Hey, Gena, any of your friends getting married?”

Jim entered his house, which was in disarray as he and his wife were packing up to move. He held a stack of mail in one hand and a fancy oversized pink envelope in the other.

Not that I know of,” said his wife, a scientist. Taking the object from her husband, she turned it around in her hand, marveling at how rich and fancy it looked. The paper was thick and glossy, gilded on the edges, with flowers and curlicues adorning the corners. It was addressed to them in gold letters, and there was no return address. “Who is this from? Maybe someone you know?” Gena asked, ripping open the envelope. It was harder to open than usual, as if the envelope did not want to be ripped...

The invitation, decorated in the same manner, was even more impressive than the envelope it had arrived in. Gena read the information out loud to her husband:

You are cordially invited to CAROLINE's BIRTHDAY PARTY.

Saturday, August 25th, 4 PM

Meet at Caroline's house.

COME AS GOO ARE!!”

'Come as GOO are?' What does that mean?” Jim asked in confusion.

Gena scratched her head. “Well, she likes to turn into gooey stuff when we use Mr. Wintergreen's potions. I guess she's joking around...”

The paper shifted violently, and Gena shrieked as a face appeared on it. “I mean you have to come as goo!” It yelled, prompting Gena to drop the talking stationery to the floor in surprise.

Caroline! You scared the hell out of me!” The scientist glared down at the pink paper that was actually her transformed friend. But it began to giggle, and soon her silly laughter was joined by Jim. Gena smirked. “Thanks a lot, you two. Just laugh at me.”

You should have seen your face!” exclaimed the invitation. “Classic!”

Jim came over and placed his arm around his wife. “It was pretty funny, Gena. Can I pick you up and check you out, Caroline?”

Please!” squeaked the stationery.

Jim, a scientist like his wife, studied the paper in fascination. “What's it like, Caroline? I've never been a piece of paper before.”

Snickering, Gena explained, “Yes, Jim prefers to be aquatic things. It's why we invested in the huge fish tank over there.” Gena motioned toward an impressive fifty-gallon tank. “He's more in the water than out. Sometimes I have to turn into a fish just to spend any time with him.”

OO!” Caroline gasped. A mesmerized Jim had innocently rubbed her surface.

Did I hurt you?” he asked, not appearing very worried at the prospect.

No, quite the contrary. More! Please!”

As a smirking Jim gave her another, more vigorous rub, Gena, frowning, snatched her friend from her husband's hands. “Caroline, can you turn back, please, so we don't have to converse with inanimate objects?”

It's fun to converse with inanimate objects!” But grudgingly, the invitation ballooned out into an odd torso-shaped blob. Limbs and head sprouted in the appropriate places, and soon Caroline rose from the floor, stretching out her re-formed body. “Aw, it's so much fun going through the mail. I think I'm going to do the same and be Lexi's invitation as well.”

Jim's mouth fell open. “You went through the mail?”

Gena chuckled. “More than once! There was this time she needed to go to a conference, and she couldn't get plane tickets, so we mailed her.”

And I loved it. First of all, being flat is fun. I'm lying in a mailbox, enjoying my form, then I'm tossed into a box with a bunch of letters. I get to go through all the post office machinery- it's kind of like a roller coaster at times- then I get postmarked. That feels good. Then it's off on another adventure until I finally get tossed into a mailbox. Your mailman is awesome, by the way. He's got some nice fingers there.”

Gena found herself getting more and more annoyed with Caroline. “Does he normally give all his letters a good rub-down?”

Caroline snorted. “You know pretty well that the smallest touch feels awesome when you're inanimate, Gena.”

Jim looked at his wife and smiled. “Quite right.”

So you two will be coming to the party?”

We wouldn't miss it for the world!” Jim cried. Gena nodded, a bit less enthused than her husband.

Just remember. You have to come in goo-form and stay that way the whole night. If you revert to your human form, then you lose the game, and I, being the birthday girl, get to pick what you have to turn into.” A nasty look came over her face, and Gena made a choking sound.

I can only imagine what you'd choose for us to be, Miss Space Heater,” jeered Gena.

I think that's awesome,” uttered Jim. “I can't wait.”

Caroline turned back into an invitation complete with Lexi's address. “Can you guys put a stamp on me?” she requested. Gena went to locate one while Jim remained with his eyes glued on the new stationery.

Damn, I have to take some potion. That looks so comfortable.”

The invitation giggled, making it topple from the kitchen table to the floor. Jim scooped it up, apologizing profusely. When Gena returned, she was in time to see him placing it back on the table a bit too lovingly. She remained silent, but when she placed the stamp on Caroline's corner, it made the envelope gasp at the unnecessary pressure involved.

Can you mail me?” Caroline asked.

I'll do it. I have to go get milk,” Jim volunteered.

Gena scrutinized her husband. She liked to think he was simply fascinated with both Caroline's choice of form and her adventurousness when it came to transforming, but perhaps there was more to it than that?

But Caroline was not his type, as Jim himself had pointed out. He always thought of Caroline as flighty and not as intelligent as Gena...

Gena grabbed the envelope from the table angrily. “I'll mail you, Caroline,” she said, and strode out the front door.

Are you mad at me, Gena?” asked the invitation.

No.”

You seem like it.”

Really Caroline had done nothing wrong, and Gena softened. After all, she had had so much fun transforming with her and Lexi in the past. She couldn't let Jim's idiocy get to her – she had to assume it was just his scientist's mind at work.

I'm not mad. Listen, here's a mailbox, but it's about two hours until you'll be picked up.”

That's okay. I love just...being...” Caroline's words trailed off in a happy sigh.

Gena smiled. She understood Caroline's feelings very well. As boring as being an envelope and lying in a mailbox sounded, when one was in a different form, it just felt...delightful, and even as the pleasure dwindled, it was still restful not having to move or breathe. And whatever you were, you felt good because you would be serving a purpose. When one was a toothbrush, one was grateful to be used.

So sitting in a mailbox, Caroline would do her best to be a good piece of mail.

Wanna join me in there?”

I don't have any Ultimate Potion in me right now. I can't change,” Gena replied. The relief in her voice was a bit too obvious.

But Caroline was not to be dissuaded. “Get some.”

I don't want to be mail today, Caroline!”

So be a bug. Or a pebble. Or...I don't know, something small.”

Sorry, I have to pack. Have fun.” She opened the slot and dropped her friend inside.

Weeee!” Caroline giggled. “Ah, nice and comfy in here!”

Safe journey,” Gena tossed off, turning on her heel and walking off.

Thanks!” the small voice called behind her.

Caroline began to shudder as she sat ensconced in Lexi's mailbox. The potion was wearing off, and she worried that she'd revert right there, which would explode open the metal structure and send her to the ground.

But right then she let out a pleasured moan as hands grasped her, carting her inside Lexi's house and tossing her onto the kitchen counter with the rest of her envelope friends. Mumbling angrily about her job, Lexi then walked off.

Damn!” Caroline growled, as her form threatened to balloon out. She sucked her midsection in and yelled, “Lexi, read me!”

Lexi came pounding back into the kitchen. “Who the hell is here?”

Read me, please,” Caroline begged.

Caroline, is that you?”

Here, on the counter. I'm pink.”

Lexi picked up the envelope, her face breaking out into a grin. “You turned yourself into an envelope?”

Caroline shuddered again. “Quick, open me before I turn back!”

She yelped as Lexi ripped her open. “'Come as goo are?' What does that mean?”

OO!” Caroline's form made a crackling sound as she began to expand. “Put me on the floor, Lexi,” she pleaded as her body began to re-form. “I feel like an inflating balloon,” she giggled.

Lexi watched her friend, marveling at the girl's lunacy. “You went through the mail again, huh?”

Yup. Oh, here comes my head...ooh, two arms, two legs...”

You have nothing better to do than to enjoy the US Postal Service intimately?”

I have tons of vacation time at my job, and now I can work at home, so...ah, it feels good to stretch after being flat.”

When Caroline was completely whole, she began to explain about her 'goo party'. “You're insane, Caroline,” was Lexi's response.

It'll be fun.”

I bet,” Lexi opened the refrigerator and pulled out a soda. “Drink?”

Caroline declined, continuing, “I want to have the best, wackiest night ever. It's also going to be kind of a going-away party for Gena and Jim, but I didn't tell them that. So drink lots of potion. I'm going to be lots of crazy things, and you should too.”

Hmm,” Lexi was the more cautious one, and she worried what Caroline might have in mind. “like what?”

I don't know... turn yourself into a water bed and lock them in a room with you?” Caroline raised an eyebrow mischievously.

No way, Caroline! Ew!”

You did the 'Cottage and All Its Contents' potion with me for their honeymoon. You were the very bed that they used all night. What's the problem now?”

Lexi thought back to that amazing experience. She had loved it, but afterwards she felt somewhat shamed that she and Caroline had been present in such private moments.

Gena and Jim knew we were the bed and the cottage and everything else. And they enjoyed it. Jim was particularly turned on by it, I understand.” Caroline winked.

I know, but we shouldn't have...”

Caroline shook her head. “Can I borrow some potion? I want to turn into a dragonfly to get home. I love them.”

Lexi fetched her some from her own dwindling supply, and Caroline downed it in one gulp. She crouched on the floor, shrinking and cackling as clear wings popped from her back. Pumping them vigorously, her shrinking body gained a set of legs while her arms and legs thinned to match the new set. Her eyes bulged into insect eyes, and soon she rose into the air, fully transformed. “See ya at my party!” she cried in a tiny voice. Lexi opened the window, and her friend sailed off. “Don't be late!”

The doorbell rang, and a gooey Caroline ran to answer it. It was always tough to maneuver this way, and now, being fully clothed and wearing heels, it was even harder.

Lexi, a solid wall of ooze with a face, was looking behind her, trying to hide behind a bush lest anyone see the living tower of goo.

Lexi! You look great! Come in!” Caroline cried, ushering her inside.

Lexi wobbled in, and the door shut behind her.

Like my dress?” Caroline spun around awkwardly to show it off.

What, did you change, then put it on?”

Yeah, it was tough, putting on a dress with arms that wobble around.”

Lexi, remaining as ooze, shaped herself into a human form. “I wasn't sure if we could be human-shaped, but honestly, I like having a shape when I'm ooze. It's easier to move around and do stuff. Should I wear clothes too?”

If you want. We'll be changing so much, it doesn't matter. In fact, wanna be a dress for me? There was one in this magazine,” she held up a picture, some goo staining the paper, “but it's Versace or something that I could never afford. But if you'll be it for me as a birthday present, I'd love to clothe myself in you.”

Fine,” Lexi said. She studied the picture for a moment, then simply crinkled to the ground as a mass of fabric.

Nice,” smiled Caroline. “You came out perfect. Enjoying it?”

Put me on, please,” uttered the fabric.

How about I play around with you first?” Caroline picked Lexi up, holding her over her leg and stroking her. The fabric visibly shifted with each touch. “Good?”

Lexi moaned. “It sends tingles through every one of my folds. Like all over me.”

Then you get some more. Compliments of the birthday girl.”

This went on for a few more minutes until Lexi could not bare not to be worn anymore. When her friend defrocked and immediately donned her, her folds falling down over Caroline's body generated an unimaginable sensation of freedom. She moaned and wriggled as her form fit and caressed Caroline's womanly figure.

Caroline smoothed her down, eliciting more purring. “Good dress. Nice dress,” she said proudly, and then the doorbell rang. “Coming!” Lexi swished happily against her friend's gooey legs as Caroline ran across the room to answer the door.

An ooze-like Gena entered. “Caroline, that's a beautiful dress.”

Thanks, I'm very expensive,” said Lexi.

Gena chuckled, which made ripples run through her form. She bent down and ran her hand over the skirt. “Oh, Lexi, you're soft and satiny. You're going to be a dress all night?”

Not at all,” answered Caroline, bringing Gena into the kitchen. “She's going to be things we never even thought of. We all will. Now where's Jim?”

He's finishing up at work. He'll be a bit late. He says to start without him.”

Well, there are some things we can do that we might be better off without a man around with...”

Without warning, Caroline melted into a puddle on the floor. For a moment, dress-Lexi bobbed confusedly on Caroline's surface, then drew herself up into human form. “Make sure you're still goo!” Gena chuckled before Lexi could become flesh and blood.

As Lexi goo-ified, she let out a relieved breath. “Thanks, Gena. I can't imagine what Caroline would have made me turn into if I went all human on her.” She was standing in the middle of the very happy Caroline-puddle, and she stomped in it a few times for effect.

Thanks, I needed that,” it said in response.

Shaking the bits of Caroline off her feet, Lexi stepped onto dry floor. “What's next, birthday girl?”

Caroline rippled. “Okay, we always like the puddle thing. So I saw that kid's slip-and-slide water thing... Can you guys kind of skid through me...like slide around in me...?”

Gena pondered this. “That could be fun. You think you're slippery enough?” Gena stepped into the puddle, testing it against the tile.

I think so...oh, it feels nice when you rub me on the tile.”

Okay. Brace yourself, puddle-girl.” Gena stepped back, then took a running jump into Caroline. She skidded all the way through the puddle, sending both Caroline and herself into gleeful shrieks. She then collided with the wall on the other side of the room. “Wow, if I wasn't goo right now, that would have left a bruise.”

My turn!” cried Lexi, and she dove headfirst into the puddle, sliding across the floor on her belly and coming to rest beside Gena. “Yup, it's good I'm ooze or that would not have been half as fun!”

Join me!” yelled the puddle, grabbing Lexi's leg and sucking her in. Lexi's head pushed out of the puddle, shouting, “Help me! I'm drowning!” in mock fear.

The puddle quickly re-engulfed her, scolding her. Each stern word came out followed by bubbles. “Now, cutie, you can't escape my wrath!”

The puddle began to boil ferociously until Lexi's worried voice erupted from it. “Caroline, I don't think we should boil on the tiles.”

Yeah, they might get scalded,” Gena said, watching the puddle longingly. The Ultimate Potion had the effect of sending the body into a quest to be changed, and her body was rippling almost uncontrollably, trying to become something other than the gooey form she possessed at the moment. “Oh, God, I need to be something else,” she murmured, looking around.

Merge with us, Gena. This is my next...thing...I want to do.”

Caroline did not have to ask twice. Gena dove into the puddle, merging with it on impact.

Hi Gena,” Lexi giggled.

Hi guys.”

The puddle rippled and moaned a bit as the girls adjusted to their merged, amorphous form. Then Gena prompted Caroline to share with them what was next.

Okay, first let me be in charge of our form.” The other girls allowed Caroline to take the reins, Gena with curiosity, and Lexi with some anxiety. But both quickly realized there was nothing to be concerned about. The way their body was expanding into an enormous bubble was flooding their minds with immense pleasure.

Okay, now hold on everybody...here we go...We're a huge bubble, we're getting bigger, and bigger – oh, God it tickles – we're going to pop...we're going to pop...!”

The explosion was so immense, each girl could not liken it to anything. They exploded across the room with such force that they were splattered across most of the walls.

So many pieces of me!” Lexi exclaimed.

We're everywhere!” gasped Gena, as a larger piece of them fell to the floor with a splat.

Happy Birthday to me!” Caroline yelled triumphantly.

The pieces of bubble had allowed themselves to absorb into the walls at Caroline's request. They chatted for a while this way, and then Gena and Lexi burst forth.

Good, you're both goo,” the wall said with Caroline's voice.

Stay as the wall until we call you, Caroline. We have a surprise change for you now.”

Laughing and whispering secretively to themselves, the two went off to the bathroom.

The wall gave a squeal of excitement.

Okay! Come on in!”

Emerging from the wall, a curious Caroline walked into the bathroom to find her Jacuzzi full and steaming.

For your birthday, you deserve to relax in a goo-bath,” Lexi's voice emanated forth.

Oh, guys, that's so sweet. You don't have the Jacuzzi on, though. You know you love when you get all the bubbles through you, and you travel through the jets...”

It's not for us. It's for you. First just enjoy relaxing in us. Then if you want jets and bubbles, it's up to you.”

Caroline poked her feet into the tub, and the 'water' gave way. Lexi and Gena had become a very thin ooze, only slightly more viscous than water. As Caroline settled down into the tub, they swished around her body, rubbing her tired legs and massaging her neck. She groaned blissfully. “This is better than any massage I've ever had,” she purred, swishing her hand around in her friends so they would get their own enjoyment.

Thanks, Caroline, that feels great, but let us pamper you some more,” said the water with Lexi's voice. “Don't worry about us.”

I'm good with that. Pamper on.”

Doorbell!” yelled the bathwater.

Caroline rose, her gooey friends sliding down her bare skin. “That must be Jim...” She didn't bother to towel off as her friends had left her dry...except for a spot in her hair...

Oh, there's a part of me still in your hair,” Gena said from the bath. “Sorry.” The wet spot migrated through the air and merged with the rest of the bathwater. As Caroline tossed her original dress over her head, two transparent figures arose from the bathtub and stepped out.

I hope Jim remembered to be goo,” Lexi said darkly as they followed Caroline to the front door. When they opened it up, gooey Caroline gave a yelp and stepped back. A red-headed boy stood on the step, holding a large box out to her.

Completely at a loss of how to handle the boy, Caroline looked back at her friends, but the boy merely laughed. “Mr. Wintergreen is so awesome, isn't he?”

Caroline snapped her head back towards him, letting out a very relieved breath. “Oh...you know...you...oh, thank you...” She took the box from him gratefully. “I didn't mean to scare you being all...like this, but I thought you were Jim...”

The boy chuckled. “You girls and your potions,” he turned and walked off, and Caroline watched him swagger away, seeming way too confident for the pimply-faced boy he appeared to be. Maybe he had used a potion to look that way? Whatever...

She shut the door and held out the box. “Did you guys order this?”

Lexi studied the box. The white and red tie around it suggested that it was a bakery box. “I didn't order anything. What is it? It doesn't have any writing on it.”

They placed the box down on the kitchen table and Caroline opened it.

She squealed in delight at the beautifully ornate cake before them. “Happy Birthday Caroline!!!!!” it read, the punctuation taking up the right half of the cake.

Too many exclamation points,” Gena mumbled.

Ignoring this, Caroline pulled the cake from the box. “I gotta get a picture of this!” She ran and grabbed her camera, returning just in time to catch Gena poking her finger into the middle of the cake.

Hey!” she cried angrily, racing in. “You destroyed it! I thought we'd wait for Jim!”

Jim's here,” said Gena sweetly.

Both Lexi and Caroline looked confusedly around. “Where?”

Hi guys!”

The cake now had a face.

Oh, God, Jim! You're a cake?” gasped Lexi.

Caroline smiled. Somehow the idea of a man being reduced to a birthday cake was especially titillating to her. “I think we should put you on Pinterest, Jim,” she commented, snapping a picture.

Poke me again, Gena,” said the dessert, and his wife jammed her finger into his middle, swishing it around and making the cake quake and moan. “You know what a cake likes, Gena,” it uttered.

Then Gena licked her finger.

Lexi threw herself at her friend, grabbing her finger. “No, Gena! You can't eat him! You'll kill him, you'll–”

How does he taste?” Caroline asked calmly.

His frosting is amazing!” Gena gushed. “I need to eat a slice of you now, Jim! Where are the candles?”

Giggling, Caroline ran to fetch them, and Lexi merely stared in horrified shock. “You...you can eat him? Won't that...like...kill him when he gets...digested...?”

Gena picked up a spoon and scooped up some of her husband's frosting. She sat down and began to lick at it. The cake moaned again. “Jim, I love you like this.”

Enjoy me,” answered the cake.

Lexi's mouth fell open. “Does it hurt, Jim?”

The cake laughed. “Lexi, have you ever been food?”

Yes.”

Then you know the feeling that you want to be eaten, because it's what food is for.”

Well, yeah, but...well, I didn't want to do it...even though the food part of me did...”

Why?”

Gena chuckled. “Perhaps the fear of death?”

Lexi nodded. “Yup.”

Jim continued. “I'm not dying. Quite the contrary. I'm in heaven. Well, okay, wrong wording there, but...”

Why aren't you dying?”

Mr. Wintergreen's potions are magic, Lexi. Gena's science plus Mr. Wintergreen's magic equals...everything is possible.”

Gena took a breath. “Jim asked Mr. Wintergreen a while back what would happen if we were food and then eaten. With the Ultimate Potion, anything's possible. Whenever you want to change back, you do. I was a raspberry truffle the other day. Jim popped me in his mouth, chewed me up, swallowed me, and when I started feeling the digesting going on, I simply re-appeared as myself outside of Jim. No harm, no foul.”

Lexi gulped. “Ugh. That's gross.”

Not at all,” said the cake. “It's great. Being chewed is like...damn, it's like erotic, honestly.”

Jim turns into this amazing chocolate lava cake...I can't have enough of him like that...”

Lava cake? I love that stuff!” cried Caroline, coming in with matches, a cake cutter, and a box of candles. She began to poke them into Jim wherever she could, laughing at his reaction. “So we can eat you, huh, Jim? Mr. Wintergreen said it's fine?”

It's fine. You go as far as you want, and then just turn back into yourself,” replied Gena. “And Jim's delicious, by the way.”

Thanks,” said the cake. “Now blow out my candles before you get wax on me, Caroline.”

For a moment, Caroline did not respond. A whole new world of transformational possibilities had opened for her. She could turn into all kinds of foods, and she could only imagine how good it would feel to be chewed...and what was it like to be swallowed...And, for that matter, how far could she stand it before she would have to escape and change back?

Caroline!”

Sorry!” she blew out every candle, and the cake made a silly giggle.

Jim?” asked Gena.

The air...it tickles against my frosting. Guys, please, get eating. I'll go stale if you don't!”

Caroline cut into Jim with relish, making Lexi cringe. She took the first piece for herself, then she handed one to Gena. As she reached over to cut Lexi's, Lexi took the cutter from her. “I'll...do it..” she stuttered.

Up to you. Doesn't hurt him, you know.”

It feels good, honestly, Lexi. And you're sectioning me into all these pieces so I have all these points of view...”

I know. I did the 'Cottage and All Its Contents' potion with Caroline, remember? That was the ultimate 'many points of view' experience.”

That was so cool that cottage and everything in it was all you two,” smiled Jim. “Now please, indulge in me. I'm begging you to. I want to be eaten all up.”

The first part of Jim's response was somewhat reassuring to Lexi, however the second part rattled her. The whole idea of eating someone, however much he wanted it, was very disagreeable to her. She held the cake cutter above the waiting dessert, and her arm shook.

Come on, Lexi!”

Cut him good!” cried Caroline, shoveling a huge piece of Jim into her mouth. “Oh, God, he's the best treat I've ever had!”

Lexi faltered. “Jim, I'd feel better if you made your face go away. Don't talk anymore. Just be a cake.”

Done.”

The face was gone, and only a motionless cake remained. When Lexi cut her piece, it didn't respond.

The three girls sat around the table. “I feel bad Jim can't be eating with us,” said Caroline, scraping Jim's frosting from her plate.

Oh, when we finish him, and he's good and ready, he'll join us in other 'activities',” she bent down, directing her words at her cake, “in goo form, of course.”

Meanwhile, Lexi sat, cake plate in hand, fork poised over the piece. She could not do this. She could not eat her friend's husband. Resolutely, she set the plate down. “I can't.”

Oh, come on, Lexi, at least try him. He'll be really insulted if you don't. He made sure he turned into the best, tastiest cake he could so we could all indulge,” said Gena.

Caroline added, “Look at it this way, he's calorie-free.”

Gingerly, Lexi poked her fork into the icing. She knew Jim was enjoying this, but she was thankful he was keeping his word and not talking to her from where he sat on her plate. And just to make him happy, she drew a bit of him against her lips.

His sweetness surprised her. It was the perfect combination of sugar, butter, and vanilla. He was exquisite. “Mmm, Jim. You are good,” she murmured under her breath. Then she put the plate down on the table. “But that's as far as I'll go with you. I can't...let you go into my stomach.”

A bit of him will.”

A microscopic bit.”

There's a bit of Jim in all of us,” giggled Caroline.

Finish me!” demanded the cake.

And Caroline and Gena did.
