The red-head arched her back and yawned... She opened and closed her lips a few times, turning her head to look at the clock on the wall. It took her a while to process what the hands tried to tell her, but when she did, the girl sighed.
Mary-Jane Watson slumped down deeper into the sofa, willing it to come to life and consume her so her superhero boyfriend would have reason to come home to the rescue. The telly was on, blaring out the news, but it was just a constant drone and the girl was bored. Even at such a high volume, the anchor's voice drilled on in that fake sing-song... every word floating through the air and coming to a heavy rest on Mary-Jane's eyelids.
She reached up to rub her eyes, stretching her petite frame a little to keep herself awake. She grabbed at the remote to turn up the volume a little louder, but as she lifted the remote she couldn't remember what buttons to press, or why she lifted the remote. Her eyes drooped and she began to slide on to her side...
With a jolt, Mary-Jane jumped awake, startled by the sudden falling sensation. She yawned again and decided to get off of the life-draining sofa of squishiness. With a sigh, she got to her feet and walked over to the kitchen counter. She grabbed a glass goblet and poured herself some wine.
It was their anniversary. She loved that her boyfriend was out saving the world and all, but... a girl has needs. Why do the bad guys only come out at night? She took a sip. If she just sat there, she knew the night'd turn to day in an instant. She had to do something. But what?
She turned her attention to the television and saw a shot of her boyfriend sailing through the air, probably chasing after some pickpocket or other.
Then she had an idea. Seeing him in that suit... Mary giggled to herself. It was only recently that she'd gotten the boy drunk enough to talk about it... He could have easily donned a costume that wasn't so... clingy, or all-encompassing, like Hawkeye or Luke Cage... It was no coincidence that he chose something so... fetishy. The duo had talked about his interests, of Zentai suits and Latex. She must have been quite drunk herself because eventually she'd found herself even agreeing to try on something full-bodied and tight for him. He'd wanted her to try on a spandex version of the Venom suit he'd been... trapped in. But she just wasn't comfortable with it. Eventually they decided on a microfiber red and blue "Spidergirl" Halloween Costume.
A week later... this morning, actually, the suit had arrived. Just in time for Valentine's day. The duo had had dinner together, and wine... the plan was for her to slip into the suit... but then his damned spider sense went off. And before she knew it, her damned spider man went off.
And now she was sitting on her bed, sipping her wine, Spidergirl suit laid out and waiting. She glimpsed outside at the telly and decided that things were dying down. Perhaps, she could still squeeze in one more surprise for the night.
"The night's not over yet," She purred. She downed the last of her wine and reached for the suit... and then the doorbell rang.
Mary-Jane turned, and headed towards the door.
"You're ringing doorbells now? Haha, what's wrong with the window?" She laughed, as she undid the deadbolt and unlocked the door.
"I almost got started without you, ti...ger?" She opened the door and saw nothing. She stuck her head out and looked down the corridor, but no one was there. Then she caught a glimpse of her welcome mat in her peripheral vision and came to the sudden realization that she didn't have a welcome mat. And then she came to the sudden realization that whatever it was, it wasn't a welcome mat.
The redhead bent over to pick it up. It was a box. Brown. Nothing special. A delivery?
"...don't i need... to sign something?" She wondered aloud.
She closed the door and locked it, instinctively throwing on the deadbolt. Maybe her boyfriend had ordered something. As she brought the box into earshot of the blaring TV, she could have sworn she felt it tremble a little.
"What's yours is mine," she chuckled, and undid the plastic shrink wrap around it. Her piercing gaze stared intently at the unmarked box, but the girl did not have x-ray vision. So she gingerly removed the lid of the box, wiggling it a little to get the lower half free...
And then it came free. Mary-Jane jumped backwards, hand over her mouth, bumping painfully into her dining table. What she saw inside the box, she hadn't seen in... she'd lost track... and yet, the sight of the empty white eyes, the ebony skin that seemed to absorb all light... The box's contents spilled on the floor, and the face fell limp on top of the bundle. The face of Venom.
Mary stood frozen in place, but so did Venom. Except Venom didn't stand. Venom wasn't even there. Mary gingerly approached the bundle of black on the ground. Not wanting to touch it directly, she grabbed a chopstick [Chinese Takeout for Valentine's. 10/10 would recommend. such romantic] and prodded it.
"It" did not roar to life as the girl had expected. "It", simply fell over and folded over itself as the chopstick pushed at it.
Mary suddenly relaxed, and came to a sudden realization. "It" was just a bundle of cloth. A bundle of shockingly realistic looking cloth. The boy must have ordered the venom suit for himself.
"...or maybe..." A naughty grin came across Mary-Jane's face. Maybe, it wasn't for himself. Maybe... it was for her.
"I don't know how he will ever make it up to me for this, but his spider sense isn't going to be the only thing tingling tonight."
Mary-Jane had no idea how right she was.
