NOTE:  I did some searches for the meaning or translation of the word 'craupadine'.  Most resulted in returning it with the spelling of 'crapaudine', (1) ulcer on the coronet of a horse, (2) one of the oldest varieties of beetroot.  One search returned the link to an article about "Field Punishement No.1" which was used, mostly, by the British Army prior to the 1920s.  It was not described as a hog-tie but as the soldier standing and affixed to a post, stake or other fixed object with feet tied together and wrists tied behind the object.  Searches for 'corporal punishment in the French Foriegn Legion' did not find anything that could be considered a hog-tie nor did the word 'craupadine' appear.
