, about 10 minutes from Moira’s building. Neutral ground.
I hit reply. “Hi, thanks for the reply. I’m Natasha, I work in retail (but ha you knew that since I work with Moira). I like both the bands you mention but my favourite singer is probably St Vincent. I adore DC (Batwoman is my spirit animal), plus a lot of Image stuff (ever read Wicked and Divine or Sunstone?). I write femslash on DA and maybe I’ll let you read some! Let’s do this! See you Friday!”
I hastily rummaged through my Photos folder for the most flattering pic of myself I could find, and eventually settled on something I was pretty sure wouldn’t make Lee puke, then sent it on.
It only occurred to me later that I’d never asked her about the whole “I enjoy vanishing” thing.
*
I think I’m in love, I thought.
I was so damned nervous that I wound up arriving at the restaurant at least 20 minutes early … to find her doing exactly the same. It turned out to be a good icebreaker, and the time we spent at the bar waiting for our table was even better.
Lee’s photo didn’t do her justice. It made her look cute, but she was actually pretty. Her hair was done up in a messy ponytail, I adored the light sprinkling of freckles over her nose, and the shirt and jeans she was wearing couldn’t hide her curves and her full, firm breasts.
I could tell she enjoyed the little black dress I was wearing too. (I’m femme, sue me.) I’m not model material, but hey, I scrub up okay.
So we liked the look of each other. And then we started talking.
Oh. My. God. This girl was my geek soulmate.
“I totally ship Dany and Yara!”
“Oh God, me too!”
“Poison Ivy and Harley … I mean … it’s obvious, right?”
“Hell yeah!”
“Ally and Lisa should absolutely have a threesome with Anne.”
“Why stop there? Invite Alan in too!”
“Another drink?”
“Hey, why not. But just one, right?”
“So,” I said, “I like your lobes.”
Stay with me. This makes sense. Lee had perfect little holes in her earlobes, about three millimetres wide.
“Thanks,” Lee smiled. “Yeah, I used to have them stretched but I took ‘em out. I thought they’d shrink down but they never quite got there. I still like ‘em, though. I didn’t get cat butt ears.”
“Oh yeah, they’re cute,” I said. “So, why’d you take them out?”
“Well, for the vanishing,” she said.
I blinked. “Oh right, you mentioned you liked that in your email. Uh … is that some kind of Playstation game?”
Forgive me, I’d had a drink or two.
Lee looked at me oddly. “No, it’s TP.”
“Teepee? Like the tent?” I was totally lost now.
“No, transformation potion. Like, changing your body?”
I looked at her. She looked at me.
“Lee,” I said, “what the fuck are you talking about?”
Her face broke out in a grin. “Oh my God, you’re a TF virgin!”
“Shh!” I said. “Not so loud! Not even my best friends know I’m a TF virgin. Uh, so what is that?”
“So,” Lee said, “you’ve never used a transformation potion. So you’re a TF virgin.”
“Okay, until about three minutes ago I didn’t even know there were transformation potions,” I said. “Maybe I’ve lived a very sheltered life.”
“Oh come on. You must have seen some videos on YouTube. Where girls shrink, or turn into kittens, or become boys?”
I vaguely recalled something like that during late night video-watching binges. “Yeah, but that’s not real, right? It’s, like, Photoshop or something.”
Lee smugly shook her head. “Nuh-huh. It’s 100 per cent real. Trust me.”
“Okay, so vanishing, that’s when …”
“I turn invisible,” Lee said matter-of-factly. “I vanish.”
I stared at her for a few seconds. “Really?”
“Really.”
“You’re putting me on.”
“Nope.”
“God.” The idea sent a little tingle through me. “You’re just … there one second and then you’re not?”
“Well, it differs, but … sure.”
I stared at her some more. Then I laughed. “You are putting me on.”
“Maybe I’ll have to demonstrate for you,” she said, grinning. God, that was cute.
“I think you’ll probably have to.”
“Yeah. Hey, excuse me while I go to the bathroom?”
“Sure.” I sat back and watched her rear wiggle in her jeans as she made her way through the back.
God, I thought, it’s dead tonight. There were a few tables full up near the window, but out here it was just us. I idly considered coffee and dessert. This night was going really well, and maybe it would end up in … you know.
“I’d really like to kiss her,” I mumbled to myself.
Which is when the voice came.
“Aw, you’re sweet. I’d like to kiss you too.”
I looked up. Then around. No, I was the only person here.
And then something brushed up against my cheek.
“Argh!” I shot to my feet.
“Whoops! Hey, calm down, Natasha.”
A thought struck me. A horrible, terrible, absolutely captivating thought.
I stared across the table. “Lee … are you … are you invisible???”
Lee’s voice was matter of fact and came out of thin air. “Well, yeah. Hey, I told you I’d have to demonstrate for you.”
“I didn’t think you meant now!” I hissed.
“Well, no time like the present, I say.” Her chair pulled itself out. “So, coffee?”
My brain boggled. “What? No! You can’t have coffee while you’re invisible. You’ll … you’ll freak people out! Starting with me!”
There was a moment of silence. “Natasha, have I done something wrong?” Lee sounded so sad that I stopped what I was doing, which was freaking the fuck out.
I mean, this girl was pretty amazing. I’d known her for about two hours and she already felt like a best friend — maybe more. We’d been getting along great. Did I really want to ruin tonight just because I couldn’t see her body anymore?”
“Nah, Lee, you haven’t done anything wrong,” I said slowly. “I’m just surprised, that’s all. I like you a lot.”
“Yeah!” she said. “So … coffee?”
“Not here,” I said, getting to my feet. “At my place, okay? It’s just around the block.”
“Cool!” Lee said. “So, um, could you do me a favour?”
“Sure, what?”
“Um, could you get my bag from the bathroom? My clothes are in it.”
I stared at her … or rather, at the empty space in front of me.
“Lee, are you naked???”
“Well, sure! I mean, obviously the transformation potion doesn’t change my clothes, just me. That’s why I took my ear tunnels out — they’d just float around in mid-air otherwise.”
I stared.
“Oh, I bet you’ve never got naked on a first date before,” she said.
“Oh no, I have,” I told her. “Just … not in public.”
I flagged a waiter down.
“Bill please.”
“Sure. Where’s your friend?” she said.
“Uh, she had to … vanish.”
Corny and unoriginal. So sue me. Lee thought it was funny.
*
“So, thanks for getting my bag.” Lee’s voice floated cheerfully beside me. “You know, I don’t mind carrying it.”
“Nah, that’s okay,” I said. “It’s not that heavy,” I lied. “Plus, I think a floating bag might startle folks.” That was not a lie.
“Oh, and I swear I’ll give you the money for the bill just as soon as I can get to my purse without drawing attention to myself.”
“How about you pay for the next date?” I suggested.
“Sure, that’s cool.” Pause. “So, uh, you think there’ll be a next date?”
“Oh, absolutely. I can’t wait to see you again … oh … not like that. Or, exactly like that. Or … hey, here’s my building!”
We walked up to my apartment and I unlocked the door, flinging it open.
“Here we are. Home sweet home. Go on in.”
“I already have,” Lee’s voice came from the hallway.
“Oh. Okay.”
*
Fifteen minutes later I saw sitting on the sofa, watching as a coffee mug lifted itself off the table and floated over an armchair. “Mmm, this is good,” Lee said.
My brain was whirring, trying to process so many thoughts and emotions. Like, transformation potions are real! And there’s an invisible woman sitting opposite me! And there’s a naked woman sitting opposite me! And I really like her! And we should date! And go to the comics shop together! But mostly about the nakedness.
The thing is, now I’d had time to process that my blind date for the night had vanished into the air, one emotion kept rising to the top.
That is fucking hot.
I mean, she could make herself invisible. But not just that. It was like, hey, there’s this thing where you can make yourself absolutely disappear. Yeah, I want me some of that!
Would I have the guts to have done that? Probably not.
Yeah, that kind of thrill seeking, derring do … that was fucking hot.
So, to summarise, kiddies: There was an invisible woman in my living room and it was making my panties wet.
I cleared my throat. “Can I … can I ask you some questions?”
A giggle. “Sure, go ahead.”
“So, how long does the potion make you invisible?”
“Depends on the strength and how much you take. I’d say I’ve got at least another couple of hours to go tonight.”
“And do you, like, fade into the air?”
“Again, it depends on how much you take and how strong. Usually I’ll dilute it and then you tend to fade both in and out of invisibility. Tonight, though, I took a full-strength slug and I just popped away.”
“You … popped.”
“Uh-huh. Like a balloon. Just … pop.”
Another giggle. I opened my mouth but words didn’t come.
“And yes, it’s perfectly safe,” Lee added. “And yes, it feels amazing to be invisible, and yeah, it’s totally fun.”
Still no words. Brain, how you let me down.
Lee spoke again, and there was a definite tease in her voice. “So, I’m guessing you’ve never done it with an invisible girl before.”
“Nope. First time for everything.” Oh great. Yeah, that was totally witty.
The coffee mug set itself down on the table. I felt the air around me move. And then …
A kiss.
I closed my eyes. I felt the force of her lips, her tongue. I opened my eyes. Nothing was there.
“Well, that broke the ice,” Lee said. “You want to lead the way?”
“But I can’t see you,” I croaked.
Something took hold of my hand and pressed it against something firm. “That’s a tit. Start there and work down.”
So I did.
*
Eventually we took it to the bedroom. I have to say, making love with an invisible woman isn’t as hard as it sounds. For one thing, Lee is pretty demanding as to what I should do and when. For another, impressions in sheets help a lot. Mostly, though, I’d advise you to just take a stab. Pretty much anything you kiss is an erogenous zone.
*
I awoke the next morning to an empty bed. Or maybe not. Let me check … Nope. Empty.
“Lee?”
I heard footsteps pad down the hallway (how come I hadn’t heard those when she was invisible?) before Lee poked her head around the door.
“Hey, sleepyhead!” she grinned. “I’ve just been making coffee in your kitchen. Hope you don’t mind.”
“Hey, make yourself at home. How did you … whah.”
She’d opened the door fully, so excuse my brain. This was the first time I’d got to see her naked. She didn’t disappoint. I was right about those breasts, by the way.
Lee did a little pirouette. “Like what you see?”
“More like, I can finally see it, miss.” I got out of bed. “So, uh, about last night. I was wondering …”
She kissed me.
She makes a habit of that. It’s damned disarming, I’ll tell you that.
“I had a great night,” she said with a wink. “And I hope to have more great nights with you. For now, though … come and have some coffee.”
*
I was staring again.
God, she really was pretty. She’d borrowed a T-shirt of mine and I was wearing my robe.
I drank more coffee. “Lee, did I have some really high quality drugs last night or did you actually turn invisible?”
Lee giggled. “Nope, no drugs required when you’ve got a vanishing girl. You liked?”
“Liked? Last night blew my mind in 17 languages!” I sipped again.
“Yeah, it’s always fun. So …” and I should have been suspicious thanks to her casual tone, the kind used only by people not being casual. “So, maybe you’d like to try that some time?”
“Turning invisible?” I considered, then drained my coffee mug. “I mean … yeah … yeah. That sounds incredible.”
Lee giggled again and I smiled fondly at her.
“Good,” she said, “because I already put it in your coffee.”
That’s one way to turn that smile upside down. I stared. “You WHAT?!” I screamed.
“Hey, chill, Natasha. You just said you wanted to try it.”
So many feels ran through me in about a fifth of a second. Then I shouted. “Oh! My! GODDESS!!”
I pushed my chair back and ran out of the room.
“Hey! Where you going?”
“To the bathroom!” I shouted excitedly.
To the bathroom mirror, to be precise.
Oh God. Was I going to pop?
My eyes were fixed on my reflection.
“Yep, you definitely want to see this.”
Lee stood behind me, with a cat that ate the canary grin.
“When do I do it, Lee? When do I pop?”
She touched my arm. “No popping for you, princess. I just put a little bit in your coffee, so you’ll probably have a lengthy fade.”
I stared intently. “Oh God, I think it’s happening. It’s happening to me!”
It was like my face was becoming a mist. In no particular hurry, my head was beginning to fade away. My hair just seemed to disappear, then my neck, leaving my face hanging in the air before that too grew misty.
“Yep, you’re definitely going,” Lee said with satisfaction. “Your legs have pretty much disappeared.”
I shot a swift look. Yep, gone. My robe just seemed to be floating in the air. I held up my hands just in time to watch them vanish finger by finger.
And then my face. First my mouth, then my nose, and finally both my eyes evaporated.
I kept watching in the mirror as my mind whirled. “Lee! I’m invisible!”
“Yeah, I know, beautiful. Well, not completely invisible,” she said, eyeing me.
“What do you — oh yeah. The robe.” I reached for the cord but Lee took my hand.
“No, let me,” she whispered. She stood behind me and reached around. Slowly she undid the belt and opened the robe, revealing — nothing. Then with great deliberation she slid my robe off my shoulders, letting it fall to the ground, leaving …
Nothing.
Nothing of me at all.
My nerves were screaming, and it wasn’t from fear.
I felt an arm around my waist. Lee.
“Well,” she whispered. “I guess turnaround is fair play.”
“How did you know where I was?” I said.
“Educated guess. Now, I have some ideas for today I’d like to share with you. Like later me taking some of the potion too, and taking you for a beautiful nude walk in the park. And then later still …”
“What?”
And suddenly my little nerdy girl looked shy. “Um, maybe we could have another date? I owe you dinner, you know.”
“I think that can be arranged. So that leaves …”
“Now. And maybe there’s something you can help me with.”
“Like what?”
“Well …” Oh that cute grin again. I couldn’t wait to kiss those lips. “I’ve never made love with an invisible woman, and I hear you have some experience in that line.”
“Hmm. Well, they say there’s nothing like hands-on experience.”
And the experience was indeed very hands-on.
