The life of a top scientist wasn’t an easy one. But whenever Jim felt he was getting stressed, he had the perfect solution. He used some of the Ultimate Potion his beautiful wife had helped to create, and became a fish.
The fishbowl was a chill place. Nothing to do, nothing to see. Just kick back and relax.
As Jim swam, he could hear Gena and her crazy friends in the kitchen. They had a somewhat different way to relax.
“I can’t believe we’ve never been breakfast cereals before!”
“I know! It feels so good!”
“Hee hee! Look at me! I’m Captain Crunch!”
“I’m Lucky Charms!”
“I’m a bowl of muesli!”
“Oh, nice choice, Lexi.”
Jim swam up. He swam down. He swam to the left. He swam to the right. OK, that was enough exercise for a while.
“Look, guys! I’m an egg! Come and join me in the frypan, Lexi!”
“OK, but nobody eat me.”
“Gena! Can you scramble us together? That would be amazing!”
“Sure, Caroline. Let me get a spoon.”
Jim swam to the top of the fishbowl, and lazily floated. Idly he wondered how long it would be before Caroline wanted to be something really big.
“Ooh! Lexi! We’re all smooshed up together!”
“Oh God! I can’t tell where I start and you end!”
“Wow, you two really smell delicious.”
“Gena, put that spoon down now, or I swear I’m gonna turn into poison.”
“Just a little taste?”
Hey! Was that a new piece of coral down on the bottom of the bowl? Jim swam down to investigate.
“Guys! I wanna be ravioli! One of you needs to come and be my filling!”
“Ooh! I wanna be veal!”
“I want to be cheese!”
“OK, here goes … ooh, I’m covering you both and dividing into smaller pieces!”
Nah, it was just a piece of the old coral. He just hadn’t seen it in a while.
“Let’s turn into flowers now!”
“Sure! There’s never enough plant transformations!”
“I’ll be the pot!”
“Thanks, Lexi. I wanna be an orchid.”
“Oh, Gena! You’re so pretty like that!”
“That’s so sweet, Caroline. Now come and be an orchid next to me.”
The next time he went past the aquarium in the mall, he'd should investigate buying a decorative little house for the bowl. Or maybe a fake floating diver. That would be fun.
“You guys wanna go play in the hot tub?”
“Just as long as there’s nothing gay about it.”
“Oh, Lexi, what could be gay about three women getting into a hot tub, turning into bubble bath together and then popping?”
“You’re right, Gena. I don’t know what I was thinking.”
Jim swam slowly around in circles for a while. He hoped his wife remembered to put in some fish food at lunchtime.
“Guys! I want to be something really big!”
“Caroline, NO!”
Crash.
Maybe next time he should be an ant, Jim decided. The walls of his ant farm were so much thicker and cut out way more of the noise.
“I can dry everything, Gena. I’ll just turn into a space heater.”
“Oh, you were just dying to do that one, weren’t you?”
