It was a million to one accident…

Danni Taylor, a university sciences major, was visiting her mother, Angela, at the research unit where she worked.

She’d just come into the lab where her mother worked as a computer technician.

“Hi, Danni”, said Angela.

Danni was only distracted for a second. That was all it took…

Her foot caught against one of the legs of the bench she was walking past, and she tripped.

Unable to stop herself, Danni fell. Just by sheer chance, she landed in the one place she shouldn’t have…!

Circuits arced. Power surged through Danni, who screamed once, then collapsed.

“Danni!”, Angela yelled, racing over.

One of the other technicians had managed to call the first aid team, and a nurse came racing in. Even so, there didn’t seem to be anything she could do and Danni was taken down to the medical centre at the research unit, where Doctor Bailey could give her a thorough examination.

After intensive tests, she slowly straightened and shook her head.

“I’m so sorry, Ange, there’s nothing I can do.”, the Doctor said, tears in her eyes. “Her whole mind is gone. Wiped completely. All the EEG lines except the Autonomic nervous system are flat. Her body is still alive, but she’s not in there anymore…”

Angela broke down and collapsed, had to be sedated and ended up on the next bunk to her daughter.

While she was unconscious, various ideas went through her mind. Suddenly, she sat bolt upright.

“Of course!”, she said. “The HAH project.”

They had been waiting for a ‘volunteer’ to try the new system out, a brain-dead casualty that had donated their body to science. Now it would be a way for her daughter to live again.

Normally, Angela would have never considered doing such a thing, but the thought of living without her daughter was just too much for her and she’d had a semi-breakdown.

With a determined look on her face and before anyone could stop her, Angela grabbed the bunk and wheeled it back into the lab.

In the lab, working feverishly, Angela fitted Danni with a collar. The collar bedded itself firmly around her neck and connected into her spine. She then connected a lead between the collar and the nearest computer bank.

Typing frantically, Angela initiated the software that activated the HAH systems.

HAH stood for Human Android Hybrid. Danni was about to become the first ‘test subject’ of the project.

Nothing seemed to happen, then Danni sat up on the bunk…
