Chapter 5 – Like mother, like daughter

In a matter of weeks, Jazmyn’s manager Jay had resigned, her assistant manager Madison had been promoted, Jazmyn had been made the new assistant manager, and she was back to working full-time again.  The only downside of being the assistant manager was that her consistent work schedule was a thing of the past.  Now, she had to work evenings and weekends, not all the time, but periodically.

As Jazmyn got further into the second trimester of her pregnancy, she realized that things were changing.  Her boobs were getting bigger and more erogenous, she was getting horny more frequently and more intensely, and her belly had expanding enough that her pants and skirts were all tight in the waist.  She was quickly going to need new clothes, and she needed to start telling people she was expecting, because her bump would start being obvious very soon, if it wasn’t already.

Victor, of course, was very much aware of and enjoying these changes.  When Jazmyn mentioned that she needed larger bras and maternity outfits, just hearing her say that got him hard.  He decided to go shopping with her and help her pick some things out.

Jazmyn first texted the news about her pregnancy to all eleven of her siblings and her grandparents.  Her parents already knew, having learned of it along with Victor on the day of the tornado.  She also had Victor share the news with his parents and anyone else he wanted to tell before it became public.

She then thought perhaps the best way to announce her pregnancy to the rest of the world was to post something to that effect on her social media accounts.  But she realized she had badly neglected them over the past six months or so, with all the other things happening in her life taking precedence.  She’d never announced her marriage to Victor or her accident and resulting amputations, let alone her pregnancy or her promotion.  She decided to make a video and announce everything all at once.

“Hi, everyone, this is Jazmyn.  I’ve had a lot of big changes in my life in recent months and I’ve been super busy and haven’t had a chance to post much, so I need to get you all caught up.  Hold on to your hats, because it’s going to be a wild ride!

“First, I married Victor Alvarez, the most wonderful man ever, back in April.  We’d only been engaged for a year, but that year just seemed like it dragged on forever.  I’m so glad I’m now officially his wife.  I’ve changed my last name to his, so I’m going by Jazmyn Alvarez now.  I’ve left my maiden name Farris as my middle name on my social media accounts only so people can still find me.

“Come here, please, Victor”, she said to someone off-camera, and Victor then came in view, sat next to her and kissed her and said hello to the audience.  “Isn’t he just the most handsome thing?” Jazmyn said rhetorically.  “And he’s so good to me, too!  Okay, Victor, you can go now.  Thanks.”  Victor got up and moved back off-camera.

“Second, physically I’m a much different person now.  I’ve lost a lot of weight, but not in the way you’re thinking.  In June, a tornado hit my town and heavily damaged a shopping center, among other things.  I happened to be in one of the affected stores at the time.  I was severely injured, and I had to have both of my legs amputated in order to save my life.”  Jazmyn pushed her wheelchair back away from the camera so that her missing legs could be seen.

“So this is the new me.  I can’t wear prosthetic legs, because there’s not enough of my own legs left to attach them to, so I mostly get around in a wheelchair.  I can also use a skateboard or walk on my hands if need be.  Now you may be thinking that I seem to have a surprisingly good attitude about such a life-changing, permanent injury, and you’re right; I do.  I’ve accepted my fate and I’m okay with being this way.  I’m determined to not let this stop me from doing anything I want, and so far it hasn’t.  Also, I don’t want anyone’s pity.  If anything, I hope you’ll admire my resilience and determination.

“Third, Victor and I are expecting a baby!  I was already about six weeks pregnant when I lost my legs in the tornado.  Of course we were all very concerned that the baby might have been injured, too, but I’m now at about 17 weeks and everything is progressing normally.  My due date is in late January.  I’ll find out the baby’s sex in a little over a week.  We couldn’t be more thrilled!

“And fourth, I just got promoted at work.  I’ve worked in a coffee shop for five years now, ever since I graduated from high school, and I was a shift leader.  But now I’m the new assistant manager of the place, and I’m excited to be given this opportunity.  I’m planning to continue to work after the baby is born.

“Do you think that’s enough excitement for just a few months?  I certainly do.  I’m hoping my life will be boring for a while so I can catch my breath.  Reply in the comments.  Bye!”

Jazmyn’s video received an incredible outpouring of well wishes and affirmation from her many friends, which made her very happy.  Quite a few people asked her to post videos of her doing things that normally required legs but which she’d found another way to do without them.  She considered that and thought such videos might be inspiring to others, and made a note to create and post a few of them.

The following week was Jazmyn’s ultrasound appointment, to which Victor accompanied her.  At this point the baby was sufficiently developed that the sex could usually be readily discerned, and they were excited to find out whether they were having a girl or a boy.

The ultrasound technician welcomed them and made them feel at ease.  They briefly talked about Jazmyn’s leg amputations, and then the tech had her lay down on the table.  She applied the clear gel Jazmyn’s belly, turned on the equipment, and began running the scanning device over her belly.  Suddenly, the technician’s smile disappeared, and she stared at her screen intently as she continued to move the scanning device.  Jazmyn asked her if everything was okay, but she didn’t respond.  Instead, she excused herself and left the room.  Jazmyn and Victor looked at each other apprehensively, but all they could do was wait.

The tech returned with Dr. Parker, the Ob/Gyn.  The tech appeared to be visibly upset.  Dr. Parker then looked intently at the screen as he moved the scanning device around.  He did this for a good minute or two, and then turned and faced the parents to be.  He didn’t seem upset or concerned, but he did seem to be quite sad.

“First of all, congratulations to you both.  You’re going to have a baby girl.  Now, there’s no easy way to say this, and it’s the strangest coincidence I’ve ever seen,” he said.  Jazmyn and Victor again exchanged a glance, this time of concern, and they instinctively reached for each other’s hand.  “It’s very clear that your baby girl has no legs.  Well, she does have very short leg stumps, but that’s all.  About like you have, mom; maybe a little shorter” he said as he looked towards Jazmyn’s stumps. “Otherwise, though, she appears to be perfectly healthy.”

Victor said to him, “Jazmyn’s legs were only amputated a few months ago.  No one in either of our families was born with missing limbs.  It can’t be hereditary.  How could this have possibly happened?”

The doctor answered, “As I said, it’s a very strange coincidence, nothing more.  Now it does happen from time to time that babies fail to grow some or all of their limbs, or they’re only partially developed.  Usually there’s no known reason; it’s just one of those things that happens sometimes.”

Then the doctor asked Jazmyn, “You were already pregnant when your legs were amputated, right?  How many weeks along were you then?”

“About six weeks,” Jazmyn replied.

“I suspected as much,” said Dr. Parker.  “That’s the point where the limbs begin to sprout from the embryo’s body.  I would guess that something related to either the injury or treatment somehow interrupted that process at the crucial point where the legs were beginning to form.  Perhaps the severity of the injury sent a flood of natural chemicals to the embryo, or toxins from the necrosis passed to the embryo, or possibly one of the drugs you were given either on the scene or in the hospital somehow stopped them from growing any further.  Or some combination of those things.  There’s no way we’ll ever know exactly.”

“How does she have arms, then?” Jazmyn asked.

“Good question,” the doctor replied.  “The arms and legs don’t necessarily begin to develop at precisely the same time.  One could be slightly ahead of or behind the other.  It would seem that when the arms began to develop, the condition that stopped the growth of the legs wasn’t present.”

They all just looked at each other as Jazmyn and Victor tried to process this news.  The technician appeared to be on the verge of tears.  “Well, I guess if she was meant to be born without legs, she at least will have a role model to learn from,” Jazmyn said.  “I refuse to think of my lack of legs as a disability, or to let them keep me from doing anything I want to do, and I’ll teach her to be the same way.  She’ll be unstoppable; you’ll see,” Jazmyn said with great determination in her voice.

At this point, the technician completely lost her composure and began crying, and that in turn caused Jazmyn to start crying as well.  Not from sadness, but from the combination of intense emotions everyone in the room was feeling.  Jazmyn’s determination was inspirational.  “I can’t believe how much I already love her!” she felt compelled to add.

“That’s the spirit, mom,” said Dr. Parker, himself clearly emotional as well.  “I know you’ll both do great, and I look forward to following your little girl’s progress in life, because I already know she’ll go on to do great things.”  That just made Jazmyn cry harder as she simultaneously smiled from ear to ear.  Tears began running down Victor’s cheeks as he also smiled broadly.  He was incredibly proud of Jazmyn and already incredibly proud of what their unborn baby girl would someday accomplish.

Chapter 6 – First fight

On the drive home from the ultrasound appointment, Jazmyn asked Victor, “How are we ever going to explain this to everyone?  It seems so unbelievable even to me.  People will think we’re delusional, or they’ll think we somehow caused this, or I don’t know what.  I bet some will be stupid enough to think that all of our kids will be born legless because I am.”

“We don’t have to tell them anything, at least not yet,” replied Victor.  “We don’t even have to reveal the baby’s sex if we don’t want to.  I mean, I have no objection to announcing we’re having a girl, but my point is, nothing says we have to.  So let’s just keep the birth defect to ourselves until we figure out a strategy.”

That last sentence immediately got Jazmyn’s hackles up.  “I don’t want to hear the words ‘birth defect’ ever come out of your mouth again, Victor,” she said with great indignation as she shot daggers at him with her eyes.  “Our daughter is not defective, and don’t you ever forget it.”  She knew she had crossed a huge line telling her Dom what to do, especially with such an attitude, but she didn’t care.  She’d take whatever punishment was coming to her.  “And neither am I, for that matter,” she added as an afterthought.  Then she started crying again, and she folded her arms and looked down, straight in front of her.

Victor didn’t know how to react to that outburst.  She was right of course, but a sub simply does not talk to her Dom that way, no matter what.  Before he could respond, Jazmyn spoke again, very softly and without looking up.  “I know I shouldn’t have spoken to you that way.  I’m sorry for how I said it, but I’m not sorry for what I said.  I know I need to be punished, so do whatever you feel you must.”  She managed to suppress any more audible crying, but tears continued to run down her cheeks, and she blew her nose several times.  Did Victor really think she was defective?, she wondered.  Was she the object of his pity?  Would their daughter be?  They rode the rest of the way home in silence.

When they got home, she left the wheelchair in the car and rapidly walked on her hands into the building.  By the time Victor got the wheelchair out, she was way ahead of him, and she ignored him when he called out to her.  Her body language made it very clear that she was deeply hurt.  She took the elevator up alone, forcing him to wait until it returned to the lobby.  Once inside the apartment, she went straight to the bathroom, locked the door, and just sobbed for the longest time.

It was Jazmyn’s day off, but Victor had to get back to work and didn’t have time to deal with this at the time.  He closed the front door hard behind him as he went, not because he was angry, but so that she could hear that he had left.  Victor was torn.  He knew he’d screwed up and that she had every right to be angry at him.  On the other hand, it was unacceptable that she had admonished him like that.  He had to figure out what to do about both issues.

On the way home from work, he stopped at a florist shop and bought a flower arrangement.  At the apartment building, he saw that Jazmyn’s minivan was gone.  Not a good sign.  He went up to the apartment and saw that she’d cooked him dinner and left it on the stove for him, with the burners turned off, of course.  That was a mixed signal.  He tried calling her but she didn’t pick up, and then texting her, but she didn’t respond.

He left dinner on the stove, took the flowers with him and went looking for her.  She wasn’t at work, but he didn’t really think she would be there; it was on the way to her parents’ house so he figured he might as well check.  However, her van wasn’t at her parents’, either.  Now he needed to think about where else she might have gone, and pulled over to consider it.  Maybe a co-worker’s place?  Maybe her old apartment where her ex-roommates still lived?  Nah, she wasn’t close enough to any of them.  Her brother Ian’s place?  Yeah, that had to be it.

Victor drove to Ian’s and there was the minivan parked outside.  He took the flowers and knocked on the door.  Ian’s husband Julian answered.  Before Victor could say a word, Julian just said, “She doesn’t want to see you right now, Victor.”

Victor answered, “I don’t care,” and moved toward the door anyway.  Julian had to decide whether to challenge him or let him pass.  Then he remembered that Victor was a former Marine and could probably kill him with his bare hands ten different ways.  He stepped aside.

Victor entered the living room, and there was Jazmyn sitting on the sofa next to her brother.  He’d obviously interrupted their conversation.  “Would you excuse us please, Ian?” Victor asked politely.

“Certainly,” said Ian, and he and Julian went back to the bedroom and closed the door behind them.

“I don’t want to talk to you, Victor,” Jazmyn said without looking up at him.

“That’s okay,” he replied.  “You can just listen.  These are for you,” he said as he sat down next to her and offered her the flowers.  But she didn’t unfold her arms which were crossed in front of her.  “I’ll just set them here on the table for now,” he said.

Victor continued as he looked her in the face.  “I’m very sorry about my poor choice of words.  I just said it without thinking, but I didn’t mean anything by it, I promise.  I’ll never say it again, ever.  Please forgive me.”  He tried to hold her hand, but she pulled away.

“Is that how you think of me?” Jazmyn asked.  “Defective?”

“Oh, gosh no,” Victor replied.  “Not for a second.  If anything, your missing legs are an enhancement.”

“Why, because you can f**k me deeper now?” she asked with disgust.

“Well, I’ll admit, that’s a nice bonus, but it’s not why I said it.  Ever since you lost your legs, you’ve had something to prove to the world.  You’re more energized, more determined, more focused.  You’re like the old Jazmyn on steroids.  Jazmyn 2.0.”

For the first time, she looked at him and they made eye contact. “You really think so?” she asked.

“Yes, really, or I wouldn’t have said it,” he replied.  He reached for her hand again, and this time she didn’t resist.  “Can we go home now?”  Victor asked his wife.

“Yes, let’s,” was her reply.

Victor pushed the wheelchair over to the sofa so Jazmyn could transfer herself onto it.  Then he knocked on the bedroom door.  “We’re leaving now,” he said.  “Both of us.  Thanks for letting us use your living room.”

Ian opened the door, and he called out to Jazmyn. “Jazzie, you okay now?”  He wasn’t going to let her leave if she weren’t.  He’d stand up to Victor if he had to, to protect his sister.

By then, she’d gotten into her chair and wheeled to the hallway where he could see her.  “Yes, I’m fine,” she said, in much better spirits.  “Thanks for letting me hang out with you for a while.  You, too, Julian.”

“Okay, ‘bye guys,” said Ian in reply.  “I’d say let’s do it again sometime, but how about under better circumstances?”

The two drove home separately, but they went up the elevator together.  They fixed their plates from the dinner Jazmyn had prepared, reheated them in the microwave, and ate dinner together.  “Thanks for making me dinner, even when you were mad at me,” Victor said.

“Thanks for not complaining about it being cold,” Jazmyn said in reply.

“Now it’s my turn to apologize,” she said.  “I had no right to speak to you the way I did.  I know better than that.  I blew things way out of proportion, and I was completely disrespectful to you.  There is no excuse for my behavior, and I’m truly sorry.  Will you forgive me?”

“I forgive you, Beloved,” replied Victor.

“Thank you, my Lover” said Jazmyn.  “But I still expect to be punished.  There must be consequences for my outburst.”

“I’ve been thinking about that,” said Victor.  “I’ve come to the conclusion that my offense was as least as bad yours, and so there will be no punishment.  That’s why I didn’t come to you empty-handed,” he said, referring to the flowers.  “I realize I said something deeply offensive at a time when you were already very emotional.  It was my insensitivity in the first place that triggered your reaction.  Offsetting penalties; replay the down.”

“Replay the down?” asked Jazmyn, not understanding.

“Football terminology,” said Victor.  “It means we forget this happened.  We go back to before we both messed up and we go forward from there, trying not to make any mistakes this time around.”

“I’d like that,” said Jazmyn in reply.  “This was our first fight; I want it to also be our last.”  But the good thing, they discovered, was that make-up sex was everything they’d heard it was.

When Jazmyn was at Ian’s, she’d told him and Julian the whole story of what had happened that day, so they were the only ones who knew about her unborn baby having no legs.  She’d sworn them to secrecy until she was ready to make that information public.  That night in bed, Julian said to Ian, “You know, we really dodged a bullet.  If Jazmyn had decided to have our baby before her own, that could’ve been ours in her womb when that tornado hit, and then we’d be the ones raising a legless kid.”

Ian replied, “That would’ve been incredibly difficult, emotionally, I mean.  But Jazmyn seems up for the job, almost like she’s looking forward to it.  It’s amazing how resilient she is.  That little baby probably couldn’t have chosen a better mother.”

Chapter 7 – Sharing the news

Jazmyn really, really liked the way it felt to be pregnant, just as she always knew she would.  As the weeks and months progressed, Jazmyn’s belly obviously continued to grow, but so did her boobs and her sex drive.  She loved how her baby bump protruded more and more and how hard it was.  She loved it even more when she began to be able to feel the baby move inside her.  It was a profound experience, to have created new life and to be able to feel it on the inside. When she didn’t need both of her hands for something, she almost always had at least one of them resting on her bump.

She also loved her new, jumbo-sized breasts.  She loved how jiggly they now were, and how they’d overflowed her bra as they repeatedly outgrew a series of larger and larger cupped bras.  They were more erogenous than before, especially the nipples.  Victor was also increasingly turned on by Jazmyn’s growing belly and boobs; it seemed that he could hardly keep his eyes and his hands off of them, and she loved the attention.  It didn’t take much to get her horny now, and vanilla sex orgasms were increasingly easy to achieve and more satisfying.

Jazmyn’s mother Bryana had been much the same way; her boobs grew quite a bit during her pregnancies, especially the first few, and didn’t shrink back much in between, and she’d been pretty constantly horny.

But Jazmyn and Victor both also had plenty of fun when he’d command her to orgasm, because if she were already moderately aroused, she was now unable to keep from doing so.  He could now give her endless orgasms if he chose to.  He was also working on training her to become horny on command, with the goal being that he could then get her from not aroused at all to orgasming with just two commands.

Whenever they began bondage play, Victor now had Jazmyn put on a large metal collar, specially designed to fit on top of her eternity collar, as well as metal wrist shackles.  Both come with large rings meant for attaching restraints as well as locks requiring a key to open.  They wouldn’t always use the collar or shackles in their sessions, but she was to always wear them just in case.  Now, just the act of putting them on got Jazmyn turned on and juicy.  Sometimes Victor would have her put them on and leave them on even when they weren’t in the bedroom, just because he liked seeing her horny.  Jazmyn didn’t mind; she liked being horny, too.  When Victor knew she was, out of the blue he’d periodically command her to orgasm, and that was always good.  Sometimes she’d even put them on without being told to, just in the hope that he’d give the command.  But they locked on without needing a key, and Victor had the only key, so once they were on they stayed on until he decided otherwise.

The couple began thinking about names for their yet-to-be-born daughter.  Victor was of a strong opinion that he wanted obviously Spanish names for his daughters and names that were common and spelled the same in both Spanish and English for his sons.  His rationale was that he wanted his daughters’ heritage to be evident even if they married Anglos and took on non-Hispanic surnames; his sons would always have a Hispanic surname, but it would be easier for them in both Anglo and Latino circles if their first names were common and easily pronounceable.

Jazmyn began researching the meanings of Spanish girls’ names.  She wanted a name or names that meant ‘strong’ or ‘brave’ or ‘fearless’ or something along those lines.  She found numerous sources that stated that Valeria meant ‘strong and brave’ and Valentina meant ‘strong and healthy’.  Bernadina meant ‘brave’ and Luisa meant ‘warrior’.  She ran these names as well as a few others by Victor to get his opinion.  He especially liked both Valeria and Valentina since they shared their first letter with his name.  He didn’t want to use Victoria, however, which would be much closer to his own name, because he wanted to name his firstborn son Victor, Jr., and also it wasn’t obviously Spanish.  When Jazmyn asked him what middle names he liked, he told her only one name would possibly do, and it was not up for debate:  Jasmín, the Spanish version of her own name.  Jazmyn was deeply flattered he felt that way.

Jazmyn mulled over the two possibilities, Valeria Jasmín Alvarez or Valentina Jasmín Alvarez.  She liked that Valeria was close to the Anglo name Valerie, but she liked that Valentina was close to the word ‘valentine’.  She thought of what nickname or shortened version of those names that her daughter might want to use.  Val would work in both cases, but Val Alvarez sounded like a stutter.  With Valeria, she could choose to go by Valerie if she wanted to.  Valentina might want to use Tina as a nickname, she supposed.  Ultimately, she settled on Valeria, and Victor gave his blessing to her choice.

Especially now that they had a name picked out, it was time to announce the baby’s sex, which everyone had been incessantly asking about.  But they both realized it was also time to make public her, well, her enhancement, as Victor had put it.  They also knew they had to be very careful about what they said and how they said it.  They didn’t want to come across as the least bit concerned or resentful or even resigned, but on the other hand, it wouldn’t do to appear to be pleased about it either.  They’d need to be matter-of-fact about it and at the same time convey a sense of confidence and hopefulness.

They decided to make another video similar to the one where Jazmyn had announced she was pregnant, among other things.  But again, they needed to give their closest family members advance warning.  They arranged to meet with Jazmyn’s parents and grandparents to share the news with them in person.  There were a lot of tears and hugging.

It wasn’t lost on any of them that there were now three or four generations of women directly impacted by at least partial limblessness, depending on if you counted Jazmyn’s grandmother who wanted to become limbless but never did.  Her mother Bryana who did become voluntarily limbless; Jazmyn herself who considered and rejected becoming voluntarily legless, but then ended up losing both legs in a tragic accident that she couldn’t possibly have anticipated; and now her daughter who would soon be born without legs, apparently also as a result of the same accident.

Jazmyn’s grandmother said out loud what they all were thinking, that it was almost as if there were some kind of curse placed on the family.  Then Grandma said through tears, “If only I hadn’t wished in my heart of hearts to be limbless myself, maybe none of this would have happened to the rest of you.”

“Grandma, that’s crazy talk,” Jazmyn said while also crying.  “I know Mama’s never regretted having her limbs removed, and her life has been amazing because she did.  And I’m glad my legs are gone.  Having to live without them has already made me a stronger person than I ever would have been otherwise, and now I’ll have this special bond with my own daughter by having this in common with her.  It may seem like a family curse, but really, I think it’s a blessing masquerading as a curse.”

Mama Bryana spoke up.  “I think Jazzie’s onto something, Mom.  If your wish somehow caused the rest of this, and that’s a huge ‘if’, then I agree that it may very well have been, and still is, a blessing in disguise.  I know she’s wondered whether just considering her own voluntary amputations had somehow caused her accident, but it sounds like she’s moved past that idea, or at least past feeling guilty about it.  So let’s have no more regrets and no more self-blaming and no self-pity.  It’s clear to me, and I think Jazzie, too, that this was inevitable; it was our destiny, but it’s what we do with it that matters.

“On that same train of thought, I have to say how incredibly proud I am of you, Jazzie.  I chose this life for myself.  You didn’t choose this for yourself or your baby, but your attitude about this whole thing is nothing short of admirable.  I’m sure you’re only beginning to discover and make use of the inner strength you never knew you had.”

“Oh Mama, I love you so much!” Jazmyn said through tears as she wheeled herself over to her mother to hug her.

Then Grandma said through her own tears, “I love both of you so much!” as she got up to join the hug.

The next day, Victor and Jazmyn video called his parents and shared the news with them.  Victor’s mother couldn’t stop crying.  It was one thing for an adult to lose her legs, but for a newborn baby, her own granddaughter, never to have had them at all was just heartbreaking to her.  Both Victor and Jazmyn said everything they could think of to help her not see it as a devastating tragedy to no avail.

Then Victor’s mother, aware of Mama Bryana being completely limbless from having met her at their wedding, brought up the same idea of Jazmyn’s family being cursed.  As she said this, she made the Catholic sign of the cross, as if that were going to ward off evil spirits.  Jazmyn made all of the same points that she had with her own family the night before, that she thought it was really a blessing in disguise, but Victor’s mother would have none of it.  It was clear they weren’t going to dissuade her from this line of reasoning.

Victor then decided they should also talk to Hector and Natalie, his brother and sister-in-law, and fill them in not only about baby Valeria, but also about the conversation they’d just had with Victor’s and Hector’s parents.  Both Hector and Natalie admired Victor’s and Jazmyn’s positive attitude about the whole situation and told them that they’d be great parents to little Valeria and that she would be an inspiration to them all.

After that, both Victor and Jazmyn sent out a mass text to their other siblings and close friends that they’d be posting a video soon where they’d reveal their baby’s sex, name, and other important information they’d want to know about.

“Hi, everyone, this is Jazmyn along with Victor with an update about our baby.  I’m now at the end of my second trimester at 26 weeks, and the baby continues to grow and has a strong heartbeat.  Victor and I are so excited to be on this journey together.

“Now, everyone’s been asking us about whether we’re having a boy or a girl.  We actually found out at my 18 week checkup, and to be honest, we’ve procrastinated about announcing it.”  Jazmyn held up the sonogram image but not close enough to the camera that any details could be discerned.  “But we’re ready to do to that now, and we’re also going to reveal the baby’s name.  Inside the envelope Victor is holding is a card with the baby’s name printed on it.  The color of the card will indicate the baby’s sex.  I’m going to open the envelope and pull out the card, but I’ll have Victor read to you the name we’ve chosen.  So, Victor, may I have the envelope, please?”

Victor handed Jazmyn the envelope and she opened it with a letter opener.  “And now, we’re very pleased to announce that we’re having a baby…”  She paused for dramatic effect and then pulled a pink card from the envelope.  “…girl!” she said.  As soon as she said this, Victor started blowing into a party horn, and Jazmyn applauded excitedly.

They both stopped, and Jazmyn said, “Our baby girl’s name will be…” and she handed the pink card to Victor to read, as if he hadn’t already committed the name to memory.

“…Valeria Jasmín Alvarez Farris!” Victor said, using Spanish pronunciations and the Hispanic custom of following the father’s last name with the mother’s maiden name.  He then held the card up in front of the camera so the name could be read, clearing up any confusion about spellings.

Victor then clarified.  “For you gringos watching this, her last name will be Alvarez, not Farris.  In my culture we say the person’s mother’s maiden name after their actual last name.  For example, my name is Victor Alvarez, but among other Latinos I’m Victor Alvarez Betancourt, since my mother’s maiden name is Betancourt.

Jazmyn then spoke as she momentarily looked at the sonogram image.  “There’s one more thing we need to tell you about our baby that we learned during the same ultrasound.”  She and Victor looked at each other and held hands, and then Jazmyn continued.  “Baby Valeria…  Well, she’s going to take after her mother.  I say that tongue-in-cheek, because it’s not hereditary.”  Jazmyn paused before clarifying.  “Baby Valeria doesn’t have any legs.”  Jazmyn and Victor looked at each other again, and he put his arm around her and held her hand with his other hand.

Jazmyn continued.  “As you know, I had to have my own legs amputated in June after they were crushed when a tornado collapsed the roof of the store I was in at the time.  I’m sure you have the same question that we did:  How could my amputations have caused Valeria to also not have legs?  The doctor first told us it was just a crazy coincidence, but then we discussed it further and together figured out what probably happened.

“I was already about six weeks pregnant when the tornado hit.  That’s the point where a baby first starts growing its limbs.  Apparently something about either the trauma from the injury or the combination of drugs I was given interfered with the development of her legs at the exact wrong time.

“Anyway, Victor and I have come to terms with this little plot twist in our lives.  I can’t think of anyone more qualified to be the mother of a legless little girl than me.  Since I lost my own legs, my attitude has been that nothing’s going to stop me from doing what I want to do, and I’m certainly going to teach her to have that same attitude.  We chose the name Valeria because it means ‘strong and brave’, and we know that’s what she will be.

“So please don’t feel sorry for us, and I beg you, don’t make Valeria the object of your pity.  As far as we know, she’s otherwise perfectly healthy, which we’re grateful for.  We’re excited to welcome her into our family and I look forward to not only being her mother, but also being her role model and mentor as she grows older.  I already know she’ll have an amazing life, and I can’t wait to cheer her on and watch her do it!  Thanks for watching, everyone.  Bye!”

Almost immediately after they posted the video, both of their phones started blowing up with calls and texts and messages from well-wishers.

Chapter 8 – Nesting

As the third trimester progressed, Jazmyn’s breasts and belly continued to grow, she became more and more horny, and also more deeply in love with baby Valeria.  Victor made sure to keep her sexually satisfied, at least whenever they were together, and often even when they were not.  Since she was horny most of the time, they discovered that Victor could order her to orgasm while they were on a voice call together, and she was powerless to resist.  Of course, they were careful to do that when they were somewhere where Victor wouldn’t be overheard and Jazmyn wouldn’t be heard or seen.

But every chance they got, which meant when they both had a weekend completely off work, they had lots of bondage and submission and screwed like rabbits, and then Victor made sure Jazmyn had a nice long trip to subspace and back.  They both knew their opportunities for anything other than vanilla sex would be rather limited once Valeria was born, so they were determined to make the most of the time they had remaining without her.  Being legless made it seem like she was already halfway bound 24/7, and her big, pregnant belly and boobs just drove both of them wild with lust.  Jazmyn was deeply content, and couldn’t imagine her life being any more perfect.

That included at work, too.  Jazmyn was really enjoying her assistant manager role and realized how fortunate she had been to have been offered the promotion and how smart she had been to accept it.  She wasn’t sure she would have had the energy to work full time as either a barista or a shift leader being this pregnant and having to do everything from a wheelchair.  You’d think it would be easy, working from a seated position in a wheelchair, but in those jobs she would have been constantly on the go, meaning she’d be using her arms and hands to wheel herself around, and she would be always having to reach up high for things that were at a convenient height for someone standing.

Victor and Jazmyn were living in a one-bedroom apartment on the fourth floor of a building with an elevator.  It had worked for them until now, but they both realized that it soon would not.  Besides needing another bedroom, Victor was concerned about Jazmyn trying to evacuate with the baby in a fire, when the elevator would not be an option.  He knew she could get out herself using the stairs, but trying to do so with a baby was another matter entirely.

Victor had first rented that apartment when he was a new college graduate and just starting his job.  Now, more than 2-1/2 years later, he was making a larger salary and they also had Jazmyn’s paycheck.  He also anticipated a big increase once he earned his Certified Financial Planner designation in several more months.  So, they began looking for single-family homes either for sale or for rent.  But they had specific criteria that eliminated most of what was available – due to Jazmyn’s as well as Valeria’s lack of legs, it had to be a one-story house that was either already wheelchair accessible or which could be made so with minimal cost and effort.

Nothing on the market in their price range met their needs, however, and they didn’t have a lot of time left before Valeria would arrive.  It was the slowest time of the year for real estate, with the fewest properties available.  They resigned themselves to staying put in the short term, and they’d keep an eye on new listings in case something came along.  They could keep Valeria in their bedroom for at least a few months, and they’d just have to hope there wouldn’t be a fire when Victor was away.

They’d be staying put for the holidays that year, as Jazmyn would be seven months pregnant at Thanksgiving and eight months along at Christmas.  But this gave Jazmyn’s boss Madison the opportunity to take vacation over Christmas while Jazmyn minded the store for her, ahead of Jazmyn being out on maternity leave.

In early January, Jazmyn had two baby showers held on her behalf, one put on by her co-workers, and the other by her family.  At the coffee shop, Madison allowed them to close the store for an hour one afternoon so they could hold the party there.  Jazmyn’s sisters hosted the other one at her parents’ home, and invited family and friends from outside of work, including Victor’s family.  Victor’s sister-in-law Natalie, who had become close to Jazmyn, as well as his older sister Antonella, flew in from New York to represent the Alvarez family at the shower.

Victor enlisted Jazmyn’s father Cody to help him make some of the baby gear easier for Jazmyn to use.  Knowing that Jazmyn generally preferred skateboarding or walking on her hands to the wheelchair when at home, they sawed the legs off of the baby crib so it would be low enough for her to put the Valeria in the crib and pick her back up again.  They did the same to a diaper changing table.  They shortened the legs of a rocking chair and reattached the curved runners so she could get in and out of it while holding the baby.

And so the time came for baby Valeria to make her entrance into the world, right on her due date in late January.  It was by all measures a routine labor and delivery, and both Jazmyn and Victor were thrilled to meet their new daughter and show her off via photos and videos.  She was perfect in every way, other than her missing legs.  Jazmyn, in particular, didn’t know it was humanly possible to love someone as much as she loved her little daughter.
