The Longing

It's late
well, early
dawn approaches
the uneasy feeling rises
today the process continues

Darkness
has been a friend
that has stayed too long
but day by day the night fades
second by second is added to the day

No more!
to the safe place
three seconds more today
maybe four tomorrow who knows
there's an eternity to take small steps

Someday
dawn will come
and experienced again
as it was so very long ago
until then the longing continues
