One day, a random pop-up appeared for a "Reality Remote," on sale for just 99 cents, but the countdown was at 29 seconds. Without much time to decide, Peter impulsively bought it, thinking it was a bargain even if it seemed like a load of crap. The ad claimed the remote could change reality, which Peter found hard to believe, but for less than a dollar, he figured it was worth a shot.

The remote arrived just as Peter and his buddy Mark were set to go to Boracay, Philippines. Peter took it out of the packaging in the taxi on the way to the airport. It looked like a cheap toy remote made of plastic.

Absentmindedly, he tossed it into his carry-on and rushed out of the taxi when they arrived at the airport. They were running late and had to hurry through security. After a few flights and a layover, they finally made it to Boracay.

Excited to explore the local cuisine, they went out to eat at a roadside eatery opposite the beach. Mark, being of Filipino descent but raised in the States, assured Peter that the best food was found in these local spots. As they waited for their food, Peter remembered the remote and took it out to examine it more closely.
