Hearing a strange voice nearby, Roman froze with a start, leaving me in a half-formed, gelatinous state. Just barely able to move, I fell back into the water, and Roman splashed around desperately to rescue me. Unfortunately I kept slipping from his grip.
The owner of the voice waded into the water alongside of Roman. “Here, shape-shifter, you need help?”
“No,” Roman mumbled, finally gathering me up and tossing me on the sand. He looked very troubled.
“Is that, like, your girlfriend?” the stranger asked. He was a young man, maybe in his twenties, but he looked like he had seen more of life than even an octogenarian had. There were very evident scars running across his wrists and healed needle tracks on his arms.
“You shouldn't be here,” Roman said. “It's dangerous. There's sharks. And,” he motioned toward me, “half-jellyfishes.”
“And there's you!” the boy cried quite happily.
“Well...”
“Look, I live here. See that old beach house?” He pointed to an abandoned shack high up on the bluffs. “I have nothing. I've been clean for years, but I have nothing, no one, and...so I stay here. I sit and watch the waves all day, eat what I can find...One day I might just join it all...”
Oh no, another suicidal person. Roman to the rescue.
Yet he looked reluctant to offer help. “What's your name?”
“Sean. Listen, you didn't say,” he pointed to me, covering his mouth in delighted shock. “It really is alive. It's moving!”
“It's my wife,” Roman uttered.
Roman, help him. And change me back. The sun is drying me out, I said in my mind.
Sean watched in awe as I re-formed. “You really can change people into stuff too? That is...wow...I never thought that was possible!” He wrinkled his brows, and then a dreamy look came over his face. “Does it last forever?”
Roman sighed. “If I don't change the person back.”
Sean turned to me. “Could you think like that, or were you just ooze?”
“Whatever form I'm in, I can think. Even ooze. It's still me, but my body is in a different shape.”
Sean regarded us both thoughtfully. He glanced back at the decaying structure he called home, then tapped at the water with his bare foot. “I always wanted to be a dolphin...” he whispered, gazing over the waters with desire.
“Let him, Roman,” I urged. I thought back to weeks before, when we had encountered a similar situation with a woman in a library. Roman had made her a swan, and she had flown off, perhaps the most grateful swan that ever lived.
Roman sighed again. “Forever? It would be nearly impossible to find you if you wanted to turn back.”
“Why would I want to turn back? What do I have to come back to? Nothing. No friends, family, future...”
“You could have a future. You're young,” Roman pointed out.
Sean leaned toward Roman and grabbed his hand entreatingly. “Please, Mister. If you have this power, please use it. You would make me the happiest...dolphin,” he smiled at this, “ever.”
Shaking his head, Roman acquiesced. I knew he could see with his own eyes that this young man would never be happy as a human. Especially after learning it was possible to become a dolphin as he had always dreamed. “Get back in the water. We'll all change so we can monitor you for a bit. Then you're on your own after that.”
“Does it–”
“No, it feels great.”
As Roman transformed all three of us at once (which was challenging, he told me later), I discovered that changing in the water was quite nice. And I loved my new, buoyant form.
I could see that Sean was beyond ecstatic. He flopped and thrashed in bliss as the last bits of his changes completed. Then he began to dash back and forth, testing his new body's speed and agility. We watched until he returned, bubbles pouring out of his mouth. Then he looked at us expectantly.
Sean, I have no idea what you just said. You can't talk. You're a dolphin, Roman mentioned to the new animal.
I hear you in my mind, though. Are dolphins telepathic?
Roman rolled his dolphin eyes, which was kind of funny. No. But, since you're transformed, I can hear you. I allow Corrie that when I change her as well. To hear you, I mean. Otherwise only I could.
So, what do you think? I asked Sean.
What do I think? This is my dream come true! I'm going to swim the oceans, gorging myself, playing with the other dolphins, maybe even finding a mate...Hey, can I have kids?
Leave it to a twenty-something male to think of that, Roman commented to me. Yes, you can.
Might be weird, though. I still have a human mind.
Yes, but the dolphin instincts will become stronger and stronger as life goes on, and you'll be okay with it. You're a dolphin now, not a person.
We stood regarding Sean, who was twitching his fins in anticipation. You can go, he told us. I'm fine. I need to go off, now...
This is really what you want? Roman queried somewhat doubtfully.
Yes. Thank you, really. You've given me my deepest desire. Seriously, I owe you my life!
Have a good one, I called after him, but he was gone, having disappeared deep into the depths.
So Roman had performed another good deed, but I still had things to be. He changed me into a barracuda and went up onto the beach to take a rest. I amused myself in the water for a bit, but then grew lonely. I tried to come up onto the shore, but Roman jumped up from his chair and raced at me. “Corrie, what the hell are you doing? You'll die! Get back in the water! You're a fish!”
Yes, that just had occurred to me as I began to flop around, gasping for breath. I was trapped in a small divot in the sand. Roman, I need help. I'm stuck!
“Oh, Corrie,” he sighed, and made me human. I followed him back up the beach.
“Why'd you do that?” he asked, sitting back in his chair.
I sat down beside him. “I was getting lonely. Can you join me?”
He reclined further back. “Yes, but give me a bit more time. I've been changing for decades, but, even with your father, I don't think I've ever done so many changes in one day. I really am feeling it.”
I studied him with alarm. “Are you okay? Should we stop?”
He chuckled, and picked up a cup from the table beside him. “Oh, I'll be fine. Just need a bit more rest.” He slurped from the cup, and I wondered where the beverage had come from. Probably it had been a sand grain or a stone at one point...
“What are you drinking?” I asked, crossing my legs and sitting back in my chair.
“Fruit cocktail,” he uttered, trying to position himself so he was still covered by the large umbrella we sat under. “I like the sun better when I'm a plant,” he muttered.
I studied his glass, the colorful fruits bobbing in the liquid. “Turn me into that.”
He smashed the glass down a bit forcibly, and it broke, sending the drink all over. “Oh, Corrie, I told you I'm not drinking you!”
I was surprised at his outburst. “I know! I wasn't asking you to. I just want to be one of those.”
And with a small grumble from my husband, I was.
“You look so delicious, and perfectly non-alcoholic,” he commented. “I'm always very careful with that. I never drink and transform,” he added, swishing me around and settling me down on the table.
I wondered what would happen if he did. Might be interesting...or maybe deadly?
Meanwhile, this was one of the weirder forms I'd experienced up until now. I was a deep, large glass, I was the liquid inside, and my features were floating on top in the form of fruits. My vision was kind of bobbing around because my eyes were..
“Grapes. Your eyes are grapes,” Roman contributed, hearing my thoughts.
I giggled, which made them bob around worse. “I'm getting dizzy,” said my peach-half lips.
“Experience that form a bit,” Roman instructed drowsily, shutting his eyes. “It should be fun.”
“It is. Like my legs turned into a glass which surrounds the rest of my liquid body. And my face is floating on top of me.”
Eyes closed, Roman snorted. “Good description.”
“I just wish you hadn't transformed me so quickly.”
He opened one eye. “I thought you'd like that.”
Honestly, my feelings were mixed here. A fast change was like an amazing rush, and there you were in an alien form. A slow change, though, well, it was...ecstatic.
“Next one'll be slow. Give me a few minutes.”
“Oh God, oh GOD, Roman! I'm getting so HUGE!” I was becoming a whale. We were in relatively deep water, and my body was getting so big, I could already feel my stomach hit the bottom.
“You've got a while more to go!” Roman cried up to me. He had promised to turn into a companion for me as soon as I was finished changing.
My legs were fused, my tail fin was forming, and I was still enlarging in every way. My eyes had migrated to the sides of my giant head, my human features were gone, and it was still going...
Roman was obviously taking his sweet time transforming me, and he was stroking my changing body all the while. Just like Sean, I was writhing back and forth, the pleasure radiating through me like lightning.
“You're almost all whale, Corrie...last bits of the transformation happening now...”
My arms had flattened into fins, and my skin was smooth and thick. An explosion of bliss symbolized the end of my metamorphosis, and I exhaled a huge gasp through my blowhole.
Oh, that was amazing, Roman! And I have a blowhole! I made a strange tittering sound. It was supposed to be a laugh, but it came out sounding like whale song.
Roman swam beside me. He was miniscule. “My turn now. Enjoy the show!”
And, through my whale eyes, I did. It was like watching an inflating balloon as Roman expanded in every direction. His eyes were shut and he let a happy moan escape as he grew more streamlined and fish-like. I rubbed my body against his, and he began flapping around as he finished (and savored) his changes. I hoped my ministrations had made his experience more pleasant.
They did, he answered. You know very well that being touched while transforming ups the pleasure by...well, great amounts.
We swam back into the depths, playing and enjoying ourselves. I've always loved to be large sea creatures, Roman said as we somersaulted through some rocky outcroppings. It's just so...calming. And, well, to be so big...Corrie, you must be loving this.
I am! I am! I had the urge to rub my hands down my smooth, plump 'tummy'. Unfortunately, I had fins.
We came across several other whales, and we joined them for a while. When one male expressed interest in me, though, we figured it would be a good time for a form change.
My body was shrinking down, and for a moment I thought I had arms. But they were becoming wing-like, and I was shortening, but growing a tail...I looked at Roman for some clue as to what I'd become, and I saw. He had snapped into the form of a manta ray. And I was one too.
I was flying through the water, like a kite or an eagle. Roman and I crashed into each other several times as we were not quite used to the odd figure of the creature. I think we had gotten to used to the more lumbering and large whale form.
And thus I was changing again; enlarging, thinning out...fins coming back...
Ah, good choice. The great white, commented Roman as he became one as well. Last sea creature on your list, right?
Why was it so enjoyable when my legs merged into a tail and fin? Who knew, but I figured that a mermaid transformation might be fun sometime in the future. That probably would feel great.
Yes, that's the last one, I finally answered, flipping my tail back and forth. The teeth were forming in my elongated mouth. I could feel their sharpness on my growing tongue.
And Roman looked quite attractive beside me, scary shark face and all. I had always thought sharks looked mean and, well, nasty. Now, being a shark myself, I could only see beauty in my mate. And I felt lust.
Take the time to feel the form out, get used to it a sec so we don't crash into stuff like we did as rays, Roman suggested.
Grudgingly, I obeyed, remaining relatively still in the water. The remaining buzz of the changes still coursed through me, and I 'experienced' the shark form. So nice...so compact...
But the shark instincts were creeping in, and I could feel almost an anger; a thirst to rip and pull at my prey... It almost scared me, but I hated to tell Roman. He looked like he was quite happy.
And then there was a smell, a taste in the water, that snapped my mind completely into shark mode. I had to have it.
Blood.
Corrie, where are you going?
I twisted towards the direction I sensed it, and I raced through the water.
It was flailing, it was helpless...meat, and I needed it...
A wounded seagull had fallen into the water and was thrashing around desperately. My mouth closed over it, and it was delicious, and I could feel it fighting, but I didn't care.
Corrie, you...killed it...
I turned to Roman, then, blood and feathers stuck in my teeth, and my humanity battled with my sharkness. I was....hungry...I answered weakly, and I thought back to what had just occurred.
Oh, no, Roman...I stammered in my mind.
“You were acting on instinct.” Roman, sobered, became human, and I did too. We waded up the beach and settled down on the sand. Then I began to cry.
“The poor thing, it had no chance,” I sobbed into his shirt.
He smoothed my hair and patted my back. “You were a shark. It's what sharks do. You know that.”
“But...I killed it and ate it! I wasn't thinking! I was acting on... instinct!”
“Corrie, I know you love transforming, but there's more to it than fun. It can be dangerous too, and it can be sad. You don't think I've eaten things? Remember you were a hawk and you wanted to eat that, whatever, rabbit, I think?”
“Yes, but I didn't.”
“This time you did.”
Very hurt, I looked away. “Don't turn me into any more predators,” I insisted.
Roman said I need to be something fun.
He turned me into a GameBoy. One of those hand-held video games...
And then he played on me. I don't even know what game he was playing, but the pressure of his fingers on my controls was enough for me. Another one of those massage experiences...
Even the movement on my screen tickled, and, as I often did when transformed, I began to giggle.
“Corrie, stop laughing! You're moving and making me lose!”
But...it tickles!
“Oh! I lost! Game over!” he rubbed his finger down my hard plastic side and over my on-off switch. “Bet this tickles even more, huh?”
“Oof...” I emitted out loud. My voice sounded tinny, like a video game sound.
“Let's get back home,” Roman said, and turned us into flies.
“Hmm. I'm not sure I want to be a house fly.”
“Why? It doesn't feel good?”
“It feels great, but when the fly instincts kick in, I'm going to be landing on stuff that I...well, let's just say waste materials are not my thing...”
“Understood. So, be...oh, you wanted to be a car! You'll get us home that way, and there's nothing like a good car transformation! Lie down on your stomach and I'll get you going!”
I'd seen a cartoon somewhere of a man becoming a car, and perhaps Roman had seen it too, because my changes had mimicked the cartoon. Hands and feet becoming wheels, eyes into headlights, lips into a grille. There was the enlarging, the elongating, and the delicious crunch of flesh becoming steel.
Roman stepped into his new sports car, and, with something suspiciously like a gasp, it took off. The pressure of Roman's foot on my gas pedal sent a shiver through my metal chassis. And he jacked open my windows so the wind ran through me. Delight. Sheer and utter delight.
Breaking speed laws many times over, we were nearly home. Roman pulled me over by the woods. Breathless himself, he left my purring motor on. He obviously knew how pleasant that felt. Unfolding the very-creased list, he said, “You also wanted to be a scooter and, oh, an airplane...We should have done that back in the clearing...Although it might be risky to have a full-size airplane appear out of nowhere. And flying you without letting the air traffic-control people know our plans...not good. How about a toy airplane?”
I thought about this. I did want to become a huge jet and have Roman fly me across the sky. I could imagine that transformation would be quite the experience. But I could always convince Roman to do this in the future. Meanwhile, being a toy...anything could be fun. “Turn me into a scooter, use me, then make me a remote-control airplane.”
Roman had some trouble keeping his foot on me and steering, but his tight grip on my handlebars was worth every moment. “Sorry, I'm not so light on my feet anymore,” he apologized. “I guess I could turn into a kid–”
He regressed into a young boy version of himself, and I recognized the same face I had seen weeks back when he had shared his childhood memories with me. He mounted me with a boyish yell, and we were off. Despite his new 'age', however, he still was not so physically adept, and we ended up in a pile of brush soon enough.
Laughing and growing back to adulthood, Roman picked me up and dusted off the dirt from my shiny metal frame. “You might have a better time as an airplane,” he said, and he coaxed me back into human form, only he did not grow me taller.
“Roman!” I cried in a very high-pitched voice.
“Come here, you little...” He grabbed doll-sized me up, hugging my small body in his arms. “Are you having the best day of your life?”
“Well, one of them!” I screeched. “Now fly me already!”
He placed me back on the ground. “Stomach pose again, and stretch out your arms.”
I obeyed, and I was changing yet again. My face stretched into a nosecone, while my arms went taut and became wings. My legs were fusing into a tail section, and somehow, a bit of me fell to the side, apparently my controller.
“That was your clothes,” Roman explained in response to my curious glance.
I hardened into shape and was still. Except for my...face. “I'm a talking plane, huh?”
He bent down and patted my airplane-cheek. “I wouldn't have it any other way.”
He jabbed a button on my controller, and an amazing burst jolted through me. I was rising into the sky, guided by my husband. The wind swept across my wings, and I watched Roman play with my controls like the child he had just been minutes ago. And I was under his control in a whole new way; I could move only at his whim. Kind of like when I'd been a car. Yes, I liked this.
Roman flew me up to our house in the woods. He landed me on the scrubby area that doubled as a front yard. Scooping me up, he uttered, “I should really seed this lawn. Hell, we should get a lawn.”
“I'll be it,” I volunteered.
“Well, you can't forever.”
“I can for a while.”
I melted into the dirt, expanding in every direction, more and more roots penetrating the sand below me. And the photosynthesis began.
“Now we need sprinklers to water you,” Roman commented.
“Be them.”
“Nah, we have a hose for that.”
Unfurling the hose as far as it would go, Roman gave me a drink, and I basked my blades in the late-afternoon sun. He walked through me, inspecting bushes, pulling weeds, and I didn't mind. I felt like I was making our property nice.
After Roman completed his yard work, he tapped at the list in his pocket. “It's getting dark, Corrie. I know you said you wanted to turn into a pool. Let's do that before nightfall.”
Reluctantly, I allowed him to change me. My roots came up, and I felt myself being drawn from the ground and forced toward the center of the yard. The sides of me started rising. I had become a pliant plastic material, and was forming into a small above-ground pool. “Fill me!” I cried.
Roman studied the hose that lay on the upturned earth. “That might take a while if I do it the normal way.” A smirk played over his face. “But I think I have a much more pleasant way.”
Roman grew transparent, and he became a column of water which flowed over my side. It hit my bottom with a pleasant splash, and then began to grow in volume.
“I feel you expanding in me, Roman.”
Kind of like the bathtub experience we had weeks ago, huh?
“Yes.”
I'm almost to your top. There. Feel good?
“I feel...full. Nice, complete, and full...of you.”
Enjoy, my love.
“You wanted to be a bronze fountain...with water coming out of you?”
I was human again. Roman was right- going from pool to human was definitely an experience not to miss.
“Well, the water part...Hmm...We need a source, or...”
“Can't you do that?”
“Corrie, I can transform people. I'm not a magician!”
I gulped. A magician was pretty close to what I'd call him...
“The water has to come from somewhere if you want it flowing through you continuously...Ah!”
“Got it?”
“Yup.”
In the near darkness, he positioned me where I had sat as a pool. As I felt the familiar changes into a statue, I noticed my hardening body was stretching out from my feet, forming some sort of basin below me.
“Keep your mouth open,” Roman instructed.
Roman, I feel kind of like I'm hollowing out, but...what's going on there at the bottom of me?
His voice took on a mischievous tone. “Just you wait.” I shuddered happily and grew still, reveling in the sensations.
Roman picked up part of me, and I realized – I had a plug.
He elongated my cord until he was able to plug me into the outside socket. I watched in curious silence as he stood before me, studying me proudly. Then he literally dove into the basin, becoming water, and I sprung to life.
“Yes, Corrie, I'm most happy to be your water,” Roman's voice echoed hollowly through me as he was forced upwards by whatever pump mechanism he had given me. He then erupted through my mouth as a wave of cool water, splashing dramatically downward and meeting the rest of himself in the basin below.
My God, Roman! What does that feel like?
Going through my beautiful fountain-wife? Take a guess!
And I had to admit, feeling him coursing through me was just as good.
Roman, it's dark. We should go in. I still have stuff I want to be inside.
Wait. Sadly, I felt Roman's presence leave my bronze body. It drew up into a wall of water which became human. “What else needs to be outside?” He glanced at my list. “A gun? That's funny! Your dad wanted that too.” I shrank and fell with a metal clank to the floor.
“You're a gun. Made of bronze, still. I like bronze.”
I felt so...compact, I guess was the word again? Please, please use me, Roman!
He picked up a pebble and changed it into a bullet that would be compatible with me. “Funny, I never used a gun. I had to learn how so I could change your father. He had me use him for target practice.” He paused as he inserted the bullet into me and snapped me shut. “Well, that came out all wrong. He wasn't the target. He was the gun I used to hit targets? Oh, whatever. You ready, you cute little firearm?”
He held me up. “You're really shivering! I feel you! And believe me, you're right to be excited. This is going to be explosive, no pun intended.”
The build-up was almost like slow motion. A pressure I've never felt before welled up inside my cold metal interior, and I was helpless to react to it in anyway. And then I expelled the bullet, and was in my own private ecstasy for several minutes. Roman allowed me it, stroking me all the while.
“Become a house!”
For whatever reason, the sensations of transforming into a building gave me a case of the giggles. It truly did tickle, but just the feeling of growing into a giant rectangle with corners was...just weird. I was hollowing out, and I swear, Roman was creating rooms and walls inside me even though I wasn't fully stone yet.
“There's your staircase!” he cried triumphantly, and I felt a surge. Part of me, inside, was now stairs, snaking up to my second level.
My walls were no longer flesh or muscle. They were solidifying into stone and wood, and I felt as if I were acquiring a shell. I wanted to scream out my usual, “I'm getting so large,” but I was reveling too much in the changes to exclaim a word.
Roman was pacing around my hardening foundation, rubbing at me and murmuring his approval. “I still got it in me after all these years,” I heard him mutter. I wondered how many people he'd turned into houses before. I'm sure he'd been one himself. He'd been everything.
I grew a chimney, and my windows were 'in'.
“And now, you have a roof over your head!” Roman said. “Except you ARE the roof.”
Ah, Roman, with his funny transformation jokes...
“Corrie, you can talk,” he said after a short silence.
“Am I done?” I ventured awkwardly. I felt so tall; my roof was surrounded by the trees...
“Your construction is complete. You are one fine house, and I'd like to be the first to cross your threshold!” He gripped my doorknob, and as he walked on my tiled floor, his footsteps brought back my giggles. They echoed around my insides.
“A giggling house. Just what I wanted,” Roman commented, and he walked up my stairs. He reached the second level, purposely stomping on my floor. He opened and closed my windows and doors. I grew silent again, except for the occasional giggles. I felt so peaceful as a house, and I didn't want to talk. I wanted to be lived in.
“Roman, can you live in me?” I finally asked him.
“Hmm, I shouldn't leave you like this too long.” He lay down on my floor and threaded his hands through my carpeted surface.
“Why not?” I lamented. “I am a house, after all.”
“No, you're a girl who needs to start college tomorrow.”
“Oh, Roman...please?”
Roman made his way downstairs and out the door, and I began to cave into myself, creaking and groaning until I was sadly human. Dejected, I walked into our own house.
“Corrie, here. You need to be some more inanimate stuff. It'll make you feel better, and that's pretty much what you have left on the list anyway. Now, first a quick rest on you,” Roman snapped his fingers for effect, and I was thickening into a couch. He made himself comfortable on my cushions, and I thought back to the very first time he'd transformed for me. He'd been a chair, and it had seemed so outlandish then. Now I was pretty much the same thing, and he was lounging on me. “You're always so comfortable to rest on, no matter what you are,” he chuckled, fluffing my cushion.
“Now,” he stood up and walked to an empty space next to the wall. “I do want to get you your own desk to work at, but in the meantime, let's make you one like you wanted.”
Couch-me grew into desk-me. I liked hardening into objects, in this case, wood. The short legs I had had as a couch grew tall and thin, and I flattened on top as one of my sides sprouted drawers. “Hmm. Interesting,” I said.
“Actually, I can use you for a minute.” Roman pulled a small radio from a side table drawer. Sometimes he'd listen to it with headphones if I didn't want to listen as well. He placed it on my surface and started tinkering with it. “Headphones are broken,” he said in annoyance.
“I'll be headphones for you. Whenever you want.”
“Corrie, thanks, but I can just change them into working ones, or I can turn something else into new ones.”
I wanted to stamp my foot down. I tried, but then remembered rather quickly that desks can't. “Make me into headphones. Now,” I demanded.
Roman rose, amused. “You little spitfire...desk.” I shrank down, thinned out into almost nothing, but the ear bud parts of me had been my hands. So when Roman plugged my cord into the radio and he donned me, it was if I were hugging my arms around his head. Turning the radio on sent electricity through me, and that, as I've pointed out many times before, leaves the transformed person in a state beyond bliss. I don't even know what he was listening to – some piano concerto, it seemed. The music plus the current running through me left me quite unable to concentrate.
Roman pulled my cord from the radio, turned it into a plug, and plugged me into the wall. I wasn't sure why (except that I continued to feel amazing) until I felt the rest of me change into a flat, rectangular...boxy thing?
He flipped me open. “Let's surf the web on you, Corrie the laptop!”
My voice came out of the speaker. “That's where I got some of my ideas. There are some great authors and artists on there that draw and write about transformations and stuff and, oh boy... They could give you ideas, Roman!”
“You don't think I've seen them?” he replied, typing on my keyboard. I felt a jolt, and somehow knew that Google had popped up on my screen.
“You should go around like a fairy godmother and grant them transformation wishes,” I said. I actually meant it. I wished I could share my fortune with others who would appreciate it.
“I've considered it. Maybe one day you'll help.”
“Wow. You have a fast internet connection!” he exclaimed, impressed. His searching left a fluttery feeling in my machinery. I wouldn't call it ticklish, but more like...butterflies in my...workings.
“What are you looking for on me?” I asked.
“You wrote that you want to be a lava lamp. I'm trying to find the coolest one to turn you into. I think I found one. You ready?”
“Yup. Wanna be it with me?”
“I'll be the lava part, how's that?”
“Very cool.”
I was hollow, but full of water and...Roman. The electricity flowed through me, and I felt Roman floating and bubbling lazily inside of me. I could feel the slightest of pressure when he collided with my sides.
“Good?” the colorful Roman-goo asked.
Mmm... I answered. Definitely.
“That'll be nice. A wall decal. Okay, let's pose you first.” Roman held up my arm in an evocative pose, and stretched one of my legs behind me. “Now stay like that. You'll love this. A flattening!”
The wind was knocked out of me as I thinned and crumpled to the floor. I was a transparent, sticky film, and Roman carefully picked me up and smoothed me against the wall. “Oh, Corrie, you came out beautifully. I wish I had a picture of you...would you let me?”
How about you just do your mirror trick?
Roman complied, becoming a mirror and enlarging enough so I could see all of me.
He had embellished me somewhat; I wore a long, flowing gown, and there were flowers surrounding my image. Some were threaded through my fingers and toes, others were in my hair, which grew long and ended in flowers itself. I looked like a Roman goddess.
I'm beautiful, Roman. Thank you.
“I knew I should have gone to art school,” the mirror said. “You are truly a work of art. And most of that's not my doing.”
The part of turning me into a sticker certainly is. Now I want to be paint.
“Yes, I meant to ask. Do you want to be a layer of paint on the wall, or paint for me to paint with?”
Hmm...both sounded promising, but I had pictured myself bobbing around in a paint can, waiting to be brushed onto a wall...
“Got you. I hear you.” He went to the kitchen and gathered up a large stew pot, which he placed below me. “I'm turning you only into paint. Not a can of paint. Just the paint, so you can focus on the one experience.”
My flat body flowed into the pot, gaining some substance as I became a thick liquid. What color am I? I queried as my I filled up the pot.
“I think blue would look nice in this room, don't you?”
Um, no.
“Well, when you turn back, there won't be any blue left, so it doesn't matter.” He picked up a pencil, turned it into a paintbrush, and plunged it into me.
Oh, ooo...I felt a small part of myself come away, adhering to the brush. Then Roman was sweeping me across the wall, and I was so thin! At the same time, I was encompassing more and more surface area as he swiped me back and forth.
He dipped back into me, placing more of me on the wall, and the odd two-places at once feeling came back. I was mostly ensconced in the pot, but I could feel me on the wall too, and I had a view from both angles, as if I had more than one set of eyes.
This is weird, I commented.
Roman swirled the brush around in me, stirring me up. “Got to keep you mixed,” he quipped.
I heartily agreed. Being mixed was...very...necessary. Not to mention erotic.
“Do you want me to get you completely over the wall? You want to be used up?”
I did want to see what it felt like to dry, so I agreed, and Roman set to his task. When finished, I still felt a slight bit of me adhering to the walls of the pot, but basically I was the wall's new paint job, and I was just starting to dry. To speed me up, Roman turned into a very big fan. He did look funny that way, retaining his features in the middle of his blades, but he did the job. I was dried, and it kind of felt like my face did when I was in the sun with no sunblock – a cracking, parched sensation, only it was over all of me.
Roman grew human. “You know, Corrie, your changes really do give me ideas. I mean, I'm no interior decorator, but a color, even if it's not blue, might really wake up the room...”
And I am the clay that you use for those ideas...
I fell from the wall to the floor, a mound of clay.
“Oh, I forgot I wanted that.”
Roman gathered me up and played with me. Yes, that was what I wanted. He kneaded me between his hands, pushing me and pulling me into different shapes. He rolled me into a ball, then stretched me into a long string. “I'd let you dry like this too, but it's so late, and I'd have to be a fan again.”
“I wish I had a picture of you like that. Actually, I do want to be a camera still,” I said with my clay mouth.
Snickering, Roman wiped it away. “No lips for you, my love!”
Roman! Give me back my face!
“Never!” He sculpted me into a toy car, then hardened me into plastic. The next thing I knew, I was rolling across the room.
“You might enjoy me more if you're little Roman again,” I suggested.
Roman turned into a four-year-old, played with me a few minutes, then grew restless. “Can I make you a camera?” asked the little boy.
“Go for it,” I said, and hardened further into a box shape.
The four-year-old picked me up and began snapping shots of whatever tickled his fancy. His pressing my button tickled me, to be sure. He then connected me to our computer and uploaded my pictures on it. We watched the pictures on the computer screen. “You take nice photos,” the four-year-old commented, petting my lense and almost dropping me on the floor.
“Roman, careful! You'll break me,” I scolded.
“Sorry,” he whined, and I realized that perhaps the four-year-old body was starting to affect him.
“Turn back to yourself,” I demanded.
“Fine.” He did. I remained beside the computer as a camera. I had to admit, though, I did result in some fine photography. Even if it was just pictures of our house.
I flattened and grew into a bigger rectangle, now a 50-inch television set. “I remember you turned that bully into one when you were a kid,” I said from my stand.
Roman chuckled, settling back into a chair and clicking me on with my remote. “Yes. Then I turned myself into one and left myself on for five hours straight until my mom turned me off. She said I was a waste of electricity and warned me that I better stop becoming appliances.”
He watched the news on me, yawning. When it concluded, he drew out the list. “Now what's left that we can do? It's so late... Corrie, I'd love to make you a model kit or a lego model kit, and I will, but you really have to get to bed tonight. After all, you're starting college tomorrow. That's the whole point of all this.”
“But I'd enjoy having you put me together.”
“I would too. And we will. How about this weekend? I'll make you the most expensive model kit money can't buy,” he chuckled, “and I'll build you. For hours. Then I'll pull you apart and make you legos.”
“It's a deal.”
“So...last thing.”
I smiled.
“A bed, huh? That is a fun one, I'll admit.”
“You get to sleep on me. For the night.”
We entered the bedroom, and I positioned myself in the middle of the floor. “Make me silky,” I requested as I changed. Roman did this last metamorphosis of the day slowly but deliberately. He pushed and pulled on my changing form, eliciting, well, much enjoyment from his subject. I could feel a headboard sprouting from where my shoulders once were “to make you complete”, as Roman said. He coaxed me into a queen-sized mattress and box spring, all covered with pure silk.
I grunted as he finished me. He then flopped into my middle, which of course, made me start giggling again. As if that wasn't enough, he began tickling me in earnest.
I shook and shuddered, but was powerless to fight him. “Roman! Roman! Stop it!” I was laughing so hard, my springs hurt.
“Why? It doesn't feel amazing?” He was out of breath as well.
“It's...it's almost too amazing!”
He leaned down and kissed my face, which was right where a pillow should have been. “I love sculpting you, and changing you, and giving you such pleasure,” he murmured, his hands stroking my silky surface. “I will enjoy sleeping on you as well.”
“Why didn't you make me a king size?” I made a fake frown, which sent him into titters.
“My bed is pouting!” he announced, delivering two light punches into my softness. Of course they were delivered in the spot that was very pleasant, and then I was slowly expanding. “My dear, you are officially a king size!” he proclaimed.
I liked the feeling of being a bed and growing. I wanted more.
“Bigger?” I asked in a weak voice, and by the time we were done, I was room-sized. Roman had to turn the rest of the furniture into miniatures so he could make room for my enormousness.
He got ready to go to sleep and lay down on me, drawing a blanket over himself. “You feel nice under me,” he commented.
“You feel nice on top of me,” I responded.
“Did you have a wonderful day?” he asked.
“Amazing. And believe me, that list was just the beginning, Roman.”
“You think I don't know that? You're Robert's daughter. You'll think of ten new transformations to try each hour you're alive!”
I laughed, missing my father terribly. What would he have thought of me right now, in the form of the hugest bed...well, possibly ever?
He probably would have laughed and become the hugest pillow ever, I realized with a laugh.
“Roman, you think Sean is okay? You haven't said anything about him.”
“I know he's okay. I think he's never been happier, and he was born to be a dolphin.”
“It's nice that you did that for him.”
He kissed me again. “It's nice I can do this for you, too.” He studied me a moment. “You know, you need a better blanket than this old cotton number. You need one that sets off your size and beauty. Would you please allow me to be one? I'd much rather sleep on you as your blanket tonight.”
“So what's the point of me being a bed?” But I could see how much he wanted this, and, as much as I liked him sleeping on me in human form, I was sure this would be just as nice – perhaps better.
“Fine. If it'll make you happy.”
“It would.” He was already transforming as he continued. “I'm bone-weary tired from what I did today, despite the breaks.” He was growing flatter as he spoke, and his body was becoming a filmy white. “I know what I do seems effortless, but, believe me, it requires more energy than you can imagine–” He made a slight grunt as his head dissolved into material, leaving his features floating in his silky flatness. “I just really hope this day was memorable for you, and that you do very well in school.” He moaned, his sides spilling over my own, covering me in a light, yet stimulating perfection.
“Are you finished?” I asked.
He emitted one more little “Aah...”, then shifted slightly on me. “Yup, I'm one-hundred percent blanket, custom-made for you.”
His movement sent shivers through me. “Do that again,” I murmured, and he did, his silk rubbing against my own.
“Sleep now. You'll never get better 'bed-rest' than when you're an actual bed.”
“And a husband/blanket covering me makes it twice as comfy. Mmm.”
Roman stretched and tightened his blanket-body across me. He caressed my mattress with his folds, and I was in heaven yet again.
Today had been a day I would never forget.
