*knock-knock-knock-knock-knock-knock-knock*
John answered the door.
"Hey," Cassie said with a smile.
"Hi," John replied to his former pin-up. John felt a bit guilty that his first thought about Cassie went immediately to objectification, but it had only been a few days since she had been acting as one of his bed sheets. In fact, the last time he saw her she was still rather depth-challenged. She had popped back to normal while he was away and left him without even leaving him a note. He had been fretting for the past few days that he had somehow misinterpreted what she wanted, despite the fact that they had worked out a rudimentary 'yes or no' communication system using the barely audible mumbles that Cassie was capable of.
"Soooooooo..." Cassie said her second word to John as she looked down and to the side.
Oh god, John thought as a maelstrom of negativity began to swirl in his head, I knew that was too weird. Now things are going to be awkward between us and she's probably mad that that stuff we did made her restoration take an entire week and she'll never want to see me again and we'll never be together I did all that crazy kinky shit with her like when I took her face and use it like a tissue on my-
"Was that a crazy first date or what?!" she exclaimed with a goofy, over-the-top Texan accent as she swung her arm to the side like she was in a hoedown. She stared John for a couple of seconds, maintaing a wide open mouth grin.
John silently stared in astonishment.
Cassie leaned in closer as she widened her smile.
John suddenly burst out laughing, with Cassie soon joining in with her own giggling.
John, still trying to catch his breath, said, "First thing you say to me after all that shit, is that? Bwaahahaha!"
"Well," Cassie replied innocently, "We did get to know each other pretty well for that week. And by know, I mean like the biblical know. Like, how Adam knew Eve."
"Yeah, haha, I guess we are pretty knowledgeable about each other now."
"Like how I got to know you really well after you took my face and starting rubbing it on-"
"Who's at the door sweetie?" a voice called from the house.
"Uh, just an old friend Mom," John called back as Cassie covered her smile with her fist.
"Well, why don't you invite them in?" the older woman called back.
John looked back at Cassie for a brief moment, before turning back. "Actually," John smoothly stated, "I think we're going to go out." John once again looked back at Cassie with a smooth smile.
"Oh ho ho, when did you become such a smooth operator," said Cassie, returning the smile.
John's mom's voice rang back, "OK handsome, try to be back before 10 to get your bedtime snuggles!"
Cassie gave a wide grin.
"...Thanks mom."

"So, I guess I know why you missed so many days of classes now."
"Yup. My, uh, condition got me stuck a lot," Cassie replied from across the table. They had just gone out to a sparsely populated burger joint, neither being up for a big formal date. "My mom told all the teachers about it, so I didn't get in trouble. They never told anyone because she made them sign confidentiality thingies and my mom's a lawyer."
"Got any interesting stories?" John asked.
Cassie put a finger on her mouth in thought. "Hmmm... Oh, remember when we did a production of Cabaret senior year and I went missing the Wednesday before the opening weekend?"
"Oh, I remember that. That one was pretty fun to work on. That crazy old Ms. Garfunkle said that you had to quit last minute and we had to quickly teach someone else your part. Ah man, you were probably laying around at home when this happened, but when we were making finishing touches on the set Ms. Garfunkle brought in a poster that she got from Fathead of some girl who looked just like you, but with black hair. Everyone noticed, so we called it Cassie 2.0 and talked to it like it was you. I remember it really well because I was the one who hung it up during the cabaret parts and then rolled it back up during the other scenes. God, what made me remember that?"
Cassie sat staring at John from across the table, her head resting on her fist and her mouth in a bemused half smile.
"I remember talking to it like it was actually you. It probably sounds dumb, but it felt kinda nice to have someone to talk to about my problems"
Cassie held her pose.
"I still remember the expression on its face-"
"Did it look like this?" interrupted Cassie. She turned her back to John and looked over her shoulder. She made an "O" shape with her mouth and raised her eyebrows slightly, as though she was in shock.
"Oh wow! Did you see it? That's actually almost exactly-" John froze as the realization hit him.
Cassie once again rested her cheek against her fist as she gave John another knowing grin.
"Oooooooohhhh. So, you were-"
"Mmm-hmm," Cassie gave a brief nod.
"So, why were you like that then?"
"Well, Ms. Garfunkle sent me to get a prop from that huge prop closet out in the back. The one I wanted was right in the middle of this huge stack. I consider myself a Jenga master, so I just yanked what I needed right out of the pile. It was stable for a second so I turned around, then a huge box crashed down on top of me. I had just enough time to turn my head and make that face before it fell right on me. I was under the box until the next day when Garfy found me. Well, the box that she wanted me to get was a box of posters, and they had all been ruined by the big box smashing them. Garfy was pretty mad because those posters were her own personal collection. So, since she wanted to punish me, needed a replacement for whichever poster she had in mind from that pile, and because she knew I loved being on stage, she made me a poster."
"But your hair wasn't black then, and I don't remember you ever wearing that black dress."
"I'm getting to that. So, she rolls me up and takes me to her office. At this point I didn't know what she was planning but was still pissed that I would miss a rehearsal before the opening. Anyway, she unrolls me onto this big piece of construction paper and is all like, 'the show must go on, dear,' and starts gluing me to the paper! At this point I'm frantically protesting trying to get her to stop, but you know how close you have to be to hear me when I'm all squished."
"Oh my god, no wonder you suddenly started hating her," John said, aghast at what he was hearing.
"Oh, it gets worse. Once I was glued on there she rolled me up and took me home. She takes me inside, and her stupid little brats are there. She asks if they want to help her with the play, they say yes of course, and she hands each one a marker and tells them to give me black hair and a black dress!"
"Seriously!?"
"Super seriously. At that point I just sort of resigned myself to my fate. The kids spent all night coloring on me. Shit took like a 4 hour long shower to get out. Anyway, Garfy rolled over me with her rolling pin that night to make sure I didn't pop back to normal and beat her ass. Then, next day, to really make sure I can't just pop back, she put me through the school's fucking laminator!"
"Holy shit."
"Holy shit is right. It was like constantly having every part of my body getting pushed into at the same time. It was freaking hot in there too, I thought I was gonna melt."
"That really makes me mad. If I ever see Ms. Garfunkle again-"
"Cool down tiger, my mom sued the shit out of her afterwards," Cassie said as her mood from telling the story suddenly lightened. "So yeah, that's pretty much it. After that I was handed over to you guys. I guess it's kind of a good thing that she made me so no one knew who I was, because that would have been really embarrassing. Being part of the play wasn't really that bad either, I mean, I had the easiest part. The thing that I always hated was when you stored me after the shows."
John felt a sudden twang of guilt. "Aw, I'm sorry Cassie."
"Hey, no need to get all apologetic, I was just another prop at the time." Cassie shot John a reassuring smile. "Besides, it was pretty cute when you talked to me when you thought no one was around."
"You know," John started, hoping to catch Cassie before she started remembering some of the embarrassing things he said to the sexy pin-up that he had developed a crush on, "I remember putting you in storage myself. Did Garfy change you back."
"Nope. She was nutso from going through some crazy divorce at the time or something. She was planning on keeping me as a prop forever. My mom had been running around the school trying to find me, and when Emmy got me out to include me in a group photo as a joke, my mom recognized me. She's good like that, she can spot me out even if my face is completely covered up by something."
"Wow," marveled John, "I had no idea you went through such crazy shit. You could have been in storage to this day!"
"Yep, if it wasn't for Emmy I'd still be a laminated poster. Even if I had been in there for that long and someone got me out today, it would take, like, two years for me to get back to normal."
"Woah."
"Yeah, but that was pretty much the spookiest one. Most of them weren't so bad. Like the time my friends snuck me into the big football game..."
