I woke up naked in a hotel room, a women between my legs, pleasuring me (so she thought…)
I was more concerned about the ‘D’ cup breasts that seemed to be attached to me…!
I just let out a high-pitched shriek and bounced out of the bed, almost knocking the other girl flying…
“What’s wrong, baby?”, she asked, concerned.
“Everything!”, I squeaked back, amazed at how high pitched my voice had become. I looked down at myself. I was completely naked, apart from a white, lacy collar round my neck, lace gloves and matching stockings. I was also definitely female.
“Come back to bed, love”, she said. “After all, it’s our wedding night…”
She promptly had to dive out of bed herself to catch me as I fainted…
Shortly after, I awoke. This gorgeous sexy little brunette was gazing down at me, worry etched all over her face.
“Sammie”, she asked, anxiously, “what’s wrong? Talk to me.”
Shakily, I looked at her, gulped, then decided, oh, what the hell…
“I’m Sam, not ‘Sammie’”, I said. “Also, when I woke up yesterday, I was a man.”
The girl laughed. “Next thing you’ll be telling me is you don’t know me or remember our time together.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t”, I said. “I don’t even know your name…”
With a sob, the girl turned away.
“Talk about spoiling the mood…!”, she said…
Seeing as I was the ‘guy’, I slinked off to the sofa, letting her use the bed, finding out in the process her name was Ruby.
Ruby said I was being stupid; neither of us had anything the other hadn’t seen before, and I was definitely not a bloke, as she wouldn’t have got ‘involved’ with me if I was.
She gave one of my breasts a squeeze, making me yelp.
“You tell me a bloke that has got a set of these, and I’ll believe you”, she said, annoyed, giving my breasts another slap. “I think it’s just your version of ‘Not tonight, I’ve got a headache…’”
Ruby stomped off into the bedroom, slamming the door behind her. So much for our wedding night…
I really hated hurting Ruby’s feelings, but I knew that I was right. What the hell had happened to me? I needed to find out. I found a phone on the side, that unlocked when I looked at it. Trouble was, it belonged to ‘Sammie Taylor’…
Accessing the internet, I did a search for ‘Sam Taylor, scientist and author’. I found my papers that I’d submitted for the journals.
Happy at least that I wasn’t imagining things, I then tried searching for ‘Sammie Taylor’…
My mouth dropped open.
Sammie Taylor was a high society supermodel. She was on the same per day that I earned in a year. She had also just got married to her manager, Ruby.
It was at that point that I saw my reflection in the phone’s screen…
With a shriek, I dived into the bathroom. No, it couldn’t be…!
Sammie Taylor’s face stared back at me from the mirror…
Was I going mad? This couldn’t be me. I was Sam Taylor! It all got a bit too much for me, and I collapsed, sobbing, onto the bathroom floor…
Ruby tried to get in, but I’d locked the door. She banged on it, yelling at me to unlock it, then kicked it in. She just hugged me as I wailed, then called the emergency services, convinced I’d done something stupid or taken something I shouldn’t have…
The paramedic had to sedate me, I was hysterical, not making any sense.
When they got me to hospital, I was still shaking and twisting my head from side to side, as if I was in the grip of a bad nightmare.
Ruby never left my side. The nurses tried to get her to sleep, at least to go to the cafeteria for something, but she wouldn’t have it. Someone found her a dressing gown to wear, as she had jumped into the ambulance with me in her nightwear.
“I’m not leaving my wife”, she said. “Also, what bastard spikes a woman’s drink on her wedding day…??”
The nurse, realising something was very wrong, called the police.
Debbie soon turned up. As a WPC from the local station, she usually got the job of interviewing women, much to her chagrin. It was going to get very interesting this time, however. Debbie was also my (Sam’s) sister…
I first knew Debbie was there hours later, when I slowly regained consciousness.
“Hi, Debs”, I said, seeing her. “Fancy meeting you here…!”
“Have we met?”, asked Debbie, confused. “I’m sure I’d remember a beautiful woman like you. Oh yes, you were on the TV last month. The catwalk show.”
“Don’t be a dork, Debbie”, I said. “You always were a bit slow on the uptake. It’s me, Sam.”
“Not looking or sounding like that, it isn’t”, she said. “Anyway, you can’t be. My brother died nine months ago, in a plane crash.”
“Oh, the flight to Namibia, for the authors in art project”, I said. “So that’s when everything went, pardon the expression, tits up…!”
It was her turn for her mouth to drop open. “How the hell…!”
“I said goodbye to you at the airport”, I said. “I also told you to stop hanging about and marry Steve, before you lost him.”
“No… no…”, Debbie said. “You can’t be Sam! He’s dead! I went to his funeral, for fuck’s sake!”
I just smiled sweetly.
“Did you see a body…?”
Debbie and I bounced ideas off each other for a while, until I saw what it was doing to Ruby. Telling Debbie that we needed to take a break I reached out to Ruby.
“Do you mind giving me a hug”, I asked, nervously. “This is all getting a bit much for me…!”
Ruby smiled. “I’m not surprised, Sammie”, she said, snuggling down by my side.
By the time the nurse came back in the room, we were asleep next to each other…
The nurses finally convinced Ruby to go and get something to eat. When she did, Debbie came back in the room.
“No matter who I am”, I said, “I care about Ruby, and I’m not having her upset. Is that clear?”
“Perfectly”, said Debbie. “Now, have you any memories as Sammie, as opposed to Sam?”
“I would have said no, earlier”, I said. “However, I do remember the ‘Catwalk Show’ that you mentioned. It was where I first met up with Ruby. Everything between the airport and then, as well as then and now, is gone. I’ve also got no memories as Sam for the same period so, I’m sorry, I can’t tell you what happened.”
Debbie swore. “That’s not going to make my job any easier.”
A nurse then came into the room.
“I think you both need to hear this”, she said. “According to your medical records, Ms Taylor, your body matches up almost perfectly with the records we have for you. However, there is an anomaly; there is a drug in your system that we can’t identify.”
“Could that be what’s screwing with her memory?”, Debbie asked.
“Quite possibly. We’re going to have to keep her in for a while. I’ve got special permission for her wife to stay, too. I think Ruby needs keeping an eye on as well. I’m worried about her…”
I was instantly alert.
“What’s wrong with my wife?”, I asked, concerned.
“I’m convinced she thinks all this is her fault”, the nurse said. “I’m worried about her.”
“Speaking of Ruby”, I said, “shouldn’t she be back from the cafeteria by now…?”
Before anyone could stop me, I was out of bed and out the door, just wearing a ‘paper dress’.
Following the signs, I quickly found the café. Ruby was still there, sitting on her own, staring out of the window, crying quietly.
I got close enough to hear what she was saying, over and over again… “I’m so sorry…”
Ruby saw my reflection in the window, turned, and flew into my arms.
“I should have been there for you!”, she wailed. “This is all my fault.”
“Did you snatch me off of my crashed plane? Did you kidnap me? No.”, I said. “The only thing you really did for me is love me, then marry me.”
I grabbed her tightly and hung onto her for all I was worth.
“Promise me you won’t do anything stupid”, I said. “Promise me!”
“I promise”, she said, in a little, quiet voice. “Now, lets get you back to bed…”
Ruby, Debbie and I decided the next thing to do was find out what had happened to me. We also decided that we were all going to do that together…
The nurse looked in every now and then, checking on us. She was really pleased about how Ruby now looked. So was I. I had already decided, whatever happened, that I was sticking to Ruby, no matter what. I told her that. She squealed in delight, then hugged me as hard as she could…
The doctors let us go home the next day, as long as I ‘saw someone’. Ruby said she’d book the appointment, with a meaningful look at me to hint what might happen if I didn’t go. Only problem was they still hadn’t identified that mysterious drug in my system…
I was getting used to being ‘Sammie’, as well as having Ruby around. I didn’t want to rock the boat; I told her that over dinner, the next evening.
“What about Debbie?”, Ruby asked. “Doesn’t she have a right to know what’s happened to her brother?”
“How can I tell her anything?”, I said. “Even I don’t know what happened, and supposedly I was there!”
Ruby agreed that that was a real problem…
We both talked on, well into the night.
I dropped off to sleep on the sofa. Ruby had to put me to bed…
The dreams then came.
I woke up literally screaming…
Crying, Ruby held me fast, hugging me for all she was worth…
That had been the last straw for Ruby. Next morning, she hurriedly made some calls. She then almost slung me over her shoulder and dragged me to an office downtown. Dr Evelyn Canter, Psychologist.
I refused to go in. She literally pushed me into the office, going in with me.
“She won’t speak for herself”, Ruby explained. “Someone’s got to get her to open up, or she’ll go mad.”
It was seeing that Ruby was really concerned about me that made me start talking…
Dr Canter said it was very unusual for her to psychoanalyse someone with her wife present; I said I had no secrets from Ruby, at least none I knew in my current condition. This comment got Evelyn really intrigued, so I explained about the Sam and Sammie ‘conundrum’.
Evelyn had never heard of such a detailed change in a person.
“Starting from a practical and logical point of view, you’re definitely female”, she said. “Is there any sign of you undergoing any type of surgery? Any signs at all that you were once male?”
“No, not at all”, I said. “I can’t even remember any scars. It’s just mentally, as well as knowledge that I just wouldn’t have if I was just Sammie. My memory as Sam is a lot more complete; when I first woke up as Sammie, I didn’t ‘know’ her at all.”
“That’s true”, Ruby added, helpfully. “I thought someone had slipped her something at the nightclub party we went to.”
Evelyn paused for a moment, thoughtful.
“That’s a very good point, Ruby”, she said. “You gave me permission to access your medical records. I think the solution to this is a lot simpler than you think…”
“Bear with me”, she continued. “I think this…”, she pointed at me, “is Sammie. Just Sammie, with a case of multiple personality disorder deliberately brought about by the mystery drug in her system. The drug, itself, somehow contains the memories of Sam, almost up to the point of the accident…”
Suddenly, everything fell together.
I shot upright.
“Those bastards!”, I cried.
Before either Ruby or Evelyn could stop me, I raced out of the office, both of them in hot pursuit. Ruby had the sense of mind to phone the police as she ran…
It was after they worked out where I was heading, they realised what was going on…
I kicked in the door at the downtown lab where ‘Sam’ used to work. The security guard went to get up to stop me.
“Don’t you bloody dare!”, I yelled. “I know what you did…!”
“I was only following orders!”, he wailed. He had injected me with the drug at the club…
It was a revolutionary technique, highly experimental; one I (Sam) had designed, in fact. I had developed a means of encoding memory into DNA. I had designed it so that I was regularly ‘backed up’ into a solution that could be injected into a compatible host. It just happened that Sammie was the first person that scanned as compatible in the club. The reason for using the club was, if the procedure didn’t work, any side-effects could be blamed on someone taking something they shouldn’t…
By then, Evelyn and Ruby had caught up with me, as the three of us broke into the director’s office…
“Was this your idea, Steve?”, I yelled. “Was it you that couldn’t do without me here?”
“Sam, I…”, Steve Hanson, the director, said. “We needed your knowledge to complete the…Ufff!”
Ruby had had enough. She had stormed round the desk, and belted Steve as hard as she could.
“You’ve fucked up my wife!”, she screamed. “You bastard! She almost died! She nearly went insane! And all you were concerned about was your work! Fix this! Now!”
Holding his hands up to defend himself from Ruby, Steve said, “I don’t need to do anything. It will wear off in about a week or so, if Sammie doesn’t get another dose of the drug. I just couldn’t lose the technology. I had no idea it would be this detrimental to its new host. If it is, we can’t use it, anyway…”
He looked at me. “Sam, I’m sorry. Please, believe me.”
“The name is Sammie, you bastard”, I said, belting him as well…
Over the next few days, Sam faded, gradually, and my previous memories as Sammie gradually came back. I held on to everything long enough to explain what had happened to Debbie. She cried, softly, then embraced me. The drug technology was scrapped; the company closed down. Nobody else would have to go through what I did.
Ruby and I then went back to our own life, together…
