Alan went to visit his girlfriend, Sarah. They had been going out for months now; however, she seemed to have a particular fetish that only Alan could help her with…
She didn’t just want to love Alan, she wanted to ‘take care’ of him. She liked dressing up in a carer’s uniform and escorting Alan everywhere, treating him as if he was blind, or at least partially sighted, and handicapped…
She’d designed a special pair of glasses, to help with the ‘illusion’; making it difficult for Alan to see properly, and him having to use a white cane if he was on his own.
Alan had no idea she was training him for his future life…
Everything came to a head one night.
Screaming at him that he was a complete failure, she attacked him.
Alan was caught completely by surprise. He tried to push her away, but Sarah had the strength of madness on her side…
Forcing Alan back onto the bed, she sprayed something into his face. The pain was indescribable, then he passed out…
Alan woke up as Alannah.
He was now she; she was almost blind, due to the attack, and was now a handicapped woman. No longer able to speak, only able to see faint shadows and seemingly permanently in some kind of pain.
Alannah raised her hands to her face and waggled them in front of her eyes; no good, she couldn’t see anything clearly.
“Alannah, can you hear me? It’s Nurse Charlton. You’ve been unconscious for days…”
Alannah moaned, trying to answer, but her damaged mouth wouldn’t let her.
She had no way of knowing that, from the outside, she looked like a normal girl, albeit handicapped. The mask that Sarah had permanently sealed on her face was treating the burns but at the same time gave a normal appearance from the outside.
Alannah, in terror as the last thing ‘she’ remembered was being attacked, took a swing at the shadow in front of her.
“Alannah! It’s all right. I’m not Sarah. I’m a nurse. You’re in hospital. You were arguing with her, and she attacked you. I can’t believe she’d beat up a blind girl. A neighbour saw the fight and called the police, and they arrested her and brought you here.”
Alannah frantically motioned for a piece of paper, and a pen. Even blind, she should still be able to write…
‘Not Alannah!’, she scribbled. ‘Alan! Sarah did this.’
“Oh, sweetie, you can’t be. Alan died years ago. You’re his twin sister, Alannah…”
It turned out that Sarah had been planning this revenge for some time.
Ever since she had started dating Alan, years ago, they had been living together. As part of her ‘fetish’, every time Alan had gone out it after meeting her it was as her handicapped friend. Alan had been unknowingly making the ‘fiction’ of his own twin sister true. People had seen ‘her’ out with Sarah and drawn the conclusion that Sarah had wanted.
Sarah had gone out one evening on her own, near the start of their relationship, and got back tired and exhausted. Alan had no way of knowing that she had destroyed his old flat, in a vicious rage, by a fire. Alan was supposed to have died in the blaze…
It was only as she attacked him, on their last night together, that she told him why she was doing it.
“You destroyed my sister! You dumped her, publicly! She was devastated! So devastated, she took her own life! She meant everything to me!”
“You destroyed her life, so now I’m destroying yours! However, I’m not a killer, no matter what you think of me. I’m just destroying your identity, instead…”
Alan was now permanently Alannah; handicapped and almost blind. However, she almost felt grateful to Sarah; the ‘training’ that she had been given, whilst being Sarah’s ‘girlfriend’, had prepared her well for feeling her way about.
Something had really twisted inside her; her next note that she wrote, in her shaky scrawl, just said… ‘Need Sarah’.
Doctors and Nurses tried to convince her that was a bad idea. Alannah just pointed at the note and refused to do anything else for anyone.
Attempts to treat her were refused. She stopped eating or drinking. Tubes put into her were pulled out again. She just curled up into a foetal ball on the bed and refused to talk to anyone.
Finally, not knowing what else to do, they brought in Sarah.
“What the hell do you expect me to do?”, she asked. “I’ve got what I wanted. I want nothing to do with this tramp anymore.”
The doctors just showed Sarah the note…
“Oh my god…”
Sarah just started crying.
“Alannah, you stupid, crazy idiot… you were never meant to fall in love with me! I hate you! I do, I really do…”
Her voice tailed off…
“Damn it…”
Unable to stop herself, before the police officer with her could stop her, she threw her arms around Alannah. The police officer, thinking she was attacking her again, went to stop her, but the nurse held her back.
Sarah and Alannah hugged each other, and snuggled together…
Alannah refused to press charges against Sarah, so she was released. As soon as she was, she came flying back to the hospital and sat by Alannah’s side until she was allowed home.
They both giggled as Sarah carried Alannah over the threshold…
Alannah was no longer feeling any pain from her burns; also, her eyesight had improved somewhat, enough to allow her to avoid bumping into objects at least.
Sarah had forgiven her for dumping her sister; she had found out from others what her sister was really like. She had refused to believe it at the time but, with Alannah’s support, she had come to terms with the fact she had attacked Alan for no reason. Alannah had also completely forgiven Sarah. The fact that she was in love with her might have had something to do with that, as well as the fact that she really loved being a woman, albeit a handicapped one. Sarah, however, was so caring…
Alannah woke one night to Sarah crying on her shoulder.
“I’m so sorry…”, she said, over and over again.
It was Alannah kissing her that made her stop.
Alannah then started stroking her hair, gently, kissing her as she did.
The tears changed to tears of joy…
