Gill, who was an experienced urban explorer. discovered what he thought was an abandoned teaching hospital out in the sticks. It looked really rundown; doors coming off their hinges, paperwork strewn across the floor.
The urban explorers code was to ‘take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints’. However, he kept getting this irresistible urge to tidy up. Also, as he wandered around, the place started getting more and more familiar…
He ended up going into the staff changing room. All the lockers were empty, except one…
Hanging there was a complete, vintage nursing sister’s uniform, complete with a cape with cross straps in red.
The pull to wear it all was way too strong to resist…
Now fully dressed as a Nurse, Gill looks around, still distressed at the state of the place.
After finding a disposable gown, mask and cap to wear over his uniform to keep it tidy, he started trying to clean up. As he did, unnoticed by him, his body got more and more female…
By the time he’d finished his first ‘shift’, he filled the uniform out perfectly, and he was a she…
Nursing Sister Gillian Carter was depressed.
How on earth had things been allowed to get in such a state?
Also, where was everybody? She seemed to be having to do everything on her own. She didn’t mind; she wasn’t afraid of a bit of hard work; but what would happen if there was an emergency? There was no way she’d be able to treat more than a few people on her own. Also, there was no electricity. The water was still on, thankfully, but this place was going to be problems to navigate in the dark…
Still fully in unform, she headed down to the generator room, walking through the changing rooms as she went. She saw Gill’s rucksack with his camera by her locker.
Was someone else there? Also, why had the bag been left by her locker?
Shaking her head in confusion, she got to the generator room. Luckily, everything just appeared to have been closed down; the kit looked as if it was working properly. She knew this because she had been trained on generator maintenance because the hospital was in a war zone, and each member of staff had multiple jobs for redundancy.
Grateful for her knowledge, she quickly got the generator started and the lights came on. She sighed with relief and went back to her ward.
Soon, her ward was clean and tidy, with fresh linen on the beds, waiting for patients. To her surprise, she quite quickly got one…
The young girl was sitting on the floor of the main reception area, and Gillian saw her on the CCTV. She went racing to her.
“I tripped and hurt my leg”, the girl cried. “Can you help me?”
“Of course, little one”, Gillian said.
She got a wheelchair, sat the girl in it, and took her to the ward. She then chatted with the girl as she checked her over, discovering her leg was actually broken. It was luckily only a greenstick fracture, easily mended.
“Now, take it easy on that leg”, she said. “Don’t do anything too energetic, you could make it worse”.
“Yes, Sister”, said the girl, smiling. She then left.
After that, the word got round that the hospital was open again, as well as about the Angel Sister running it.
Gillian was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed…
One day, however, she suddenly noticed that one of the other lockers had a uniform hanging in it. A junior nurses uniform.
The young man who walked into reception looked really confused, wanting Gillian to help him.
“I got told somehow there was a job waiting here for me…?”, he said.
Gillian just smiled and steered him to the changing room, leaving him alone in there. For some reason, she felt that the process of changing was too ‘intimate’ for an observer to be present…
Shortly after, the young nurse, Michelle, reported for duty, curtseying in front of Gillian. Gillian happily showed her the ropes, and the pair kept the ward running efficiently.
They both decided, however, that they could still do with a few more staff members…
One was ‘recruited’ the same way that Gillian had started, maybe a little more reluctantly. He was also an urban explorer and had heard about the hospital, not knowing it was back in use. He’d been sneaking round one of the disused wings as opposed to the area where Gillian and Michelle were working. They’d still got the CCTV working throughout, however, and spotted him. He was grabbed and pushed into a staff changing room…
The new nurse came on duty, pulling at her uniform apron. Everything felt wrong; for some crazy reason she felt she was a man…!
She couldn’t stop fidgeting. Gillian had to tell her off numerous times. Also, sometimes, when she walked past a mirror, she saw a frightened man’s face staring back at her…
Eventually, the new nurse calmed down and worked well on the ward.
The next surprise was the twins that walked in.
One was helping the other, who looked in a real state.
“My brother needs help!”, he cried.
Gillian and Michelle were straight out and helped the man to a bed. He’d been shot in the shoulder.
“The gangs are after us!”, the man cried. “I don’t know what we’ve done to deserve this. I’m sorry for dragging you into this!”.
“Don’t worry, love”, said Gillian.
Michelle and the new nurse, Michaela, started treating the man in the bed. Gillian went through the changing room to the break room for a tea, to calm her nerves. As she did, she looked at the staff lockers. Two nurses uniforms were hanging there. She was sure they hadn’t been there before…
She smiled. Life works in mysterious ways…
It had to happen.
The twins asked Gillian to hide them. Remembering the uniforms, she said that the only way she could hide them is by them becoming nurses…
The twin with the gunshot wound was recovering well. He could move easily, now, without too much pain, so he wouldn’t be confined to a bed. Both quickly agreed to Gillian’s plan…
A few minutes later, they came back into the room, neat and tidy in their uniforms. Gillian inspected them, then nodded.
“Well turned out. Good.”, she said, with a smile.
The twins hadn’t noticed at all the way that they were changing…
Now things were quiet again in the hospital, Gillian had a staff meeting in the break room.
After the meeting, she took Michaela to one side.
“I know you’re still having ‘problems’, shall we say”, she said.
Michaela shivered.
“This isn’t me! I’m not a woman, a nurse. I’m a man!”
“Yes, love, I know you were. You aren’t now. You’re a young woman, and a valued member of our team.”
Gillian hugged Michaela, then kissed her.
“You’re also very dear to me. What can I do to help?”
“I want to go home…!”
“You are home, sweetie. We live here, in the hospital, in the staff quarters. Don’t you remember?”
“No, I…”
Michaela was getting ‘distracted’ by the way Gillian was treating her.
“You’re not a man. You just have strong tendencies to fancy women, like me. I’ve had my eye on you for a while”, Gillian said. “Go back to your quarters and rest; I’ll join you later.”
Michaela left, leaving Gillian definitely hot under the collar. What was it about her…?
Michelle and the others didn’t mind at all. They had an easy ride of things when Gillian was in a good mood. That was why the hospital was now running so efficiently. Because it was an area where people were prone to get hurt, either by cartel action or by violence in the street, there was a steady turnover of patients.
Then, a man came in, with a photograph…
The picture was one of Michaela, as Michael, before her conversion.
“I’m looking for my son!”, the man cried. “He was exploring around here. Has anyone seen him?”
He then saw Michaela, heading back to the staff quarters.
“Hey! Stop, please!”, he called.
Michaela stopped and walked over.
“Can I help you…?”, she asked. The man looked vaguely familiar.
“Please, have you seen my son?”, the man asked, having no idea that he was talking to his changed son.
Some memories came back to Michaela, about her time as Michael. She remembered how abusive her father had been…
“No, I’m sorry, I haven’t”, she said. She wanted nothing to do with this man. “You should try asking my supervisor, Sister Carter. She remembers most people through here.”
Michaela went to a house phone and called the ward.
“Sister, could you come to reception please? There’s a man here that needs to talk to you.”
Gillian quickly came to reception.
“Can I help you?”, she asked.
“I’m looking for my son”, the man said, showing Gillian the picture.
Gillian looked at it; she also caught a slight but meaningful shake of the head from Michaela. She didn’t want the man to know…
“No, I’m sorry, he’s not here”, she said. That was true. Michaela was now fully a woman, so his son was definitely not there…
The man turned and left the hospital.
Michaela flew into Gillian’s arms.
“Thank you!” she said, crying on her shoulder. “He was abusing me…”
Gillian hugged Michaela tightly.
“Not anymore, love”, she said.
The pair walked back into the hospital, and their room in the staff quarters, Gillian hugging Michaela all the time…
