Dominique rose to her feet as reality shifted. Thanks to a strange device, a hoop of variable size attached to a metal rod, that her new friends Bianca and Nora had acquired from a mysterious shop, Dominique had grown from a petite 4’11” to a towering 9’10”. However, doing so had caused the device to sputter out and stop working, effectively making Dominique’s change irreversible.

At least, that's how Dominique remembered it.

After Nora had stuck a reality-altering transfer tattoo on the back of Dominique’s gargantuan hand, reality had shifted. As far as Nora and Bianca could remember, Dominique was just a French-Canadian immigrant who happened to be exceptionally tall. There was no evidence of the device that had made the former shrimp into the tallest human being to ever exist.

“Hey, if you want a lift home, we can shout you a CarPool ride,” said Bianca .

Dominique was confused. She remembered taking public transport to get to Nora and Bianca’s. Of course, that was back when she was tiny. Now, she couldn't exactly ride on a bus. So it stood to reason that she would have been transported to Nora and Bianca’s house via alternative means, but she couldn’t remember what that was.

“That would be nice,” said Dominique. She had remembered Nora's advice to just play along with those whose minds were altered by the shift in reality.

Nora and Bianca re-entered their house. Dominique had reservations, but followed them in. As she walked, she noticed that she felt significantly heavier. Fortunately, she had the proportionate strength to support herself.

As she re-entered Nora and Bianca’s house, Dominique had to duck under the doorway. To her relief, the house wasn’t too cramped, but she could definitely feel her head brushing against the ceiling.

Dominique also saw that the teacup she was drinking from earlier was replaced by a large jug. She also noticed that the chair she had sat in had a noticeable groove left by her now-oversized butt.

Dominique sat down on the chair, and looked through the purse she had left next to it. To her surprise, a large tablet had replaced her phone. Curious, Dominique carefully switched it on and looked through her photographs and social media. In every single photograph she was in, she was always the tallest person. Even as a child, she was already towering over her parents.

Dominique smiled. She stood out for her size in the reality she remembered, but now she stood out for the opposite reason. But something about being a giant just made her feel more special.

“Hey, can you give me your address?” Bianca asked. She was on her laptop, looking at the CarPool website.

Dominique opened the map app on her tablet, double-checking her address. Fortunately, it was the same, but Dominique suspected it’d be different in this new reality. Dominique told Bianca her address, and a few minutes later, Bianca had finished setting up a CarPool ride for Dominique.

“Okay, done. Your ride will be here in about ten minutes. Oh, and I told them you were huge, so it shouldn’t be too cramped for you.”

Dominique appreciated the courtesy from her new friends.

Ten minutes later, a car horn honked outside. Dominique stood up and walked out the front door, taking care to avoid hitting her head on the door frame.

What she saw made her do a double take - parked at the kerb of Nora and Bianca’s front lawn was a pickup truck, or as the Australians would call it, a ute.

“For me?” Dominique asked.

“I know you have to ride in the back,” said Bianca. “But this is all they had”

“No, no, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to ride in a convertible,” said Dominique. “C’est malade!” she said, a phrase that was her equivalent of saying “This is awesome.”

“See ya, Dom” said Nora. “It was nice to have you over.”

Merci beaucoup,” said Dominique. “It's been amazing making new friends in this country.”

Dominique hopped into the back of the ute and sat down, putting her relatively tiny purse between her legs. And once she gave the directions to the driver, Dominique was on her way home, the wind in her hair as she anticipated what her home would look like.

As soon as the ute arrived at Dominique’s address, she almost wondered if she had been taken to the wrong address. She recognised the houses on her street, but not the one she lived in. On closer inspection, she recognised that it was her rental house, just a storey taller.

She stepped out of the truck and double-checked the address. She knelt down to the driver’s side.

“‘Scuse me, but would you mind waiting here for a few minutes? I'm euh, new here, so I'm not quite used to living at a different address just yet.”

The driver, a Persian man, just smiled and nodded. Dominique carefully walked up to the door of her house, and took the key out of her purse. Carefully, she unlocked the front door and gave it a small push, taking care not to rip the door off its hinges.

To her relief, she recognised the interior of her rental house, though it looked different. Though the house appeared to be two stories tall on the outside, it was merely a one-story house where the ceiling height was much taller.

“All good!” Dominique called out to the driver. As the driver drove away, Dominique carefully examined her new abode.

From her perspective, there were some items in the house that looked miniature to her - like the pictures on her tablet, the framed photographs showcased Dominique as a giant. What especially amused her was her certificate of “Tallest Human Being” from Guinness.

Dominique quickly went to her bedroom, and after unzipping her boots, kicked them off. They landed with a more audible “THUNK” than she was used to, but that was to be expected when they were big enough to fit her. It was then that she realised that, aside from a few postcard-sized posters, her room felt identical to how she originally left it. The king-size bed that had taken the place of her single bed was not only reinforced, but big enough to fit her large frame.

Quickly checking the wardrobe, she was delighted to see that all her clothes had been sized up to fit her too. After skimming through her casual clothes, she looked at the various items she used to make up the occasional school uniform she liked to wear. She couldn’t wait to dress up like the world’s tallest schoolgirl.

After getting accustomed to her new living space, Dominique went back to the living room and slumped down on her large, reinforced couch, and observed the large TV - it too must have doubled in size thanks to the reality shift, because it looked the same proportionate to her. She picked up the relatively tiny remote, and thought about popping on a DVD to watch.

Suddenly, her stomach audibly growled. Not in the mood to make her own dinner, Dominique picked up her tablet and opened the MenuLog app, placing an order for four supreme pizzas, four garlic bread rolls, six two-litre bottles of Pepsi, and two large buckets of french fries from a local Italian restaurant she liked. For dessert, she ordered a three-layer chocolate cake from a French patisserie she had been curious about. Dominique instinctively knew that with great size, there must also come great hunger, and so she wasn’t prepared to die of starvation.

An hour later, as Dominique ate her banquet for one, she reflected on her situation - she was formerly tiny, and was now huge. She knew that there had to be some catches to being a giant, and though she couldn’t ride in a vehicle, she was curious to know how the rest of reality shifted, and how she'd interact with other people now that she was twice their size.

“Maybe I should invite Nora and Bianca over sometime,” she thought to herself.
