Forked Path was started by Sarah and Sierra in their Colorado home, combining heartfelt songwriting and memorable lyrics about life. Sarah was somewhat of an autistic savant growing up, her shy demeanor belying an immense natural skill at music. Sierra, the more outgoing of the two, began to encourage her sister's talents, helping Sarah get over her huge stage fright, and they immediately began to take off.

Sierra says the band's name came from their life experience: "we had to make a choice, either let our situation get us down, or make something of ourselves. It was a fork in the road and we took the best way!"
