Pete was now really confused.

He’d gone from having a girlfriend, to having a girlfriend that attacked him, to having two girlfriends that were, essentially, the same person.

As he looked at HAH One, trying to work out what to say, he saw her close her eyes for a second, and the light on the collar turned yellow.

“Hope you sorted everything out with her”, said Danni, “after all, she’s keeping me alive, and vice versa.”

“Er… Yes…”, said Pete, hesitantly.

“What’s that supposed to mean…?”, said Danni suspiciously. “Oh no, she hasn’t caused trouble again, has she?”

This told Pete that, essentially, Danni was suffering from the equivalent of Multiple Personality Disorder. However, so was HAH One. Neither had any idea of what the other was thinking. Pete, however, decided to ask a question to confirm this.

“You mean you’ve got no idea what she’s said to me, or what she’s thinking?”

“None at all”, said Danni. “When she’s active, I’m just effectively asleep in my own body, and the same is true for her. If she want’s me to know something system related, she can talk to me and I can ask her to let me out if I need to, but when one of us is in charge the other has no idea what’s going on.”

Pete was in a real quandary. He didn’t want to lie to Danni but, at the same time, he didn’t want her to get stressed out…

In the end, he decided to tell her the truth.

“HAH One didn’t cause any trouble. Quite the opposite, in fact. Turns out she’s quite sweet on me…”

“What!”, shrieked Danni. “The bitch! Making a move on my boyfriend…!”

“Wait, wait, wait…”, said Pete. “Essentially, you’re both the same person. There must be some of your feelings and emotions bleeding through. HAH One likes me because you like me.”

“I don’t just ‘like’ you, you idiot, I love you!”, said Danni. “And now, on top of everything else, she’s making a move on you…”

Crying, Danni got up and ran from the room.

Angela, having left Doctor Bailey’s office, was going to the canteen to catch up with Danni and Pete when Danni came flying past her, crying her eyes out, dived into her room and slammed the door.

“Danni! Danni, what’s wrong?”, Angela called, knocking on the door.

“Sod off! Leave me alone!”, came the tearful cry.

“Danni, please! Open the door! I want to help.”, Angela said.

“How the hell can you help?”, replied Danni. “You caused the problem! Now clear off and leave me alone! You’ve done enough damage already!”

Upset now herself, Angela stomped off back to the canteen and planted herself down at the table with Pete.

“What the hell have you done now?”, she asked. “You’re turning out to be nothing but trouble for my daughter…”

Hesitantly, Pete slowly explained the situation to Angela, who was getting angrier and more disbelieving by the minute.

“No, I’m sorry, but that just can’t happen”, Angela said. “HAH One is a computer AI, she can’t have emotions. There’s no way she can be your girlfriend as well as Danni.”

“I’m telling you, that’s what she said!”, said Pete. “She reached out, took my hand, and said it. I said to Danni it might be some emotional bleed over between them, but she said that she’s got no awareness of HAH One, and vice versa.”

At the same time, HAH One walked back into the room (her collar was shining blue).

“Angela, Pete, I have a problem. Danni has just taken an overdose of the anti-depressants that you, Angela, were prescribed. I couldn’t stop her, but I am in the process of purging the drugs from her system.”

This was enough of a shock, then HAH One said something that nobody expected…

“I’m scared. Danni tried to kill us, and I don’t want to die. Help me…!”

To everyone’s amazement, HAH One started to cry, and sagged to her knees on the floor, wailing…

Angela’s frantic call to Doctor Bailey brought her quickly into the canteen, and HAH One was quickly carried into the medical bay. Her stomach was then pumped out.

All through the process, the light on her collar remained blue, but she never stopped crying…

After Doctor Bailey had checked her over, Angela went to put her into standby mode, so she could get some sleep.

“No, please don’t”, HAH One said. “If you do, Danni might become dominant, and she may try again. I’m doing all I can to keep her from taking over and trying again…”

For the next few hours, Angela never left her side. Pete paced up and down in the corridor.

“It’s all my fault”, he said. I never should have told her…”
