“So, what did you say this app was?” Jay asked, curious, staring at Ally’s phone.

“FaceSnap! It’s like, some sort of selfie app, but it has a bunch of really cool filters on it.” Ally explained.

“…and what makes this any different from all the other selfie apps out there?”

Ally simply grinned. “Let’s take a selfie, and you’ll see.”

“Okay…” Jay frowned. She slid up beside Ally’s left and looked at her phone. “What filter are you using?”

“A face swap filter!” Ally answered, pointing at the screen. “Look, it previews the results.”

“Right. I guess that’s kinda funny.” Jay smiled a little, watching her face on Ally’s head move. She made a silly face. “Take the selfie!”

Ally clicked the button, grinning all the while. Jay blinked, startled by the flash of light.

“Gah, why was the flash on?! It’s bright out!” Jay shouted in protest, blinking furiously. When she opened her eyes, she noticed that her perspective seemed to have shifted a little in the meantime. Her line of sight didn’t seem to be moving with the way she moved her head. “Wait, what’s happening?”

Jay found her face turning to the left, and she was greeted by a strange sight. It was her own head, but with Ally’s face on it. Her eyes widened. She watched as Ally raised her hands and grabbed ahold of Jay’s head, turning it to face her.

“Ta-da!” Ally giggled.

“What… did we actually swap faces?” Jay’s eyes grew wide in amazement.

“Yeah!” Ally grinned, “Though… we still control our own faces. My face is on your head, and yours is on mine!”

“This is so awesome!” Jay shrieked in excitement, before stopping herself. “Wait, we can undo this, right?”

“Of course.” Ally laughed. She held up her phone in front of Jay’s head so she could look at it, and pressed a button. There was another flash of light, and the girls found themselves with their own faces again. “The app saves copies of our default faces.”

“Default.” Jay giggled, “Like they’re so easily modified.”

“Well, yeah, with the app.” Ally grinned, “Here, look at all these filters!”

Jay took Ally’s phone in her hands and swiped through the gallery. “Whoah… that’s a lot. These are so weird, too! Ooh, can I try this one?”

“Go for it.”

Jay eagerly held the phone up and snapped off a selfie. When the flash of light receded, Ally noticed that Jay’s face was now upside-down.

“Oh, man, this is so cool.” Jay laughed, “Look at my face!”

“Nice.” Ally grinned, as she accepted her phone back from Jay. “Here, this one’s one of my favorites so far.”

Ally posed for a selfie, and her face changed, much to Jay’s amusement. Ally now looked like a cyclops, having one huge eye instead of two separate ones. In fact, her new eye was so big on her face, her nose had vanished to make room for it.

“Holy crap, that’s a big eye.” Jay laughed, “Where’s your nose?”

Ally shrugged, “Don’t seem to need it. In fact, there’s a faceless filter, that just has nothing on it.”

“Ooh, I wanna try it!” Jay’s eyes lit up.

Ally giggled and took the filtered picture of Jay. Jay fell silent, suddenly lacking a face, upside-down or otherwise. Jay’s hands darted up to her head, feeling around her completely blank face.

“Yeah, I wanted to try it too, but I was scared to do it alone.” Ally laughed at Jay’s motions. Jay seemed fine, despite lacking her eyes, nose, and mouth. “Like, what if I couldn’t figure out how to put my face back?”

Jay pointed at her face, and Ally got the point.

“Here, I’ll use another filter.” Ally grinned, selecting a new one.

Jay found her new face had a single eye where her mouth would usually be, and her mouth was on her forehead. Her nose remained in the middle of her face. “Oh my god. This is hilarious.”

“How was not having a face?” Ally asked, curiously.

“That was cool too!” Jay said, brimming with excitement, “I totally wanna do that and go out, or something.”

“Uh… how would you… do that, without eyes?” Ally frowned.

“Oh, I could still see, sorta!” Jay explained, “Like… it wasn’t… normal seeing. I don’t know how to explain it. But I sorta knew where everything was…”

Ally tilted her head, confused. Jay took her phone from here.

“Here, I’ll remove your… eye for you and you can see.” Jay flicked through the filters for one that would do what she wanted.

One quick snap later, and Ally’s giant eye vanished. Instead, all that remained of her face was a giant mouth.

“Oh!” Ally said, startled. “Oh, I can still see!”

“See?” Jay said.

“Yeah… okay, cool! I don’t have to worry about losing track of my phone, then.” Ally said, somewhat relieved.

“I guess not.” Jay laughed. “But hey, if you really wanna see…” Jay flicked to another filter, and took a shot of Ally.

Ally blinked. Multiple times. Rapidly. She had eyes again. Eyes, and nothing else. Her face was simply littered with eyes, so many that she couldn’t even count them.

“Jesus, that’s way more than I thought there’d be.” Jay said, taken aback. Her eyes seemed to be moving independently. “Can you… like, control all of them?”

Ally shrugged in response, and gave a half-nod.

“This is kinda too weird, even for me. Mind if I get rid of some?” Jay suggested, pointing to Ally’s phone.

Ally nodded enthusiastically, and Jay took another picture. Ally blinked. Her face was nearly back to normal, except instead of a nose, she had a bellybutton.

“What the… I didn’t even know that was possible!” Ally frowned, as she poked at the bellybutton on her face.

“That’s kinda hilarious.” Jay giggled. She pulled out her own phone. “Alright, what was the app name again? I gotta get this too!”

“FaceSnap, but… it’s kinda expensive.” Ally warned.

“Who cares, worth it. Downloading!” Jay grinned.

Ally giggled. “Here, let me do another one on you in the meantime.”

Jay looked up and smiled into Ally’s camera. When the flash had subsided, she was confused. “What… why is everything weird. Weirder than before, I mean.”

Ally giggled, and showed Jay the picture she took. Jay’s face was in a normal arrangement, but it appeared that she had a single large eye in the place of her mouth, and two small mouths in place of her eyes. But, when she opened her lips, her eyes peeked out from behind them, and when her eyelid opened up, you could see a row of teeth.

“This is so crazy.” Jay said, nearly speechless. “My lips! Or eyes! Or… whatever you’d call them now.” Jay broke out into giggles.

“Right?” Ally laughed, as Jay took her phone from her. “Hey!”

“What, mine’s still downloading.” Jay explained, picking out a filter. “Ooh, this looks fun.”

Ally posed, and her face changed once more under the flash. She blinked. Everything was weird. “What was it?”

Jay simply showed Ally the picture. Her face now looked like it had been scattered apart, her eyes, nose, and mouth, in seemingly totally random places. It was as if someone had just sprinkled them onto her face, but from three feet away, and they just fell on at random. Her left eye was way up on the side of her cheek, her mouth was lopsided, diagonally across her brow. Her nose was askew, on her other cheek, and her remaining eye sat down near her chin.

“Oh my god, this is great. It’s a random filter?”

“Yeah, it’s different every time, apparently.” Jay grinned, “Watch!” Jay took a picture of herself, and sure enough, her face ended up completely different from Ally’s. Her eyes had managed to end up on completely opposite sides, her nose was upside-down over her chin, and her mouth was nearly vertical, over where her left eye should have been.

The girls continued taking pictures using the same filter, in tears with laughter as their faces were rearranged at random.

The laughter was broken up by Jay’s phone beeping. “Oh, that was fast! Hey, there’s a section of filters specifically for two people, like the face swap one. Wanna try these out?”

“Yeah!” Ally said, excitedly. “Let’s put our faces back to normal, first.”

“Don’t you mean ‘default’?” Jay giggled, as Ally tapped on her phone. Both girls found their faces back in their ‘default’ arrangements.

Jay slid up beside Ally again and held up her phone for a selfie. The girls smiled into the camera as the flash went off again.

“What was this one called?” Ally asked.

“Split Decision.” Jay giggled.

The two girls now each possessed only half a face. Jay had the right half of her face, on the left side of her face, and Ally had the opposite. When the two girls pressed their heads next to each other, it looked like they had a single face spread across both their heads.

“That’s a great pic.” Ally laughed. “What else is there?”

“Ooh, this might be fun.” Jay grinned. “All for One.”

Another flash of light, and Ally’s face appeared on Jay’s head again. But this time, Jay’s face was also still on her head. Jay had four eyes now, both hers and Ally’s. Their two noses were pushed together in the center, and Jay’s mouth had been shifted way over to the left, so that there was room for Ally’s on the right. Their new shared face was nearly symmetrical, if it weren’t for that the left side had Jay’s eye above Ally’s, and the right side had Ally’s above Jay’s.

“You stole my face!” Ally mock-protested, laughing. Her own head was blank and featureless. “This is insane, your face is way too crowded now!”

“I wonder if this would work with three people?” Jay pondered.

“There’s not enough room on your face!” Ally pointed out.

“I’m sure the app could find a way.” Jay grinned, raising a hand to feel her new facial features.

Ally swatted her hand away. “Stop poking at my face!”

“Hey, it’s my face, now. You’re just tagging along.” Jay laughed.

“Do something else!” Ally urged.

“Alright… oh, this is the… opposite, apparently? One for All…?” Jay flipped to the filter, and snapped the selfie.

Jay’s face went from overcrowded to oversimplified in a flash. Now, she simply had one big mouth. Ally, in comparison, only had an eye.

“This is kinda lame, why is this a two-person filter?” Jay frowned, studying the descriptive text. “Oh, apparently it randomizes, and works better with a large group. I guess that makes sense.”

Ally shrugged.

“Okay, different one, here. The Average?”

Jay and Ally now found themselves each possessing a full face, in the normal arrangement.

“Uh… did that do anything?” Jay asked.

“You look different.” Ally pointed out, “Actually, we both have the same face… but it’s neither of our faces.”

“Oh, I get it.” Jay said, “It averaged out our faces. So this is what we’d look like if our faces were mixed together.”

“Hm. That’s kinda neat.” Ally smiled, “We look cute!”

“We should go out like this sometime, tell people we’re twins.”

“That’d be funny.” Ally giggled.

“Oh hey, this one looks like that shared face one, but… different.” Jay took another picture.

Now, Jay’s face had four eyes on it again, hers and Ally’s, but it was devoid of any other features. Instead, Ally’s face bore both of their noses, and their mouths.

“Oh, this is much better than just having both of our faces on me alone.” Jay giggled, “It’s so much less crowded.”

“I bet.” Ally laughed. “Hey, if you ever feel like your face is too much, I’d be more than happy to take some of it.”

Jay let out a peal of laughter. “Sure, take whatever you want!”

“Hey, you mean it?” Ally grinned, as she pulled out her own phone. “We can make our own custom filters.”

“Wait, really?” Jay’s eyes widened, as she searched her own app for the feature. “Oh, cool! Let’s make one and upload it!”

“Sure!” Ally giggled, booting up the interface. To the girls’ delight, it was very simple to navigate, easily working via drag and drop.

“What should we do?” Jay asked, excitedly. “Ooh, can we make one of those two-person filters, those are fun.”

“Um… we can, but it’s a paid feature.” Ally frowned, disappointed.

“Oh, psh.” Jay rolled her eyes, and promptly paid for it on her own phone.

“…should we talk about your money spending habits…?” Ally asked, concerned.

“I’m fine, thanks.” Jay giggled, holding up her phone. “Here. Oooh, there’s a ‘live test’ feature, too!”

“What does that mean?”

“It means we can mess with our faces and see the results in real time!” Jay grinned, enabling the feature.

“Oh!” Ally perked up. She reached to Jay’s phone, and tapped on the picture of her own nose, dragging it upwards, above her eyes, onto her forehead. She laughed as the nose on her face followed suit, slowly sliding up between her eyes, to come to rest where she had left it on her forehead. “Oh my god, this is amazing.”

Jay simply grinned, as she selected her own mouth, spinning it upside-down, laughing as her actual mouth rotated in place to match.

“So, you wanted some of my face, right?” Jay laughed.

“Oh, right!” Ally grinned. She selected Jay’s left eye, and dragged it over to the display of her face, dropping it down where her nose used to be.

Jay frowned, “My eye’s not literally going to fly over to your face, is it?”

That question was answered as Jay’s eye simply vanished, and reappeared on Ally’s face.

“Well, that works.” Ally giggled. “Hey, we can actually choose who has control of it.”

“What?”

“See, I can actually own your eye.” Ally grinned, selecting the option that let her take control of the rogue eye.

Jay was startled, suddenly losing sight in her left eye. “Whoah. I can’t feel it anymore.”

“I can!” Ally practically sang out. She quickly stole Jay’s nose, too.

“Hey, wait a minute.” Jay frowned, as she lost feeling in her nose.

“What? You said I could take as much of your face as I wanted.” Ally giggled.

“I guess. I didn’t think you could take control away from me though.” Jay muttered.

“Oh, relax, will you?” Ally laughed, “Here, you can just give yourself parts back.” Ally dragged a new eye onto where she stole Jay’s from. As it appeared on Jay’s face, it took the appearance of Jay’s normal eyes.

“This is another right eye, genius!” Jay giggled.

“Well, excuse me for trying to help.” Ally rolled all three of her eyes. “I’ll just take all your eyes then, if you’re unhappy.”

“No, no.” Jay laughed, despite herself. “I’ll live with two right eyes.”

The girls spent the next hour or so messing with their faces, dragging bits this way and that, swapping bits, adding new ones, or removing their originals. Jay had to interrupt Ally in the middle of erasing her mouth to remind her that they were supposed to be making a filter to upload.

“Oh, right.” Ally laughed, “I totally forgot.”

“Right?” Jay giggled, “So… what should we do?”

“Let’s do a both faces on one head thing, those seem really popular.” Ally suggested.

“Alright…” Jay grinned, as she began dragging bits of her face over to Ally’s face. “Ooh, I got an idea that I don’t think I saw any other filters doing!”

Ally watched as Jay rearranged both of their faces. Jay began by moving Ally’s eyes out of their spots, replacing them with her own eyes. She pulled Ally’s mouth up, above the eyes, onto her forehead, and flipped it upside down. Jay brought her own mouth to where Ally’s just was, except nudged just a little bit lower, to make room for Ally’s eyes, which she flipped upside down and placed right above her mouth. Then, she turned Ally’s nose upside down, and pushed it a little bit farther up her face, and her own nose went below Ally’s, pointed down.

“There!” Jay announced. “Two faces, sorta mirrored, sorta upside-down!”

Ally clapped. “I love it!” she giggled, “Nice touch with having my face be upside-down when it’s on my head.”

“Should we upload this?” Jay grinned.

“Yes!” Ally said, excitedly.

Jay hit the [Upload to Public] button. They watched eagerly as a neat animation of their custom filter was scanned, Matrix-style, and their combined face started disappearing from the bottom up, as the [Upload] bar filled.

“Wait, our face is disappearing too!” Ally’s eyes widened.

Sure enough, Jay’s mouth had begun to disappear from the bottom. “Oh my god, it’s uploading our actual face!” Jay laughed.

“Uploading our face?” Ally goggled, “Wait, so people will be downloading our faces?”

“I mean, as a filter, right?” Jay giggled, “This is kinda funn-” She was cut off as her mouth finished disappearing, and Ally’s eyes began to go.

“I guess it’s a good gag.” Ally laughed, nervously.

The upload sped up, and rapidly consumed the girls face. The upload dinged as it completed. The two girls sat in faceless silence, waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Jay looked down at her phone, and saw their new filter available for download. She hit the download button, and took a new selfie with the filter.

In a flash, their face was back, though this time, Jay was the one who was upside-down on her own head. “I had to redownload our face! All that work for a dumb joke, I love this app!” Jay giggled, and both girls broke down into laughter.
