A piece from a suggestion by @Barnes18 (I hope you like it...!)

The house seemed so empty, now. No-one to talk to; reminders everywhere…

It had happened suddenly. Mum had just been visiting friends, up north, her first night away for ages.

Then came news of the plane crash…

I’d checked the flight number, over and over, then called the airline.

The lady at the other end had cried as she gave me the news. No survivors, and my mother had definitely been on the plane.

I just collapsed, in shock…

Something inside me snapped, then.

I couldn’t go on without mum, so mum would have to come back, somehow…

Digging around the house, I got a set of her clothes together and tried them on. It felt calming already but still wasn’t quite right.

Suddenly, I had a crazy idea.

We still had all my sister’s bits and pieces from her film-making and acting courses that she had done, before she got her ‘big break’ in the industry and moved away. That meant a load of wigs and other bits. Digging through these, I suddenly came across a complete female bodysuit…

The face that stared back at me was my mothers!

Ginny must have used her as a model when designing the suit for a project that never came about, or as for coursework. It was detail perfect and looked like she did about three to four years ago.

I had to try it.

Filling the breasts out with a couple of silicone forms also in the pile of parts (Ginny had got me to play a girl, once, for a laugh at a party) I squeezed myself into the suit. I had, however, not realised how form fitting it was, how tight it was and how impossible it would be to get out of it without help…

As I finally slipped inside it, I heard a click from behind me…

I reached round to the back.

The seam had gone. Completely.

“What the…?”, I said, then gasped. I was speaking with my mother’s voice…!

The suit was completely sealed shut. I was trapped as my own mother…

Fifteen minutes later, after a load of pulling and tugging, I had got nowhere. At the same time, I’d found a small note in the bottom of the bodysuit’s bag, in Ginny’s handwriting…

“Note to self: DO NOT USE this suit. The unlocking remote has died, and the replacement parts for it are no longer available. Anyone who puts on this suit will be sealed in there permanently.”

I just sagged to my knees, crying. I’d got my mother back. Now I’d have to live with the choice…

Seeing as I was now stuck as my mother, I put the clothes that I had chosen back on. What was I going to do now? How could I explain the ‘fact’ that my mother was back, and I was gone?

Obviously, if I could have removed the suit, I could have changed between ‘us’ as needed, but that wasn’t an option.

Only choice, really, was to text Ginny…

Ginny came over about an hour later. She was in-between shoots, and hadn’t heard about the plane crash yet, as the airline hadn’t got her contact information.

She walked through the door, looked about, and saw me.

“Hi Mum!”, she said. “Steve texted me and asked me to come quickly. What’s up?”

“I think you’d better sit down…”, I said.

As I told her the story, showing her the news articles about the crash, her face changed from puzzlement to shock to grief, then anger.

She then threw her arms around me, and sobbed…

In between sobs, Ginny said she understood why I’d done what I had, but she was still sorry that she couldn’t help me. The suit was on for life…

“Luckily, it acts just like normal skin”, she said. “It was designed for long-term use, so that someone could fill in if needed anytime, without having to keep changing makeup and prosthetics, etc. However, it does mean that you’re now effectively your mother for the rest of your life…”
