“Wake up, Corrie! It's time for school!”
Roman's words jolted me from a deep slumber. For a moment, I had to think about what he was saying...Yes, today was my first day of college. No, I wasn't too thrilled about it. Now that I was finally at this point, I wished I could just stay home with my husband so he could change us into things all day.
“Come on! I have an enormous breakfast all set for you! Many pieces of fuzz and dust became delicacies all for you!” He swept me from my bed.
“Let me get a bathrobe. I'm cold,” I murmured in annoyance. I was not a morning person. Ever.
But Roman coiled himself around me, swiftly changing himself into a soft blue terrycloth bathrobe. “I'll keep you warm,” he said. And I had to smile. He was just so...cuddly like this. I hugged him around me, tying his tie so tightly that both of us let out a gasp.
“Roman, nice as you are like this–”
“Don't forget comfy,” added the robe as it snuggled closer to my body.
“Yes. But you can't eat food if you're clothing.” I took my own bathrobe from the hook on the closet door and tossed it over my arm.
“Oh, let me spend five minutes on you. Please? Just go into the kitchen.”
I pulled on my slippers and shuffled in. What met my eyes was one of Roman's excessive banquets that we could never hope to finish. Most of these exotic foods simply ended up back in their original forms – rocks, leaves, whatever Roman happened to get his hands on to transform.
“Here's everything you like! A bagel breakfast complete with spreads, donuts, pastries, your choice of cereals, hot fresh bread...”
“Oh, Roman. We can't eat even half of this!” I sat down, and he gave a contented “oof” sound.
I picked up a bagel and bit into it, wondering what it had originally been. But it did not matter in the least. It was so delicious, I ate it plain. It didn't even need any of the six spreads that sat before me.
“That smells too good to resist. Sorry.”
I was suddenly down one bathrobe, but up one husband, who spilled into his chair as a blue blur and became himself. I quickly tugged my own robe back on while watching Roman devour some food.
“All those changes made me damned hungry,” he managed to mention between bites.
Juggling another bagel in my hand, I said, “Why all of this, Roman? It's just school!”
He swallowed. “I'm just so proud of you. I'm glad you're doing this, despite how much you'd rather spend your life as an inanimate object.”
“I'm doing it because you asked me to,” I muttered unconvincingly.
“Oh, Corrie. I know you're doing it for more than that. You're doing it for you. You're doing it for all of us. Had you not met me, you were going to follow your dreams.”
“My dreams are here.” I swirled the bagel around on my finger.
“And they'll always be here. When you're not working or studying, I'll turn you into whatever you want. You have all the time in the world for that. But right now is the chance to make something of yourself. Achieve. Make us all proud of you. Make Robert proud of you.”
And, as he said my deceased father's name, he became him.
I jumped up off the chair, and it fell over. “Roman! Don't!” I cried, tears flowing down my face. My father was before me. My dead beloved father, who I could never see again... Dark hair, soulful eyes... “Dad...Dad...Dad...” I crumpled down beside the felled chair.
Immediately Roman became himself, though visibly confused. “I thought you'd like to see him after all these years.”
I looked up, wiping at my face. “But it's not him! It's you...with his face!”
“But...”
“No...no...Don't, Roman.”
Righting the chair, he came up behind me and brought me back to my feet. “Sorry. I didn't mean it to hurt you. I miss him too. He was a great friend.”
I was still sobbing softly. I thought the pain of my father's loss was gone, but I was obviously wrong. It might have dulled over the years, but seeing him there before me wrenched everything back.
I needed to be something. Anything.
I fingered the bagel, and my husband followed my eyes. “Roman?”
He knew my beseeching expression all too well. “Bend down,” Roman forced me to touch my toes, and then my hands melded into them. I was shrinking, rounding out, and softening at the same time.
Immediately the burst of pleasure from his touch pulled me into ecstasy. “Wee!” I shrieked as I fell to the floor. I hit the chair and bounced to the tiles below, feeling so round and...nice. “Oh,” I purred, wobbling in a circle until I grew still. “I am so soft...I love being soft.” I felt much better. My sadness had diminished to almost nothing. Now I was merely baked goods.
Roman picked me up, a wry smile on my face. “Oh, I so want to eat you,” he murmured, swirling me around on his finger.
“Squeeze me,” I demanded.
Delight. Sheer delight.
I was lying on the plate of my bagel brethren, rubbing myself against them as well as I could. It felt good, what can I say? Meanwhile, Roman was finishing up his coffee. “Corrie, let's change you back. You have to get to school soon, and we still need to shower...unless you'd like to shower together.” He raised an eyebrow.
“As a person?”
“Corrie, yes. As a person.”
“I like being a bagel!” I whined as he plucked me from the bowl and changed me back. I always hated the moment I was back to human. It was such a letdown.
I followed him wordlessly into the bathroom. He began to disrobe, and I wasn't even too interested. I was still in morning mode, plus I had acquired the added nastiness of being changed back from something when I didn't want to be. “Oh, Corrie, we're out of shampoo,” Roman picked up the empty bottle.
“So make some more,” I retorted. Then I brightened. “With me!”
“We'll never get you to school at this rate!” he frowned.
“Please? I'll time us. Ten minutes for me to be shampoo.” I turned on the timer that sat on our counter, and stripped all my clothes off at once.
“Oh, Corrie...” but Roman could not resist me or the pleading look on my face.
“And make it really nice.”
“Really nice, as in Roman needs to get out of the shower nice?”
“Yes,” I murmured. “That nice.”
His hands were everywhere on me at once as he slowly forced my body into a thick, yellow fluidy form. Arms and legs disappeared into my sides, and I was a wavering column of liquid, suspended upright and held in place by Roman's immense power. “Now for your house.” He uncapped the shampoo bottle, and I was careening through the air.
“Ooooh!” I cried, my voice being smothered as I was sucked inside the bottle. I filled it up to the brim, and Roman placed the cap back on.
“My own little genie,” he smiled at my face inside the bottle, and jiggled me for good measure.
I couldn't wait to be used.
The rubbing! The massaging! I was all over Roman, I was in the bottle, I was on his hands, in his hair... “You like?” he asked, working me into a thick lather.
“I love! Being foamy is so amazing! And I'm everywhere!” said my voice from, well, everywhere.
“I made you body wash instead of shampoo. That way you can clean all of me.” He made sure the stopper was tight in the drain. I guess he wasn't sure what would happen to me if I went down it.
“I'll have to rub you here,” he inserted some of me between his legs, which sent us into such explosive bursts of pleasure, that, well, at least from a body wash standpoint, I couldn't really describe it.
Reluctantly, I dressed. “Roman, I'm almost ready!” I called.
“Come in here.”
I followed his voice into the empty kitchen. “What are you?”
“I'm here.”
A velvet box vibrated on the counter, and I opened it to see a beautiful necklace inside...with a slight, unnoticeable face on the pendant. “I'm a present for your first day.”
I removed him from the box and held him up. He was an opal; his rainbow colors were iridescent in the sunlight. “Oh, Roman! You're beautiful!”
“I promised you I'd be with you your first day. Put me on.”
I did. He trembled a bit against my flesh, and he was slightly warm. “Oh, I so wish...”
“You're staying human,” said my pendant in a harsh tone. “Get to school, and you'll be plenty of things when you get home tonight. Maybe that model kit I promised you or something. Go.”
I was so glad I was going to a local college. I could not bear to imagine what it might have been like if I was far from Roman. I guess he could have moved to where the college was, but, my life was here, and I liked it that way.
“Welcome, everyone. For many of you, this is your first college class, and it won't be your last!” laughed my new professor.
“Brilliant man. Brilliant,” commented my necklace facetiously.
“Roman!” I grabbed it tightly, hoping the people nearby me had not heard.
“Argh,” he responded in a garbled voice. You hear me still, right?
Now I heard him in my mind. “Yes. I thought I had to be transformed to hear you in my mind.”
No, I seem to be able to manage telepathy with you in my transformed state even though you're not.
That's fine. If you really need to talk to me, do it in my head. Meanwhile, let me focus. I released him from my grip.
Damn, that was nice. Can you hold me like that again? His voice popped back in my head.
I sighed. “Oh, Roman...” I gripped him again. Hard. I think he was so happily buried in my grasp that he eventually feel asleep.
I was taking notes so meticulously in the next class that my pen ran out. Sorting through my pocketbook only resulted in another non-working pen and a broken pencil. I'd been so busy being stuff that I hadn't really prepared for school very well.
“Damn! I need a pen!” I said under my breath. My slumbering necklace awoke.
Really? In that huge purse you don't have a single working writing implement?
I rolled my eyes in response.
Take me off and put me in your purse. I'll change into one there.
I held him in my hand for a moment, relishing the feel of his smooth, hard form against my flesh. Or I'll stay happily ensconced in your palm. That's good too.
I tossed him into my purse, there was some movement within, and then I pulled out a golden pen.
Don't lose me. I'm worth millions, my pen-husband smiled at me. I gripped him tightly, and his smile grew wider as I made use of him.
“And for all of you commuting students, if you haven't heard yet, you're invited to the party tonight at Uvin Hall. It's like a freshman mixer, basically. See you there!”
You should go to that, said my necklace. We were done note-taking, and he was tired of being written with, so he went back to jewelry form.
“Why? We can be stuff tonight. I have no homework yet.”
Meet people, socialize.
“Roman, I'm not looking for a boyfriend. I'm married.”
It'll be good for you. I'll even come if you want.
“As what? A sock?”
If you'd like that. I might enjoy snuggling around your foot...and toes...
I hated going to stuff like this where I didn't know anybody. But if Roman were with me, it wouldn't be as bad. Maybe it wasn't such a terrible idea.
“Hey, Corrie! I didn't know you were going here!”
For a moment, I couldn't even fathom that someone other than Roman was talking to me. But I looked up, and there was one of my old high school classmates standing there with another boy. He came over and embraced me. “So good to see you!” he grinned.
This was Scott Landsman, who had often flirted with me back in the day. This was merely a friendly hug, but I felt Roman vibrate angrily against my neck, and I drew quickly away. “Nice to see you, Scott,” I uttered, fingering my pendant. It didn't say anything.
“Larry, this is Corrie. I went to high school with her,” Scott said to his friend.
Larry took my hand and shook it. “Nice to meet you. Pretty necklace you have there.”
My hand immediately froze on Roman's smooth form.
Asshole, Roman said in my head.
I began to stroke it reassuringly once more. “He is pretty.”
“He?”
“It.”
Larry looked at me strangely.
When we got home, Roman, in human form, was pacing back and forth in the living room.
“He's a friend, Roman. Friends do that in this day and age. They do hug. It means nothing.”
“He's a man.”
“So?”
“So that's not...proper.”
“Oh, Roman. Get into the twenty-first century already!”
He backed down at my exclamation. “That Larry guy is an ass,” he finally grumbled.
“Why? Because he gave you a compliment? You turned yourself into a truly gorgeous, probably priceless, piece of jewelry, and you don't expect people to comment on your form?”
“My form. Like I'm some...model or something...” he reddened, looking bashful. “I'm sorry, Corrie. I'm being a jerk. It's just...”
“Overprotectiveness?” I offered.
He chuckled. “Yup. When you wait as long as I have for you, well, I don't want anyone else near you. Especially these little hormonal...males...” He pondered this in silence. “Maybe you shouldn't go to that party after all..”
I sighed. I knew he meant well, but he had to know he could trust me. How could I even think of being with another man? I mean, who wanted an ordinary, powerless male who couldn't transform things? I think I would probably die without Roman. I needed him. I needed his power. He was simply a part of me. “Look, you knew my dad. You knew he would never betray or hurt you.”
He turned away, nodding at the same time. “I know, Corrie. It's not you I distrust. It's the other people. The...Larrys,” he spat the name out, “and the...whatever that guy's name was...”
“Scott.”
“Scott...that name always makes me think of butterscotch. I bet he'd make a tasty bowl of candy.”
“Roman!”
“He, he, he,” he chuckled, and created an early dinner for us.
“Now this stupid party is at seven. You coming as human Roman or object-Roman?”
“You probably don't want to show up to a college party with your husband. It might be harder to...make friends...with...people...”
I could see that Roman was really struggling with this whole idea. “Fine. Be a necklace again, then. Now what dress should I wear that you'll match with?” I began to rummage through my closet.
“Forget the necklace. You'll wear me.”
Roman was casual enough to wear with my white sandals, but he changed them into blue to match his material. As I walked towards the building, I wiped at my brow. It was a a warm night, and I was perspiring. Of course, that probably also had something to do with my nervousness as well... “Roman, can you have shorter sleeves?” I requested.
“No problem,” said my dress, and its three-quarter sleeves traveled up my arm so they were now just below my shoulders.
“Nice. You're lovely.”
“Touch me.”
Surreptitiously, I quickly rubbed myself down my side. “I can't feel myself up in public, okay?”
My dress tittered, sending shivers through me. “Stay still!” I demanded crossly, and it instantaneously grew limp.
I entered the building, and my bravado melted away. It was my worst nightmare. Scores of people filled the large meeting hall, which was usually used as a gym. Everyone was talking to each other, and I did not recognize a single face.
You don't know anyone, do you, Corrie?
Roman, I wish I was a statue right now.
I felt Roman chuckle against me. His skirt swished slightly. You want to stand in front of the crowd as a statue?
I just...I don't want to be human right now. Maybe an animal would be better. I'd get lost in the animal urges...Roman, you're itchy.
Sorry.
I scratched him.
Feels nice. Thanks.
It's like everyone knows each other except me. They're talking like they've known each other forever.
Not everyone. Go introduce yourself to someone.
I hate that.
I guarantee everyone doesn't know each other. And I'll prove it to you. Go into the bathroom.
Why?
Damn it, Corrie! I'm going to change you!
“Ooh!” I cried out happily. The girl next to me gave me a dirty look.
Roman stood beside me in a stall of the woman's bathroom. “Roman, you better hurry before someone comes in here.”
“Hold me.”
“We're merging?”
“We're merging!”
As we melded together, he was stroking me so hard, I almost blacked out from the pleasure.
And then we were a fly.
“Cool!” I gasped. The leftover pleasure was still flowing through our fly body, and I couldn't move it.
But apparently Roman could. We were suddenly in the air, exiting the bathroom through the crack above the door. “You're just here for the ride, Corrie. I'm in control of the body. Let's show you how much people know each other. We will truly be the fly on the wall. Or...the fly hovering above...”
He stopped over a group of students who were talking about how awesome it was when they were all in gym together in high school.
I thought no one knew each other, I said ruefully.
We darted off. “Bad choice of subjects. Hey, how about these guys?” A boy stood, hands in his pockets, attempting to talk to two laughing girls.
“So...how old are you guys?” he stuttered.
“Same age as you. That's why it's a freshman 'mixer.'”
“Some freshmen aren't the same age. If they skipped a year or two.”
“Right,” one of the girls said almost derisively. “Nice to meet you. Bye.” And they walked off.
Turn them into a boat or something, I said.
“Yeah, they're pretty bitchy.” He buzzed us down past them, and they started shrieking about 'icky flies'.
“You could talk to the guy,” Roman reluctantly pointed to the sad-looking boy, who was now blinking after the girls.
But I knew that would make my husband feel bad, so I figured it would be more prudent to speak to women.
“Here. Try these two. They look pretty confused.”
We stopped before two girls, both obviously uncomfortable. “I went to Vinland High School North. Did you?”
“No, I went to South.”
“Oh....did you like it?”
“Um, no.”
Roman brought us back to the bathroom. “See what I mean?” He changed us back. “Those last two didn't know each other. They were trying to make conversation. And look – who cares what people think? I learned that one a long time ago. I mean, not to sound arrogant or anything, but I am so much more powerful, why should I care what they think, anyway?”
“I'm not powerful.”
“You can be anything you want to be, because you and me are a team. You're damned powerful. Now go.”
“I hate making small talk. I'm an introvert, and I'm proud of it,” I said. Meanwhile, the urge to be something hard and solid was now almost overwhelming. “Make me a statue, Roman. Please. Or a rock, or a–”
“Right. Every bathroom needs its own boulder.”
“Turn me into a pebble. Keep me in your pocket!”
“No. I'm getting back on you and you're going out there.” He wrapped himself around me, and we were back off.
Nervously, I approached the Vinland girls. I would show Roman that I could totally do this. “Hi, I'm Corrie Smyth. You girls from around here?”
See? How hard was that? Roman said encouragingly.
Both girls gripped cups in their hands. “We're from Vinland,” one said, taking a sip.
“Oh, that's not far. Did you go to high school there?”
“Um, yes.”
“Oh.” And that was it. What else could I say to complete strangers? “Um, was it nice?”
They chuckled. “School sucks,” said one.
Then why the hell is she here? Roman commented in my head. I ignored him.
Shuffling my foot nervously, I coughed. They were about to turn away from me when Roman suggested I ask her her major. Probably basket-weaving, he added.
“What are your majors?” I almost pleaded.
They turned back around. “Not sure yet. I think philosophy or art history might be cool.”
“I like cooking. I want to do something with that.”
I think they should be scientists, Roman said.
Then they turned away, and I was left alone.
“Roman, I'm done here. Let's go home and watch a movie,” I said out loud.
“Corrie! Hey!”
Larry and Scott approached, cups in hand. Scott held his up. “Good beer!” he cried in approval. He came way too close to me, and I could smell the alcohol on his breath. “So glad you're here, Corrie!” he brushed across my breasts. Whether this was on purpose or not, I wasn't sure. But my dress didn't care. I could feel it bristle furiously.
Then Scott embraced me. Hard. He crushed into me, squeezing Roman's very fibers against my skin.
“You...little...bastard!”
Scott pulled away from me, baffled. “Who said that?”
“Said what?” I was shaking my head, silently cursing my husband. “Scott, maybe you had a bit too much to drink?”
“Oh, Larry had more than me.” He saw my insulted expression, and he softened. “Sorry, Corrie. I've just...always had this thing for you.”
My clothing came out with an explosive, “I'll make him a thing, damn it.”
I grabbed at Roman's skirt. “I'll be right back. I have to...talk to...my dress...” I started to back away.
“Her what?” Scott said.
“Dunno,” replied Larry.
I raced off before I got to hear the end of that particularly scholarly exchange.
I felt Roman changing around me before I could even make it into a stall. I slammed the door, and was crushed together with an angry, very human husband. “I felt that! I'm done being your dress!”
I inhaled deeply. “Well, I can't go out like this,” I indicated my bra and panties.
Flippantly, he tossed a piece of toilet paper at me and it enveloped me in blue material, turning into the exact type of dress Roman had been. “There,” he muttered. “Scott will never know the difference.”
“Roman, he's an old, slightly drunk friend. He's harmless.”
“He harmed me a bit,” he muttered.
I was actually growing frustrated with my husband. I exited the stall, but he remained, sulking.
“So you're just going to stay here?”
“Whatever.”
“Roman you're acting like a kid.”
“I make a good kid. You've seen it.”
“I'm going out. Bye.” I knew I couldn't go out without him, and I knew he wouldn't let me.
There was a slight burst of wind behind me, and I turned to see my opal necklace sparkling back up at me. “Put me on,” it insisted. “I can't leave you alone with those animals.”
I wiped him off first. After all, he was just lying on the bathroom floor.
Larry walked right up to me. “Where'd that come from?” he demanded, grabbing Roman quite hard and tugging on his chain.
“Larry–” I gasped, actually having trouble breathing. “Too...tight...”
“OW!” Larry staggered back, grasping his finger and gaping at my neck. “What the hell is that? A needle-necklace?” he stared down at his bleeding finger, confused. “It's like...teeth marks or something! How the hell did your necklace bite me?”
“Really?” Scott asked, interested. He studied Larry's finger after a large gulp of beer. “Damn! It really has teeth marks! Maybe it's time to stop the drinking?”
“I've just begun! Just need a band-aid...”
Larry ran off, and Scott approached me, his eyes on Roman. Unfortunately Roman winked at him.
“It's like the necklace has a face...Corrie, did your necklace just wink at me?”
Carefully, Scott lifted Roman by the chain, careful not to touch the opal pendant.
“Hi!” Roman emitted in a too-perky voice.
Scott dropped him against my chest and fell to the floor.
After Scott's fainting (which no one seemed to care about), Roman had disappeared from my neck as a flash of light, and I located him by the refreshment area. He stood by a punch bowl, drinking deeply. He was quite dashing in a dark suit and red tie, and I could swear he had made himself look younger. College age, in fact.
Immediately I grew worried. I had never seen Roman drink, thus I had no idea how he would react if he had had too much. “Roman, why are you human?”
“I sometimes ask myself that too.”
“I mean, why aren't you staying a necklace?”
He put down a cup he had been holding. “Corrie, I can't stop these guys as jewelry!”
“Stop? Who needs stopping?”
“They want you, Corrie. Don't you see that?”
Roman obviously did not have much of a tolerance, or perhaps he did and had simply drank too much. I wasn't sure, but when he tottered, I grabbed at him. This was so unlike him, I was shocked. He was not a drinker. Roman had always been the honest, upright person who would never think of losing control in public...And him losing control was far more dangerous than a simple college boy doing so.
“Roman, we need to go home. You could hurt someone.”
“Well, not hurt, but–”
“You need coffee, or a cold shower, or whatever it is that helps–”
And then, the unthinkable happened. Scott, looking the worse for wear, and Larry decided to come over to us once again.
As they pushed through the drunken masses, Roman uttered, “I would like a nice cup of tea...”
He picked up his cup and started to drink. I figured he had changed his drink into tea, so he wouldn't be imbibing anymore alcohol. I was somewhat relieved. Just somewhat.
“Wow...it's like I hallucinated there, then I seriously passed out,” Scott said to us. “I'm okay, though.”
“So good to hear,” Roman uttered, lifting his cup and drinking deeply. “So you've come to join us again, Larry.” When Larry was near enough, Roman patted him on the back. “You seem like chamomile. Like my mom used to make...”
“Who are you?” Larry asked, and suddenly he lurched. An odd, confused look came over his face, and then he grabbed at himself. “Damn, I'm wasted,” he commented, and he collapsed to the floor.
“Dude, your turn to pass out!” Scott cried in amusement. His eyes narrowed. “Hey! Looks like you're like...changing and getting...white...”
“My arms!”
And Larry became a cup of tea before my eyes.
Scott scratched his head, looking around at the people milling about. “Did anyone see what I saw?” He peered down at the steaming cup. “Larry, is that you?”
“What the hell happened to me?” cried the cup.
“You have a face?” Scott picked the cup up and inspected it, but Roman ripped it from his hands.
“That's mine!”
“Roman!” I was aghast; I could not believe what my husband had done.
“I made it, thus it's mine.” He put Larry to his lips.
“No! Don't drink me...or part of me...” Larry seemed somewhat lost. I guess it would be odd, being a cup as well as the liquid it contained.
“Delicious tea,” Roman commented, and tilted the cup into his mouth.
I lunged at him, knocking Larry from his hands and splashing him to the floor. I don't know what made me more horrified – the fact that Larry was splashed all over everything, or the fact that Roman...
...had just swallowed some of him.
His eyes opened wide. “Who would have though it? Transformed people taste absolutely great!” He licked at his lips. “I should have done this years ago!”
Gawking at him, I picked up the cup that was Larry and looked at his face. “Larry,” I whispered in fear, “are you still alive? He swallowed some of you..”
The eyes opened, and the cup actually smiled. “He sure did, and I feel a bit of myself traveling through him. It's really awesome! This has got to be a dream, or some drinking-hallucination thing...Mmm...I think I must be getting absorbed into him or something...”
I grabbed Roman's arm and pulled him outside, Scott following drunkenly behind. I forced Larry into his hand. “Turn him back,” I demanded, then looked worriedly to the entrance. “All of him.”
“Or what?”
“Or what, Roman? Come on, you can't do this. I mean, part of him is inside of you!”
Roman took the cup from me, almost dropping it. “But Corrie, I like him like this.”
“Roman!”
“Okay, okay, but I better go back to where he spilled.” I pushed him back inside, and he stood in the puddle that was also Larry.
“Hey, dude! I feel you walking in me. It's...weird.”
Roman set the cup down in the middle of the puddle and peered at the crowd. “I should do this here?”
No one seemed to be paying much attention to us, and they probably would be too drunk to remember if they did witness anything. “Change him! Now!”
The various pools and splatters of tea grew bright and collected all together around the cup. Soon there was a bright glowing ball in the cup's place, and I scooped it up. “Now let's finish this outside.”
Roman and Scott followed me back out. Larry was warm in my hand, and I could swear he was snuggling up to me in that form. It was rather creepy.
I placed him on the ground. “Go,” I ordered.
Roman seemed deep in thought. “He'd be a good doormat.”
“What?”
And Larry flattened into a mat. “Hey, this feels even awesomer!” It cried happily.
“Roman! No!”
“And you, my dear, deserve a far nicer pendant than I was. Scott, I wanted to turn you into candy, and now that I know you'll taste great, maybe we'll do that later. But right now, I want you to adorn my wife. Be a diamond-encrusted necklace!”
Roman grabbed Scott's arms and held them up in the air. Scott moaned as the changes started to work through him. “Yes, feels good to become something of worth, huh, Scott?”
Scott answered with a few writhes back and forth as his arms thinned and shrank, and his changing body now dangled from Roman's arms.
“No, Roman. Please,” I begged.
“Watch him transform, Corrie! It's for you! It's great entertainment!”
“Ah, I love how it feels, too,” said the half-man, half-necklace. I had to admit I was fascinated seeing flesh become metal and stone. His arms were now becoming golden chains, his legs were long gone, and the rest of his body was becoming one sparkly, oval mass. As soon as he was maybe a foot big, diamonds started coming off of his chains, suspended by more gold, until he was a sparkling, very exquisite, chandelier necklace.
Roman jostled him, and Scott's diamonds cast rainbows all over. “Scott, you look better than ever!”
The necklace shook. The main and largest diamond, mid-center, smiled and said, “And I feel better than ever. Can I stay this way?”
Chuckling, Roman placed the jewelry around my neck. “If Corrie wants that.”
Scott felt slightly warm against me, as Roman had. He was quivering, which was disarming, to say the least. “Oh, Corrie, this is my biggest dream. To be against your skin...”
Roman frowned, but surprisingly did not say anything.
“Damn! What does that feel like?” asked Larry the doormat.
“Awesome! You?”
“Awesomer! I'm...flat! It's great!”
“Drunken idiots...” Roman mumbled. “Enjoy your necklace, Corrie.”
“Roman?” I held up Scott by his middle diamond. He grinned at my touch. “Can you–”
“No, I'm not changing them back yet,” Roman looked hurt.
“But they're not...”
He swept his arm around me. “They're drunk. They won't remember.”
I bowed my head. “You are too, Roman. You'd never do this if you were sober.”
This gave him pause. He was silent for a long while, pacing back and forth. Finally he rejoined me. “I'm...I'm sorry...” he whispered. “I guess you're right. I'm just...not thinking...”
“And, honestly, after you drank some of Larry, I'm scared that he won't be okay when he's human. Really.”
Sighing, he positioned the mat in front of him. “What are you doing?” it said.
“Changing you back,” Roman muttered.
“No! Don't! I like this!”
“Too bad.”
Larry was quickly human. He stretched his arms and legs, then tumbled to the floor. “I am so...bombed...”
Surveying Larry to see if he was whole, Roman coughed. “He seems fine, if uncoordinated.” He came towards me and unclasped Scott, who starting shaking madly. “No! No! Don't take me off her!”
“And you, you horny bastard necklace, especially need to change back!” as Scott grew human, I heard Roman say “You touch her again and I'll turn you into candy and eat all of you. Consider that my next experiment!” I wasn't sure I was supposed to hear it, but I did.
Larry and Scott stumbled off into the woods. They'd probably get lost, fall asleep, wake up completely hung over... I hoped they'd be okay. But I didn't have time to wonder. I was becoming something with wings, and I knew it was time to go home.
Roman was flapping beside me. “We're going home as moths,” he uttered, flying a little lopsided. “Then we're watching that movie you mentioned.”
I only had one class at noon the next day, so I didn't mind staying up late with Roman. As we entered the house, he slammed the door behind us and literally pounced on me. “That was so great!” he cried triumphantly. I guess he wasn't feeling guilty anymore.
I merely sighed. It wasn't worth arguing about when he still had alcohol in his system. “Let's go watch a movie like you wanted.”
But he was not done. “You wanted to be solid before?” And before I could resist, Roman was on top of me, flowing into me everywhere. Absolutely...everywhere.
“Oh, God!” I was only able to gasp before I melted down with him, becoming him...
“Feel me, Corrie! Feel the...raw...power...changing us...pleasuring us...”
So maybe the alcohol was speaking, but it was definitely stimulating as we hardened into one perfect golden ingot. We simply remained on the floor like that, he exclaiming how amazing he felt, and I, though of course enjoying it as well, not saying much.
“We are one solid gold block!” Roman shrieked.
Finally I requested he change us back. We still had a movie to watch, and I had to get to sleep at some point. So we regained human form, and I let him pick a movie. He now seemed more sedate. He was relatively quiet, and I could see that he was once again ashamed of his behavior.
“Set up the TV and I'll be right in. I'd like to watch “Alien” if you don't mind.”
Roman loved the "Alien" series. I have no idea why. He'd seen each movie hundreds of times. But he went off in the kitchen for snacks, and I set up the TV. “All set,” I announced.
As I sat with my eyes on the empty screen, an odd sound met my ears. I could describe it best as a hellish, hissing, shriek. I flipped around in fear to view something straight out of my worst nightmare...or at least straight out of the “Alien” movie. The 'thing' had horrible glistening green skin, no eyes or nose, a long head that curved back behind it...And a gooey saliva-like substance was now flowing out of its horrid mouth and down my neck.
“Eww! Roman! What the hell?”
The mouth twisted into something that was supposed to be a smile, but was more of a satanic-looking sneer. “I'm a xenomorph, Corrie! You've seen the "Alien" movies before. And I'm going to make you my queen.” He whipped his pointed tail around menacingly. Well, it looked menacing, at least.
“Don't you dare turn me into one of those things!”
But horrible form and all, he was able to do a lot to me with those long, awful alien fingers of his, and, helplessly, I began to transform. Apparently queens were a lot larger than regular xenomorphs, and I towered above him. Not that it mattered much.
We watched the movie, two horrible salivating aliens, hand-in-hand.
In bed, I asked a wiped-out but fully human Roman, “Why did you change us into those horrible things?”
“I feel better when I'm transformed. I'm back to feeling crappy now. Good-night.”
And he was out cold.
And the next day I went to class. A hung-over Roman turned into a hairclip, which I wore proudly. He said it was nice to be nestled in my hair. He said nothing more on Larry and Scott, and although they gave me some odd looks when I saw them, neither ever mentioned their strange drunken experience. Although at one point Scott asked me if I was married.
I was very thankful for the weekend when it came, and I was ready to transform. I felt myself shrink at Roman's touch, and I giggled as I tried to guess what my body was becoming. Roman placed his hands between my legs, which made me change so fast I did not have much of a chance to figure it out.
“You're a model of a boat!” Roman cried, smiling down at me as I sat rigid and motionless on the carpet. Yes, I could feel my sail, and the front, the back...
Model?
Roman snapped his fingers, and, with perfect synchronization, I literally fell to pieces.
“Now I can put you back together! You're a model kit!”
Yes, I had wanted that at one point. And being in all different pieces was mind-bending. I started to count how many different points of view I had but quickly lost track.
Roman picked up what I think was my flagpole. He rubbed it. A lot. “I can do this with every little piece of you. Imagine that!”
Yes, imagine that. And for many hours, my husband sat in rapt concentration, putting me together. It probably could have taken him less time, but he really came through on his promise. He fondled every last bit of me.
It was awesome.
