The veil of slumber lifts and I am thrust into a hazy awareness of a profound change. My body feels different, lighter, devoid of the usual weight at my extremities.
My first instinct is to move, to get out of bed, but my body responds in an entirely unfamiliar way. Instead of the steady coordination of limbs, there's only the awkward contraction of my remaining hip muscles, a futile twitching in empty space. The normal push and pull of muscles against bones, now replaced by the bizarre sensation of absence and immobility.
Just as I am grappling with the shock, my partner enters the room. The sight of my transformed body halts them mid-step, their gaze wide and startled. After a moment of silence, recognition flickers in their eyes.
They rush to my side, lifting me gently, supporting what's left of my body with one arm. Our eyes meet, and without words, they convey a reassurance, an acceptance that fills the space between us. A tender kiss lands on my lips, sending a shiver down my spine.
Driven by instinct, I reach out to reciprocate the affection, longing to touch their face. But the command echoes back to me, unfulfilled. My shoulders twitch in response, a physical testament to my new reality.
Yet, even as the enormity of my transformation sinks in, a thrill permeates the shock, a profound joy at this newfound alignment with my deepest desires. My partner notices my futile attempts to embrace, as well as the thrill painted across my face in response.
"Surprise!" I say, a wide grin spreading across my face, "What do you think?"
The surprise in their eyes gives way to a dawning acceptance, "This is what you wanted, right?"
I nod, my heart pounding in my chest, "Yes, it is."
A slow smile spreads on their face, "I love my brave little torso girl."
"Who's that?" I tease, a blush spreading across my cheeks.
"You, silly!" They laugh, the sound resonating within me, anchoring me in this surreal, beautiful reality.
I lay my head against their shoulder--all I can do anymore, as we walk to the kitchen. If I had any fingers anymore, I would pinch myself.
