I’d managed to get a job, at last, after six months searching for one.
I’d applied for all sorts of things; firstly, jobs that fitted my education, then jobs that fitted my experience, then any old thing as I got desperate.
The lady at the costume shop, Maggie, just wanted an assistant. No dealing with the public, she handled all that, just stocking the shelves, keeping the storeroom tidy, and anything else within reason. I jumped at it, especially the money she was offering.
First day there, I was sneezing my head off. The storeroom hadn’t been cleaned for years, and the dust was incredible. I wasn’t allergic, it was just so much…
Maggie came out to see if I was ok, I sneezed so much.
“Please let me keep the job, Mrs. Bridges!”, I said, plaintively. “I am sorry, there’s just so much dust! Anyone would be sneezing their head off.”
As if to prove my point, she started sneezing as well.
Laughing, quietly, she said, “I see what you mean! Anyway, I might have a solution for it. It’s a bit unorthodox, but as you’re not in a public facing position it won’t matter.”
She went away for a minute and came back with… something.
“It’s a fully transparent bodysuit”, she said. “It was for one of the dance troupes. They wanted to make a dancer’s skin look artificial as they were playing an android. It’s designed for long term wear, and it has filters in the nose. They were put there to make the wearer look more artificial, as well as stopping the suit from fogging up.”
“It’s a ‘one size fits all’”, she said, tossing it to me. “You’ll need to strip down to your underwear, though.”
Desperate to keep the job, I found the breakroom, stripped down and put the suit on. Going to go back to work, I saw the breasts drooping down the front of the suit. It was designed for a woman…
Luckily, my overall apron, that Maggie had already given me, covered the empty breasts up fine, and I was soon back at work, not sneezing.
The first day went fine, I finished when the store closed, changed and went home as usual.
Next morning, however, when I went to start work, I noticed that my apron had gone; instead, a dress uniform was waiting for me, in exactly the right size, as well as the transparent suit.
“Sorry”, Maggie said. “Forgot to say; if you wear one of those transparent suits for an extended period you need to give the breast area room to move, or it can affect your breathing. I heard you breathing heavily when you finished yesterday, and it reminded me.”
The uniform dress had plenty of room to accommodate the plastic breasts without flattening them.
I couldn’t really see how wearing the dress would make the suit any better; I’d just been breathing heavily because I wasn’t used to a full day’s work. Still, Maggie was in charge, and I really wanted the job, so I put the suit on, put the uniform over the top and got to work.
Surprisingly, I did find it a lot easier to breathe; however, other things were happening that I hadn’t noticed…
Ever so slowly, the breasts were filling out. The suit itself was also no longer clear/transparent, it had started to take on a faint skin tone sheen…
My first real surprise was at the end of the second day, when I went to change to go home.
The dress zip was stuck, somehow. It wouldn’t budge at all. I tried lifting the dress off over my head, but it seemed to be stuck to the suit, somehow. I then caught sight of myself in a mirror…
You could have heard the shriek from the other end of the road, never mind the front of the shop!
Maggie came rushing in.
“What’s up, love?”, she asked. “Are you ok? Cut yourself, or something?”
“Look at me!”, I wailed. “I’m a woman!”
“Gosh!”, said Maggie, sarcastically. “I’d never have guessed that. What gave it away?”
“I wasn’t when I started working for you!”, I cried. “I was a man!”
“Don’t be stupid!”, said Maggie. “If you were a man, why are you wearing a dress! Also, you’re completely the wrong shape for a man!”
Maggie reached over and undid the zip on the dress.
“You’re going to tell me that men have got those, as well”, she said, pointing at my breasts, now tucked neatly under a white bra.
“You gave me a special suit to wear because of the dust!”, I said, realising myself how stupid it sounded.
“And a bra, too, I suppose”, Maggie said. “Don’t be daft, lass!”
Even I was beginning to doubt myself, now. Especially when I saw my clothes hanging in the break room. A polo neck jumper, a skirt and a leather coat.
I just sagged and sat down on the first available seat in the break room.
“I’m sorry”, I said. “I’ve got no idea what’s going on. I was sure I was a man…”
Maggie just hugged me.
“You’re not used to being back at work”, she said. “Nerves and the pressure are getting to you. Tell you what, finish early, I’ll pay you for a full day. See you tomorrow at 0830.”
“Thank you, Mrs Bridges, I really appreciate it!”, I said. “See you tomorrow.”
I changed from my work dress into my normal clothes, smiling, and went home…
The plastic suit had completely integrated itself into my body, completely unknown to me. It had replaced the top layer of my skin, turned my ‘boy parts’ into ‘girl parts’ and given me a well-padded rear and a sweet pert set of breasts, but it had only been able to do that when I uncovered the breasts and gave them room to work. My hair was past my shoulders and a lovely inky black, my eyes were also now blue instead of their original green. My new id and bank cards in my wallet showed me as female, as did my mobile phone.
When I got in for supper mum was waiting for me. Maggie had called her first. “Your daughter is on her way home”, she had said.
Mum was overjoyed. She’d always wanted a daughter; I’d been a useless waste of space as a son…
