"It's getting kind of late again, Gretchen."
Gretchen wrinkles her nose at the constant lack of being referred to as "Doctor". "I know this, Kaitlyn. I just," she rubs her eye under her glasses, "I do not know that I can get used to this, this, situation we are in."
Kaitlyn lowers her head a little bit, contemplating some random spot on their sweatpants. "Can't say I don't share the feeling. I miss being alone when I want it. I miss Justin. I miss my dad." She sniffs in a little air. "I came to you cause I want to give him his arm back..."
Gretchen softens a little bit, trying to ease some of the tension built up in their shared shoulders. "Your father is proud of you," she offers with the closest thing her clipped and stern voice have to resembling compassion. "You are very devoted to him, and it shows. Now, Justin, though..."
"What about him?" Kaitlyn shot back, perhaps a little more forcefully than she'd meant.
"I will simply say that I was not impressed with that boy", she replied with a touch of sharpness.
"Well yeah!" Kaitlyn pleaded. "His first time seeing me since the accident and you were making it way worse for him." She subconsciously curled her left hand into a fist. "And he's not 'a boy' to me, he's my fiancé."
Gretchen lowered her head, possibly sensing Kaitlyn's hand movement. She let out a large sigh. "I am sorry, mädchen. I will try to be more kind when we see him next."
"I just want everything to be ok again." She cringed at being called a "little girl" in German yet again, but decided to keep the peace.
"As do I. Now, let's get back into this study. I am quite intrigued by what Doctors Morgan and Burke did in this last procedure..."
