The throne room was filled with rich furniture, carefully crafted ornaments, fluffy carpets and a magnificently shiny marble floor. Guards were silently stationed near the main doors, while some servants were doing the housework. The stone carver stepped in the hall before kneeling in front of the throne. The figure who occupied the throne was none other than Cleopatra VII, ruler of the Kingdom of Egypt, and Queen of the Nile. A beautiful woman indeed, with her own agenda and interest.
“It is an honour to answer your call, my Queen,” the stone carver said.
"Stone carver, what is the most powerful kingdom in the world?" asked the queen.
"Egypt, my Queen."
"And such a glorious country require glorious pieces of art. This is the reason why you are here
today; because i want to commission a piece of art from you."
The stone carver, still kneeling, took a deep inhale, before answering.
"It would be an honour to put my services at your hands, my Queen,” he said.
"And I will gladly offer you this honour,” said another woman’s voice.
The man did not raise his head, but turned his eyes to the direction of the voice. He saw another Cleopatra walking to the throne where she was already occupying it. Of course, the queen had divided into two a few years ago, and they both held the title since. Both Cleopatras exchanged a slight wave, before the second one ordered the man to stand up. The stone carver proceeded and took a look at the twin queens.
"From your skilled hands, I wish to commission a large mural in our city." said one Cleopatra.
“With your help, my reign will go down in history,” said the second Cleopatra.
Before the stone-carver could answer, the doors opened, a messenger passed the guards before running and kneeling to the twin leaders.
"May the gods pardon my offence, but I am here with an important message from Rome..."
"… and as such, Cleopatra is one of the earliest known people who had the congenital condition that we know today as post-natal mitosis. It is unknown when she first split, but rumours talks about a very stressful event that struck the kingdom of Egypt, perhaps a poor harvest season."
The guide showed the visitors fragments of a stone wall. There was hieroglyphs and
figures representing two of the same woman near a throne. One of the visitors raised his hand.
"Why are there four Cleopatras on the next segment of the wall ?"
"Ah yes, a famous case of episodic mitosis. Cleopatra divided once again when she heard Rome was coming, and when she was done, she was now a set of postnatal quadruplets. Luckily, the four of her were enough to save the Kingdom of Egypt from falling into ruin. This is why Cleopatra is mentioned as one of the most successful individuals of all time with mitosis; her duplicates were very efficient and coordinated."
A young lady with a surprised face whispered to a man near her.
"Well, I hope I’m at least as good as Cleopatra handling my mitosis..."
"Don’t worry, darling. You and yourself are the best I could hope for."
