A TransFun story by grapehyacinth
Rhonda was growing frustrated with her boyfriend Dylan. The guy simply thrived on danger – he loved skydiving, parachuting, mountain climbing – whatever was out there, he partook in it. Except for one glaring annoyance – he would not touch a bottle of TransFun Serum.
The idea of ingesting a solution that would transform his whole body obviously terrified him, which irked Rhonda to no end. She had changed into so many things with her friends that being human now seemed boring in comparison. She longed to transform with Dylan, but he would not have it.
It was time to resort to desperate measures.
Dylan was also normally quite the prankster, and he had played his fair share of tricks on her. It was all out of love, and she did enjoy them (usually). But it was time to get him back, and to get what she wanted in the process.
On a hot, late summer's day, they met up at the aquarium and ambled through the exhibits. Rhonda carried two water bottles in her hand, and Dylan eyed them longingly. “Can I have a drink?” He grabbed at them.
“No!” she stuttered, pulling them from his grip. “I'm...saving them...for later.”
“Oh, just a sip.”
“No, no. I'm not stopping now.” She glanced at her watch. “It's almost two o'clock anyway – the animal show is going to start. You'll totally love it.”
Dylan swept a hand through his brown curls, studying her a minute. “Fine. Then I get my drink.”
Rhonda made a dark smile. “Agreed.”
“Step right this way, everyone. Please go to the very end of the row,” directed a red-headed usher as they handed her their tickets. “You all set?” she whispered into Rhonda's ear as Dylan walked past.
Rhonda shook one of the water bottles marked with a very small 'D'. “Sure am.” She winked knowingly at the usher and followed her boyfriend into the bleachers which surrounded the stage. As they settled in, she snuck another peek at her watch. It was the stroke of two – time for Dylan to imbibe.
“Show's starting,” Dylan pointed out. “Can I drink yet?”
Boy, he was making this too easy! She gave him a small peck on the cheek and pushed the water bottle at him. “All yours,” she said, avoiding his eyes completely. She tried not to seem too interested as he guzzled down the whole bottle, but with each swallow, her inner excitement mounted.
“Ah! I was thirsty!” Dylan plunked the bottle down beside him on the bench and wiped his lips.
“Yup. It's a hot one today. I almost wish I could go jump in that pool in the front. Oh, look how cute the walrus is!” She pointed to a fat walrus as it jumped onto the stage from the water that ran around its edge.
“Oo...” Dylan grasped at his stomach.
“What's wrong?”
“I feel...weird.”
“You must have drunk the water too fast,” Rhonda covered her mouth to keep him from seeing the broad grin fanning out across her lips.
“Guess so.” Dylan grew quiet but did not remove his hand from his stomach. And Rhonda could almost swear he was looking more bloated.
“So what's the main attraction here? Shamu?” Dylan asked, scratching behind his ear, then down his leg, then in back of his neck. With each movement, he seemed increasingly anxious. And his skin was definitely taking on a strange sheen.
Rhonda smiled, shaking the water bottle. There was no turning back now. “You are!”
He smirked, not understanding in the least. “What's that supposed to mean?” He attempted to put his arm around her, but strangely, it didn't seem as long as he was used to it being. Puzzled, he leaned over to her further, but his legs were no longer touching the floor, and it seemed like his pants had shifted lower on his waist. “What the hell?” he murmured, scratching at his head. Was it possible that he was losing his hair? He was not used to feeling so much of his scalp. Was he getting bald overnight?
Panicking, he ran his hand down his face. There were bumps on his cheeks. “Rhonda, what are these? Pimples?”
Rhonda turned from viewing the dolphin act that had come on after the walrus. “Bumps?” She examined the area he indicated, and began to laugh as she saw whiskers bursting forth. “Oh, don't you feel that, Dylan? Those are your whiskers!”
Suddenly everything fell into place. “Whiskers?!” Dylan screeched, trying to stand up. The nearby spectators shushed him, chuckling as his pants fell to the ground. He fumbled to pick them up with fingers that were merging into flippers. “Oh, God, Rhonda! How could you? You TransFunned me! You...you bitch!”
“Got ya back for all the jokes you've played on me!” she giggled, pulling his shirt off. He was unable to stop her.
His underwear fell off next, and he looked down in fright to see that his legs were joining together, and anything that had been remotely male was between them was now nearly gone. Nonetheless he covered the area with his flippers as he fought tears of horror.
“Oh, be careful!” She grabbed at him as he swayed and toppled to the ground, now incapable of standing on his two merged legs. He moaned in dismay as his feet swiftly became a tail fin.
“Oh, God, I never wanted this...” his words fell off as he could see his skin grow smoother and darker. And although he had begun to shrink lengthwise, he could feel his girth increasing.
“See? Transforming's not so bad, is it?” Rhonda asked, swatting at his flipper. “You're going to be such a cutie, Dylan!” She tapped him on the head, which was now hairless. His face was expanding into a truncated snout, and a small angry chatter from his increasingly seal-like mouth proved that all hope of human speech was now lost. His nose widened into a black button, and his eyes grew dark and round, all the while furiously fixed on hers.
“Oh!” Rhonda cried adoringly. “Dylan! You are so cute! I knew you'd be an awesome seal! I want to hug that blubbery body of yours!”
She tried to, but Dylan clumsily slapped her away with his flipper.
“Now, Dylan, give it a chance. You'll get used to it.”
The people around her were chuckling and pointing at Dylan's new form.
“He came out real nice,” the lady nearest her commented. “How long is that serum for?”
“It's just a twelve-hour one. He'll do today's shows and I'll come get him tonight.”
“Still as a seal?”
“Yup! He'll change back in the middle of the night. ”
The red-headed usher pushed through the audience to join them. “Oh, look at him! He turned into a fat one! All set, Rhonda?”
“Yup! Transformation complete!”
“I'll tell them!”
“Hey, what's this seal doing in our audience?” the announcer called from the stage in a silly voice, as if the seal had been placed there intentionally. “Would you like to join our show, boy?”
Dylan, whose large eyes were still searing angrily into his girlfriend's, did not even hear the announcer beckoning to him until Rhonda poked at his blubbery stomach. He growled. She giggled.
“You're jiggling, Dylan,” she commented in a singsong voice.
“Come on up, boy! Let's see what you can do!”
The seal now stared at the announcer in anger, shaking his head 'no' furiously.
Rhonda stood up as two handlers came to help the new animal. “Go ahead, Dylan! Make me proud!”
Dylan struggled as the two strong men grabbed hold of his flippers and practically dragged him down the stairs of the bleachers. “Stop fighting us, dude! You'll be fine!” one scolded him.
Dylan stuck out his tongue at them.
They released him at the edge of the pool, only feet away from the trainers that were working with the animals. One of them, wearing a tag that said “Samantha”, approached him and scratched under his chin. It felt surprisingly good. And Samantha wasn't so bad-looking in that skimpy outfit, either, he thought to himself.
“Hey, guy! I hear you're pretty smart! Let's see what you can do!” she winked at him mischievously.
Incensed, Dylan shook his head 'no' back and forth. There was no way in hell he would do tricks for these idiots. He was a computer programmer, not a trained animal. Well, right now he wasn't going to be writing much of anything with these damned flippers...
Wait, what the hell was that tantalizing smell?
“Dylan, you get a prize if you do some tricks for us!” Samantha dangled a large flounder in front of him, and it smelled...absolutely heavenly. His stomach growled, and he desperately tried to fight the urge to chomp down the fish...
“Balance the ball on your nose. Just kind of stand up as best as you can...yes, it's tough to do when you don't have legs...”
I'll be damned if I do tricks in front of a crowd...Oh, God! I need to eat that fish...
He pointed his black nose up in the air and managed to keep the ball there for a few seconds.
“Yay!” screamed the crowd.
“Nice job, Dylan! You're a natural!” She tossed the fish to the floor and he gobbled it up, not caring who was watching. He didn't even mind that he was eating off the ground.
I need more...
“A chunky boy like you needs more nourishment... How about you do a handstand for us? Stand on those front flippers, tail in the air...”
What the hell? He couldn't even do that as a human! He'd failed the gymnastics part of his junior high fitness test...
“Come on, Dylan! Two tasty fish for that one! Just try it!”
Damn you, Rhonda, I'm so going to get you back for this...
Still unsure of his new very plump figure, he leaned down on his front flippers, trying to push the rest of his body up in the air.
“Too tough for a big guy like you?”
He glanced at his enormous round midsection. He wasn't big. He was just well-blubbered.
“Roxie, help him out!”
A female seal came over and nosed Dylan's back section up in the air. He remained that way for only seconds before flipping over and skidding halfway across the slippery stage. The crowd roared, and Dylan remained where he was, greatly embarrassed.
“Oh, there's a first time for all of us, Dylan. Here's three fish for that display. Good boy!”
Need...fish...
“How about you roll on your back and show us your fat tummy, Dylan?”
You damn bitch... Dylan rolled over, and another fish found its way into his mouth. Samantha stroked his sensitive ventral area, a cheeky look on her face. Oh, that's good... Dylan felt she must have been a seal before. She was rubbing just the right amount in just the right spot...
He closed his eyes and barked, and the crowd loved it.
“Clap for us, Dylan!”
He did.
“Wave bye to the crowd!”
Dylan acquiesced, and he received a standing ovation. As the crowd thinned, Samantha walked over and set a bucket of fish in front of him. “You like the salmon, the carp, or the flounder best?”
And how am I supposed to answer that, you stupid bitch?
“Flounder?”
He shook his head vigorously and began to eat. Hell, they were all delicious. And he hated fish as a human. Well here was a chance to get his omega 3's...
“Now, listen, Dylan. Are you completely comfortable with your body yet? I could go lighter on you if you want. Was it okay?”
He wanted to yell at her, but he managed a weak nod before returning to the food.
“Dylan?”
He looked back up.
“You have a fish fin caught between your teeth.”
So get me a toothpick, damn it! Half-heartedly, he swiped at it with his flipper.
The same handlers that had pulled Dylan to the stage now loaded him into Rhonda's car. The day had been long and full of shows, and he was a very tired seal. He would not make eye contact with his girlfriend and was silent the whole ride despite her attempts at conversation. Painstakingly he lumbered into her house, only stopping to drink water from the cat's bowl.
“Dylan!” Rhonda cried in shock. “That's disgusting! I could have given you fresh water! Why didn't you ask?”
Right. How the hell am I supposed to ask that?
Thirst sated, he waddled into the bedroom, just wanting to go to sleep.
“Want to sleep in my bathtub?” she offered.
He shook his head angrily and indicated the bed.
She looked dubious, but she placed a stepstool at the foot and helped him haul his huge mass onto the sheets. The springs groaned as he shifted around and tried to cover himself with the blanket.
“You want to sleep like a person, huh?” she tittered, adjusting the blanket over him. “That's so cute.”
As she climbed in beside him and shut the light, she patted his head again. “Good job today, Dylan. You made me proud.”
He turned away. Just hope I don't roll over onto you in my sleep, he thought nastily, and immediately fell into the restful slumber of the transformed.
“I have never been so humiliated!” Dylan snapped. It was the next morning, and he stood beside the bed, very naked and very human. “Five God-damned shows I did! Rolling balls on my nose, clapping, and showing everyone my 'cute fat tummy'!”
Rhonda threw the sheet at him so he could cover up. “Oh, come on, Dylan. It was a joke! Look how many jokes you've played on me!”
He tossed the sheet to the floor. “I never turned you into a circus act!”
“Oh, come on. Don't tell me you didn't have any fun!”
“Well,” he thought back to his experience. If he hadn't been so insulted in general, things might have been different. It had been rather cool to be something other than human., but he couldn't admit that to her. Not yet.
“No. I didn't have a damned bit of fun. I was a laughing stock!”
“You were not. The audience knew you were really a person. Cut it out.”
“That was a nasty thing to do!”
“Listen, you made me laugh, okay? You made me have a good time. I've wanted to change with you for so long. Maybe you'll consider it now in the future?”
He regarded her with calmer eyes. No, he couldn't let her get her way this easily. “No. Never. I only do one form. Human.”
“You suck,” she murmured, and walked into the bathroom to take her shower.
Dylan swept his hand over Rhonda's bare back and handed her a drink as they settled into a bath together. It was weeks later, and they had patched things up between them fairly quickly. He admitted that it was about time that she had gotten him back for all the stupid pranks he'd pulled over the months. And she finally had opened his mind to using TransFun again. In fact, he had enticed her into the tub on the pretext that they would discuss what to become if he were indeed to try TransFun with her.
“Dylan, this is so romantic,” Rhonda smiled, sipping at her wine. It was a delightfully sweet one. “I really shouldn't accept drinks from you...What kind is this?”
“A Reisling. One-of-a-kind.”
“You know I love sweet wines...oh, it's good!”
Suddenly she felt as if the ground had been pulled out from under her. For some reason, she was looking up at Dylan, and he seemed to be growing larger...
“Did you...” She looked at the cup and smashed it down. “What's happening?”
“You're turning into my pet goldfish!”
And indeed, her skin was growing iridescent orange scales...“No! You can't do that to me! I have work tomorrow! I have a deadline that–”
“Your boss is fine with it. He says I can bring you in in a fish bowl if you don't want to take a sick day.”
“Dylan! No! Not now!”
Rhonda tried to get out of the bathtub, but she was too small, and she didn't have legs anymore. Nonetheless, she made a gallant effort, but a laughing Dylan pushed her back into what now seemed like a deep pond to her. “Hey, at least I'm letting you transform in the water. It could have been pretty traumatic if I did it in a fancy restaurant or something.” He lifted up what once was her arm. “See, it's becoming so fin-like! I can't wait to see you, all flat and tiny...”
“Dylan! How dare you bbbbbbbb...”
Rhonda stared out of her fishbowl at Dylan while he ate breakfast. He completely ignored her, reading a magazine as he dined. When he finished, he put his dish in the sink and walked out of the room. Rhonda watched him forlornly. It wasn't that being a fish was so bad, but it was the absolute worst time for it, and she longed for company...
Dylan returned, coat on and ready for work. “Have a fun day, Rhonda,” he said, tossing a pinch of fish food into her bowl. Embarrassed, she nonetheless went after the food with vigor, gulping up every bit she could find. “Tasty meal, huh? Don't eat too much or you'll explode, you know?”
Bubbles of anger issued from her mouth as the door shut behind him.
Well, she still hadn't used the bottle of turkey TransFun serum she had purchased at the same time as the seal one. With Thanksgiving around the corner, Dylan could be in for a whole new TransFun experience...
She swam in circles around her bowl, plotting her next move quite carefully.
