I love a collection.
The difference between a "hoard" and "collection" is display. The way you show something off makes all the difference. Vac-sealed and rubberized and nearly immobile is one way. (Some would say a favorite way.)
But hardly the only way. Art is about the story behind it, the context, the creation. For instance, the confusion that Number 20 feels when it wakes up.
Observe the way it touches itself. Gropes itself. Feels up its rubber-sealed body with its rubberized hands. Explores its new fate as a dolly, as an objet d'art. The way it notices some strategic additions to its suit, that set it apart from the rest of my gallery.
Listen. Don't press your ear up against the glass, you'll be ejected without any fun. Listen closely. Listen to the squeaks it makes. Do you hear mewls? The sound of surprise? Anger? Delight? Tell me what you hear.
Art isn't just the object. It's not simply the sight. It's the sound, the touch, the feeling, the feelings it creates when it sets your mind racing. What comes to
your mind for this piece? 🖤
