Part Twelve: Heaven
Abigail Taylor-Smythe lay silently beside the sleeping figure of her wife, Jessica. Her eyes had been open for several minutes but she hadn't dared to move for fear of awakening her slumbering Mistress. The fear was not that she would be punished for disturbing her dominant partner, but rather that she would be deprived of this moment; an opportunity to just soak in the sight of her beauty, to inhale the sweet strawberry essence of her shampoo, to feel the warmth of her bare flesh radiating across the short space of air between them.
The iconic phrase "I've died and gone to heaven" came to mind, as it often had in the six months since being reunited with Jessica. In fact, the analogy to death and the afterlife was a fitting one. Not that the two years she had spent with her "ex-husband", Major Peter Taylor, had been that horrible, but at times she had felt as though she had died inside.
After she and Jessica had been arrested by the government's Moral Regeneration Unit for their immoral lesbian lifestyle, she was unable to learn anything of Jessica's fate. She didn't know if her lover was alive or dead, if she would ever hold her in her arms again, or feel her soft lips upon her own. Taken to an MRU clinic to be "regenerated" into a proper, heterosexual, woman, she struggled to maintain her identity against the constant barrage of brainwashing techniques used in the regeneration process. Thankfully, just as she was beginning to think she was starting to lose her battle against her oppressors, Peter appeared to take her away.
Abby's few years of service with MI6, Britain's foreign intelligence service, had taught her many things. Besides learning how to resist being brainwashed, she learned that while working undercover she was to never break her cover until her security was one hundred percent assured. Just because she had worked closely with Peter in the past she couldn't assume that it was safe to tell him she hadn't succumbed to the regeneration process. When they left the MRU facility and went directly to the Magistrate to be married she knew she had been right not to reveal her secret too quickly. To her dismay, Peter seemed to be sympathetic to the misogynistic regime that had taken over the British government. Afraid exposure of her secret would result in her immediate return to the MRU clinic, Abby maintained her "cover" as a regenerated wife until the day Peter took her with him to the Gretna Signals Station near the Scottish border.
To her surprise, it turned out that the trip was part of a plan to free her from the British version of hell. As they neared the Station she learned that Peter had known all along that she had not been Regenerated. Besides that, she was stunned to find out he was working with the Kink Support Network, an underground organization that aided those the regime sought to persecute - those who lived outside the "norms" of society. Gays, lesbians, fetishists, transsexuals; they were all targets.
When they arrived at Gretna Station, the most stunning revelation of the day was the appearance of her Mistress, Jessica, as she came out of a tunnel that had been dug under the border.
To say her mind was reeling as she rode with Jessica in a small cart through the tunnel to Scotland would be a gross understatement. Everything she had thought was real had been turned upside down in a matter of hours. Once she had acclimated to the reality that she was free, and reunited with her Mistress, it was if she had been brought back to life.
But those first few days had not been easy on her emotionally. There was a huge feeling of relief that Jessica was alive, yet anger at having that information withheld from her for all of that time. While her love for Jessica was unquestionable, she still had feelings for Peter. Those feelings, which she could not deny existed, conflicted with emotions she was hard pressed to identify. Was she hurt that he hadn't trusted her enough to tell her he knew she hadn't been regenerated. Didn't he think she was skilled enough as an agent to live her cover? Or did he like to control her the way he had? There was so much she didn't know about Peter's motivations for keeping her in London as his wife.
Even with the negativity she was feeling towards Peter, she was simply blown away by the fact that he was so deeply involved with the London branch of the Kink Support Network, and crucial to the communications network they had set up throughout the country. As much as she wanted to hate him, the respect she had for his level of tradecraft prevented that hatred from ever forming. She was a trained agent, and didn't suspect he was up to anything until the last couple of days they were in London. Even then she wasn't sure, but things had really started to get strange with the MRU psychiatrist coming to the house, and then Peter suddenly announcing he wanted to take her with him on his trip.
No, she couldn't hate him. He was a good man, and an unbelievably talented intelligence operative. With her mind somewhat settled on the topic of Peter Taylor, she had mentioned this to her Mistress, thinking she would be happy that she held no ill feelings towards Peter. After all, Jessica and Peter had been close friends for many years.
"Oh!" Jessica exclaimed, theatrically. "So you forgive him for messing up your life, do you?"
Abby started to say, 'yes', but was quickly cut off.
"Was it hard on you, living with the Major? And what about him? Do you think he wanted to live for two years with a woman he knew was going to be leaving him in time? Do you think he might rather have found someone who he could fall in love with and would love him in return? Just before the election campaigning began, he told me that he was thinking his days in the field were numbered; that he'd been thinking more and more of finding a cottage by the sea. He was thinking of dating, and even of marriage. All of that changed when the Ultras came to power."
Jessica paused, obviously thinking of that conversation, and Abby waited silently, knowing the reprimand she was receiving was deserved.
"I communicated with Peter many times in the past two years," her voice gentler now. "His only concern was for your safety and your state of mind. He never spoke of the sacrifices he was making, the danger he put himself in every day for our cause."
"I'm sorry, Mistress..." Abby broke down in tears. Jessica's rebuke hit her hard as she realized how selfish she had been, thinking only of how the past two years had affected her. Peter's life had been on hold during those two years, as well. Even her Mistress had lived all of that time alone. Sure, she knew her lover was safe, but there was still the danger that she would be discovered and returned to the MRU clinic.
Jessica pulled Abby against her and wrapped her arms around her. "Shhh," she cooed. "There's a great big picture we didn't allow you to see. We made a choice, well, I made a choice to keep you in the dark, and to let you go on believing that no one knew you weren't regenerated. That was primarily to protect Peter, who is one of our most valuable assets in London. For his cover to be secure, even after you were supposedly taken by the KSN, he needed to have a solid history of life with a regenerated wife. We've learned that no one who's investigated your disappearance has cast a shadow of a doubt on Peter's loyalties at all."
Abby was grateful her Mistress had straightened her out so quickly after their reunification. Who knows how long she would have wallowed in self-pity? Her dressing down had allowed her to focus her energies on her new life very quickly.
Looking past her sleeping Mistress, Abby could see the alarm clock that was due to go off in a few minutes. She reached over, careful not touch Jessica's bare shoulder, to hit the switch turning off the alarm before it buzzed. The alarm was just a fail-safe in case Abby overslept. She was expected to be awake before the alarm went off so that she could awaken her Mistress slowly, and pleasurably. With Jessica on her side, facing her, Abby lowered her position on the bed so that her head was level with her partner's bare breasts. One was crushed against the mattress, but the other presented a wonderful target for her gentle kisses.
Moving in slowly, Abby planted her first kiss on the bottom edge of Jessica's areola. Each kiss that followed traced a path around her nipple, and then down onto the soft flesh of Jessica's breast. The attention was having the desired affect on her Mistress as Jessica began to stir and, much to Abby's delight, began to moan softly.
"Is it that time already, love?" Jessica purred as she stretched her arm out to rest her hand on Abby's back.
Abby planted a warm kiss on Jessica's nipple and said, "Yes, Miss. It's a new day."
The End
