Picture is AI, the story is mine.
Tony Phillips walked across the campus to reception, a confident spring in his step.
He was in his late 20s, neat and well presented, and in a good mood as he was going to a job interview which the University had said they were looking forward to…
He had a doctorate in Psychology, as well as Social Studies, and had applied for the head of the Psychology department job which had recently become vacant.
A few women were taking an interest in him, as he walked over. However, he felt that the looks were more ones of surprise, which puzzled him a little.
Tony walked into the reception area and stopped at the main desk.
The woman sitting there looked up; her eyes went wide, and she nearly fell off her chair!
“I’m sorry, are you sure you’re in the right place?”, she said.
“This is main reception, isn’t it?”, he replied. “I’m Tony Phillips, here about the Psychology post.”
A woman on another desk started spluttering, as her coffee went down the wrong way. A colleague patted her on the back to help her.
“There must be some mistake…”, the receptionist continued.
“I’m here to see Diana Masters”, Tony continued, now thoroughly confused…
At that point, Diana came out from her office.
“It’s all right, Debbie, send HIM in”, she said, the emphasis on ‘him’.
“Oh… err… right!”, said Debbie. “This way, SIR”, she said to Tony.
Tony followed Debbie and Diana back to Diana’s office.
Diana sat back down behind her desk, Tony sat in the available chair, and Debbie ‘hovered’ near him.
“Thank you, Debbie, that will be all”, Diana said.
Now looking miserable, Debbie mooched back to her desk. “You’re no fun…”, she muttered.
“Shut the door on your way out”, called Diana.
Debbie was heard to grumble faintly further as she shut the door.
“Now, MR Phillips, about the position.”, Diana said, once again emphasising the Mr.
“I think there’s obviously been a misunderstanding; hopefully we can clear this up.”
Diana got up from her chair, walked round and sat on the desk.
“Your qualifications are excellent, the best we’ve seen; all perfect, to be exact, except for one…”
“What’s that?”, Tony asked.
“Why, your sex of course”, said Diana. “Isn’t it obvious? You’re male.”
“I’m sorry?”, said Tony, now thoroughly confused.
“Yes, I know you can’t help it; these accidents of birth cause us all problems from time to time. The trouble is this University is an all-female one; that includes the staff. All of them.”
“This wasn’t in the paperwork!?”, said Tony. “You mean I’ve come all this way for nothing!”
Tony was now really angry. He’d spent hours getting to the campus, and spent a small fortune on rail and bus fares, just to be told he was the wrong sex…!!
“When your paperwork came through”, Diana said, “it was in the name of Ms Toni Phillips. We thought Toni was short for Antonia, that’s why we offered you the job. Look…”
Diana showed Tony the forms he had filled in. Tony admitted his writing skills weren’t brilliant, and the ‘r’ of Mr looked like an ‘s’ and the ‘y’ of Tony looked like an ‘I’.
“I’ve even got the passes ready in that name”, said Diana, "I was really looking forward to meeting you and you starting…”
Diana stopped for a second and looked closely at Tony.
“You know, I think I can see a way of this working. You seem to be able to make friends easily; you certainly made an impression on Debbie. Let’s have tea while I think about this…”
“Debbie!”, Diana called out. “Can you do us tea?”
“No problem!”, came back from reception. “I’d be glad to!”
“See what I mean…?”, Diana said…
When Debbie came in with the tea, Diana said “Can you contact Sally in fashion? Her project is due.”
With a smile on her face, Debbie hurried out, humming to herself.
Diana and Tony carried on talking, over tea.
“Do you always keep it so hot in here?”, he asked, feeling drowsy.
Diana was just able to take the cup from him before he passed out…
Sometime later, Tony awoke.
“What the hell…?” he squeaked, in a voice much higher than usual.
He was lying on a bunk in the University medical bay.
He was also naked.
However, He was also a woman…
Diana and Debbie came into the room.
“Ah, that’s better”, Diana said. I knew our paperwork was right. There you are, Antonia.”
“What the fuck have you done to me!”, Antonia shrieked. “My name is… my name is…”
“Yes…?”, said Diana.
“I’m not a… I’m not a… This isn’t me!!”
Antonia was getting confused, frightened and angry at the same time.
“Please, don’t fight it”, Diana said. “You’ll only hurt yourself.”
Diana then went on to explain that they had only ‘edited’ Tony, not completely reprogrammed ‘him’. At the same time, Tony was now permanently Antonia, with a perfect body to match. Her body had a faint ‘blow up doll’ vibe to it, as it did look vaguely artificial, but this was put down to a childhood accident that had caused burns all over her body, with the bodysuit needing to be worn 24/7 for her to live (also in her new records).
“Your memories will settle down soon”, Diana said. “I think your girlfriend is really hoping you’ll recognise her…”
Debbie moved forward and hugged Antonia gently.
“Guess who…”, she said, kissing her.
To Debbie’s joy, Antonia returned the kiss…
Later that day, Antonia strode across the campus, as confident as ever.
She had got the job, as well as a new apartment on site, where she and her girlfriend were now living.
She looked incredible in her charcoal grey skirt suit and white blouse and ready for anything.
This time, the looks from the others were ones of desire, not surprise…
